How can orthodoxy be cold and dead despite being true?

Answered in 1 source

Orthodoxy can be cold and dead if not believed, rendering doctrinal truths meaningless to the individual.

Orthodoxy, defined as a collection of true doctrinal propositions, is inherently neither alive nor dead; however, its value is diminished if not believed. A person who can recite doctrines without internal conviction demonstrates that their spiritual condition may be 'dead.' Such individuals may find themselves merely passing an exam of knowledge without true faith, which is vital for experiencing the full essence of the Gospel. Spiritual life and engagement are manifested through belief, which in turn produces love and other fruits of the Spirit.
