Why is understanding our brokenness important in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Recognizing our brokenness reveals our need for Christ's healing and redemption.

The acknowledgment of our brokenness is foundational in Christian theology, specifically regarding one's understanding of sin and the human condition. In Luke 4:18, Jesus declares that He has come to heal the brokenhearted. This does not refer merely to those who experience emotional heartache but speaks to a deeper spiritual reality: our hearts are fundamentally flawed and incapable of righteousness. When we understand that our hearts are no good (Jeremiah 17:9), we become aware of our need for a savior who can give us a new heart, as stated in Ezekiel 36:26. This awareness leads us to embrace the grace offered through faith in Christ.
