Why should sermons focus on Jesus Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Sermons should focus on Jesus Christ because He is the central message of the Gospel and the source of life for believers.

Jesus Christ Himself is the only message of gospel preaching, as highlighted in 2 Corinthians 4:5. Paul makes it clear that the focus of preaching should not be on ourselves but on Christ as our Lord. Charles Spurgeon aptly stated that a sermon devoid of Christ is a mistake in its conception. The gospel without Christ is lifeless and devoid of power. A sermon saturated with the glory of Christ is transformative, as it activates faith and brings hope to the listeners. In essence, there is no other message that can quicken the heart and reveal the glory of God besides Jesus Christ Himself.
