What does the Bible say about the two ways to approach God?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches there are two mountains to approach God: one through the law and works, and the other through grace and faith in Christ.

As demonstrated in Hebrews 12:18-24, believers are cautioned against approaching God through Mount Sinai, which represents the law and its demands, leading to condemnation. Conversely, Mount Zion symbolizes grace and acceptance found in Christ's finished work. Whichever way we attempt to come to God impacts how we perceive His glory. Attempting to stand on our own works results in facing Him as a consuming fire, while relying upon Christ reveals His grace and loving acceptance. This duality emphasizes the importance of aligning our approach toward God with what Christ has accomplished rather than our performance.
