How do we know the gospel is sufficient?

Answered in 2 sources

The gospel is sufficient as it addresses the deepest needs of humanity while glorifying God’s perfection.

The sufficiency of the gospel is affirmed by the fact that it meets every essential need of humanity while fully glorifying God. The gospel is described as a wise and gracious dispensation, meaning it is divinely tailored to our brokenness and need for redemption. It offers relief to the miserable and assures them of hope, demonstrating God's love and mercy. Furthermore, 2 Timothy 1:13 highlights the importance of holding firm to sound words, as they remind believers of the simplicity and sufficiency of the gospel message.

When the gospel is maintained without corruption, it not only shows the nature of sin and the need for salvation but also facilitates genuine obedience to God. It empowers the weak, opens the eyes of the blind, and strengthens the heart of the sinner. In this light, the gospel's sufficiency can be seen; it removes pretense of human effort in attaining righteousness, resting fully on Christ’s redemptive work. Thus, its effect is transformative, leading to both assurance of salvation and a life marked by obedience to God.
