Big question, does God make people
sick? Because the short answer might
make you angry. Let's let the Bible speak. Verse number one, Exodus four,
the Lord said to him, who has made man's mouth? Or who makes
him mute or deaf or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? I'm not sure how you could argue
that verse away. It's very clear to me. And yet
there are many more verses that make it clear God actually makes
people sick. Verse number two. Isaiah 45,
the one forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being
and creating calamity. I am the Lord who does all these. And finally, John chapter nine,
his disciples asked Jesus, Rabbi, who sinned, this sick man or
his parents, that he would be born blind? Jesus answered, it
was neither that this man sinned nor his parents, but it was so
that the works of God might be displayed in him. Does God cause
people to be sick? It is not a sin for Him to do
so, and He has great purposes in it, to cause us to look to
Him for healing and hope and encouragement and comfort, so
that we will trust Him more. This is what the Prince of Preachers
said, I venture to say that the greatest earthly blessing that
God can give to any of us is health, with the exception of
sickness. Sickness has frequently been
of more use to the saints of God than health has. Does God
make people sick? Yes, for our good, and the implications
to this are many. God is in control of everything
and your health is no exception. Let that comfort you. God may
use sickness in a believer to draw them closer to himself. Don't waste your sickness. Sickness
should cause believers to yearn for the day when they will have
glorified bodies and sickness will be no more. Number four,
while the devil can make people sick, Even the devil is under
God's sovereign reign and he can only make people sick whom
God allows. Five, God is the good physician
who can make sick and heal sick people. And finally, our good
physician never administers a cup of poison to his children. In
other words, He won't make you more sick than what He desires
to use for His noble purposes. Big question. Does God make people
sick? Short answer, God controls the
health of every person and He uses sickness for His own purposes
and your good, whether it be the discipline of believers,
the punishment of unbelievers, or to show His power in healing. Oh, imagine my surprise that
