Why is rejecting the doctrine of necessary consequence a serious issue?

Answered in 1 source

Rejecting necessary consequence undermines the authority of Scripture and invites human error into doctrine.

The doctrine of necessary consequence is critically important as it maintains that what is taught in Scripture must be adhered to without addition or omission. By allowing human reasoning to supplement Scripture, many lose the clarity of biblical truth and fall into the realm of personal opinion, leading to varied interpretations and practices that contradict the explicit commands of God. The Westminster Confession reinforces this by stating that the whole counsel of God can be either expressly found in Scripture or deduced through necessary consequence, thus preserving the integrity of God's revelation. Hence, the rejection of this doctrine not only challenges the foundation of Reformed theology but also opens the door for doctrinal heresies.
