How do we know progressive sanctification is true?

Answered in 3 sources

Progressive sanctification is often misunderstood; true sanctification begins with regeneration and involves a growth that respects the reality of the old and new natures within a believer.

Many within evangelical circles misunderstand the concept of progressive sanctification, perceiving it as a transformation of the old nature into something holy. However, Scripture asserts that the old nature, which is at enmity with God, cannot be transformed. True sanctification is distinct and begins with the new birth, where one becomes a partaker of the divine nature. Progressive sanctification acknowledges the reality of both the old nature, which remains prone to sin, and the new nature, which is birthed by God's grace. Hence, growth occurs not through the old nature becoming better, but through the development of the new nature in knowledge and faith.
