How do we know that God's discipline is a sign of His love?
Answered in 1 source
God's discipline, as portrayed in Scripture, is evidence of His love, as He treats believers as His children.
The Bible clearly communicates that God's discipline is an expression of His love for His children. In Hebrews 12:6, it states, 'For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and chastises every son whom He receives.' This metaphor is powerful; just as earthly fathers discipline their children to correct and instruct them, so does God with His people. The intent of God's chastening is not for destruction but for the believer's growth and ultimate good. Moreover, believers can take comfort in the truth that God does not afflict willingly or grieve the children of men (Lamentations 3:33) but does so to reclaim and purify them. Therefore, when believers endure hardships, they can view these experiences through the lens of divine love rather than abandonment.
