Why should Christians reject mixing law and grace?

Answered in 1 source

Mixing law and grace undermines the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice and can lead believers back into spiritual bondage.

Christians should reject mixing law and grace because it compromises the core of the gospel and the sufficiency of Christ's atonement. As indicated in Galatians 5:1, being entangled again with the yoke of bondage through legalism detracts from the freedom found in Christ. This mixing implies that Christ's sacrifice is not enough and that the believer must add their own works to secure salvation. It is a serious error to think that one’s own righteousness can appease God's wrath; only Christ's perfect righteousness is adequate. Thus, mixing law and grace nullifies the grace of God and insults the sacrifice of Christ.
