Why is the concept of loving God considered the greatest commandment?

In Mark 12:30, Jesus states, 'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.' This commandment is central to the Christian faith as it summarizes all that God requires of us. It embodies the entire law and the prophets, indicating that love for God is the foundation upon which all other obedience rests.
