Why is the exaltation of Christ important for understanding His birth?

The importance of Christ's exaltation cannot be overlooked when discussing His birth. Philippians 2:9-11 notes that because of His obedience to death, God highly exalted Him. This exaltation establishes Jesus as Lord, not just a baby in a manger.
