Why is spiritual emptiness necessary for salvation?

The story of the widow in 2 Kings 4 illustrates the necessity of recognizing our emptiness before God. The Lord often brings us to a place of desperation where we acknowledge our utter helplessness. When we see our weakness and bankruptcy, we are positioned to receive Christ fully, thereby opening our hearts to the work of the Holy Spirit. This readiness to be filled, depicted by the collection of empty vessels, mirrors our own spiritual journey in recognizing Christ as the only sufficiency for salvation.
