Matthew
What does the Bible say about Jesus as God's servant?

The Bible describes Jesus as God's Servant in Isaiah 42, emphasizing His role to fulfill God's will and bring justice to the nations.

The Scriptures present Jesus as the 'Servant' of God, as seen in Isaiah 42. God refers to Jesus as 'my servant,' highlighting His unique and exalted role as the one chosen to accomplish God's purposes on Earth. Unlike other prophets and messengers, Jesus is given all authority and is tasked with the highest calling of serving God's glory. This Messianic role encapsulates the true essence of Jesus as both fully divine and fully human, entrusted with the mission of salvation and justice for both Jew and Gentile, therefore bringing God's light to the nations.

Isaiah 42:1-4, Matthew 12:14-21

How do we know that Jesus is the anointed one?

Jesus is identified as the anointed one in Scripture, particularly in Isaiah and affirmed by His own declarations in the Gospel.

The identification of Jesus as the anointed one, or 'Christ', is deeply rooted in biblical prophecy. In Isaiah 61, this anointing is prophesied, and Jesus Himself confirms this in the Gospels when He reads from this passage in the synagogue, declaring 'This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.' His anointing signifies that He is equipped by the Spirit of God to carry out His mission of redemption and salvation. The divine approval of Jesus is famously proclaimed by God, stating, 'This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased,' indicating that He is indeed the chosen One endowed with authority and purpose.

Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:21, Matthew 3:17

Why is the concept of Christ fulfilling Scriptures important for Christians?

Christ's fulfillment of Scriptures affirms His divine mission and God’s sovereignty in the salvation plan.

Understanding Christ's fulfillment of Scriptures is crucial for Christians as it reflects the divine orchestration of God's redemptive plan throughout history. Every event in Christ's life resonates with prophetic insights foretold in the Old Testament, validating His identity as the Messiah. For example, His humble life, miraculous deeds, and sacrificial death were all preordained in Scriptural texts, underscoring that God is sovereign over all events. Recognizing this fulfillment reassures believers of God's faithfulness and trustworthiness, deepening their faith and providing a framework for understanding God's unfolding grace through history.

life to bring, and lives that death may die. Crown Him the Lord of Heaven,
one with the Father known, one with the Spirit proven in Him
from yonder glorious throne. Thank you. Go with me to Matthew
12. Matthew chapter 12. Yesterday,
I was looking forward to bringing this message. I had a great time
with it in the study. Speaking with Brother Terrell,
Joe Terrell, and I told him yesterday after finishing the message,
I said, I wish it was tomorrow, right now. There's no promise
what will happen tomorrow, and this may fall flat. I may fall
flat, but I did have a good time with it yesterday, and I hope
not. I hope you'll rejoice over this. Matthew 12, re-verses 14 through
16 with me. Then the Pharisees went out.
and held a counsel against him, that they might destroy him.
But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from things. And great
multitudes followed him, and he healed them all, and charged
them, commanded them that they should not make him known. Now, these Pharisees, I have
to deal with them because they're here. They're there. The Lord
Jesus Christ had many run-ins with the Pharisees. They were
everywhere. Just as he said, there must be
heresies among you, according to God's purpose. The Pharisees
were the religious leaders of their day. They were the doctors.
They were the reverence. They were the religious leaders.
They were men who thought they were righteous. And people thought
they were righteous, didn't they? Everybody did. Highly esteemed
among men. What is that which is highly
esteemed among men to God? Abomination. They were highly
esteemed. They were thought to be righteous.
They thought they were. They were self-righteous. You
know, amazingly, those who do not think themselves righteous,
God does. Two men in the temple, and that's
not my story, but two men that came into the temple, a Pharisee
and a publican, who was righteous? Who did God say was righteous?
One just pleaded for mercy and God justified him. Righteous. One pleaded his own righteousness.
God damned him. Well, these Pharisees, they thought
they knew everything. They thought they knew everything
about God and about Christ. They didn't know either. They were standing in front of
the Christ and didn't recognize him. God, the scripture says, right
before this, the Lord rejoiced that God had hid these things
from the wise and the prudent. That is, those who thought they
were. They weren't wise. They weren't prudent. Had they
been, they would have known Christ. But those who thought they were
God hid these things from them, and still does, and revealed
himself, revealed these things unto babes, the meek, the lowly,
the hungry, the thirsty. And not those who are nothing,
nobodies from nowhere, not wise, mighty, or noble. Babes, these
things. And what a blessing that was,
is. Well, these fellows held a council.
That's what religious people like to do. The word synod means a council. Well, they held a council. They
got together and had their little meeting, had a big meeting. Wasn't
a little meeting, it was a big meeting. All their meetings are
big, important. Everybody comes. Big meeting,
everybody but God is there. Only one that matters. They got together and had a big
meeting at their religious synagogue to see what they were going to
do with this Jesus, who they called the Christ. Now, isn't
that ironic? Because God said that, didn't
He, over in Psalm 2. He said that the rulers imagine
a vain thing. He said they take counsel together
against the Lord and against His anointed. Say, we're going
to break their bands of thunder. We're going to cast away their
courage from him. What does God think about these counsel? What
does God do when they're holding a counsel? Laughs. They got together,
all these religious leaders, to decide what they were going
to do. And God's laughing. You're going to decide what you're
going to do with me. That's funny, isn't it? Isn't
that funny? what they're going to let him
do. You know, there was a council held long before the world began. There were three persons involved. Nobody else. There were no angels,
no human beings, three persons of the Godhead, Father, Son,
Holy Spirit. They held a council, a meeting. It was a big meeting. And they
entered into covenant together. And they decided what they were
going to do with us. And God says in Isaiah 45, my
counsel shall stand. I will do all my good pleasure. And it was God, Juanita, it was
God's good pleasure for these evil men to hold counsel. with
wicked hands, and take and crucify the Lord of glory. But they did
what God determined in that council of eternity for them to do. They
didn't decide anything. God had already determined it. That's the God of the Bible.
That's my God. It's not their God out there,
because their God's not like ours. Their God's not God at
all. But ours is, isn't it? My God
is God. Daniel's God is God, and so is
Paul's. So is Henry's. So is John's. He's God, isn't he? That's your
God? Oh, I'm on my favorite subject
now. Well, they held a council, but one council sustained, and
it says he withdrew himself. He withdrew himself from fence.
God is not in this mess called modern religion. Every day, every
day I get junk mail, religious spam, actual mail in the mail. And if I were to answer all that,
every time I get this stuff, it's all about some big meeting
I'm going to have, some big singing, some big meeting where all these
famous And one place. Makes no bones about this is
the largest church in North America. They make that's how they advertise.
And I know immediately that's not
God's church. And the fact that it's so big and the fact that
they advertise it as such. Make broad their philosophy.
But I get this stuff all the time. Inviting me. Well I'm not going to that and
I know for a fact God's not in that. He's far from that, far
removed from that. And I want to write every one
of them and say, get me off your mailing list. But I'd be, that's
all I'd be doing. They're everywhere. Well, he
withdrew from fence. He withdrew from this big council.
He was not in it. Not a part of it. They were against
him. They were against him. They were not for him. It was
not for him. It was not for the glory of God. It was against
his glory. It was for their glory. Isn't that the way it goes? Well, and it says a great multitude
followed him. Now, God has a people as the
sands of the sea, the stars of the sky. a great multitude. Yes, he does. God has a people
that no man can number. That's how many there are. You
and I can't number a handful of sand. Can't do it. God says there's a sand of the
sea. That's a sacred throng. That's
a throng of people, a vast multitude, like wheat. that no man can number, but God
has. He has them all numbered. He
has their hairs numbered. A vast throng of people. And
they followed him. God does have a multitude. At
any given time, though, in time, there are generally few. Now,
these people weren't all saved. We see that in the end, don't
we? 3,000 Pentecost and 5,000 later
on. But 4,000. But anyway, he healed
these people. Here's the point. All who follow
him, all who truly follow Christ, all who truly go after him, all
who leave modern religion to go to him without the camp, bearing
his reproach, he'll heal them all. All of everybody that truly
seeks Christ and follows him. Everybody that comes to Christ,
he heals them all. Anybody and everybody, whosoever
believe it, whoever believe that he's the Christ and follows him,
not man, him, he'll heal them. Of this horrible disease called
sin, someday we'll totally remove it from them and them from it.
Well, he charged these people, in verse 16, he charged them
that they should not make him known. He charged them, commanded
them that they should not go around telling everybody this
is the Christ. Now, why would he tell them that? Why did he tell them to keep
it silent, who he was? Why? Not to publish his name.
Why did he tell them that? Now he tells us to go out, doesn't
he? Tell every man that asks you, doesn't he? Well, there
will be a time for that, as it is now. But at this moment in
time, when Christ was here, there's a reason for this. There's a
reason he said, don't go out and publish this. Don't stand
in the streets and cry out and preach on the street corner.
Don't do it. He didn't do it. Why? Because everything he was
doing, number one, was fulfilling scripture. Every jot and tittle
of scripture must be fulfilled. Everything concerning the Christ
must be fulfilled. He has to fit the character described
in scripture. And it is written that the scriptures
might be fulfilled, verse 17, that it might be fulfilled which
was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, and it went on down in verse
In verse 19, we read it, Isaiah 42. It says, He shall not cry,
strive, nor cry, nor neither shall any man hear his voice
in the streets. So this is to fulfill the scripture
that we read a moment ago. And we quoted, you know, we quoted
to you also how that God had hid these things from the wise
and prudent. Where is that found? That's in
Isaiah also, Isaiah 6, Isaiah 29. But God has his elect, to whom he reveals the truth
to. The truth is Christ. God has his people, whom he reveals
the true God and the true Christ. That's what Christ said is salvation,
and this is eternal life, that they might know thee, the only
true God, and Jesus Christ whom he has
sent. And God reveals to all his elect
in time who Christ is. There doesn't have to be a big
advertising scheme. Tricks and gimmicks, programs
and bribery and trickery and man-made methods and gimmicks
and tactics. And we've got to get it known.
We've got to get it out. How are they going to know? How are
they going to know? God, who made the air, needs
man. God, who made man's mouth, needs
man. God, who spoke. God, whom the
heavens Can I contain these men to get the word out? He that
sits in the heavens laughs. He said, I will say to the north
wind, blow, O north wind, bring my children. Who's the wind?
Who's the wind, John? Who's the scripture says the
wind that bloweth where it listeth, that calleth his sons and daughters
from the north, south, east, and the west? Huh? Who's the
wind? That's who's doing the work of
God. Don't need airwaves. What they do, you know, according
to Martin, man, what did they do for television? What did they
do for radio? Had to get the word out. Paul said 2,000 years ago,
have they not all heard? How, Paul? Are you on the radio?
What? Radio? What's that? How are they
going to get the word out, Samuel? God's Holy Spirit. Right, son? We've been on the
radio now about... How long have we been on the
radio? A long time. Seven or eight years or more,
I guess. Very little response, is it? Well... And God's been bringing people
in, though, all the time. Not from the radio. I wish he
would. That's why we're on it. If anything,
it's just a witness to this community. If nobody believes it, it's still
a witness in it. It's still a witness. And it's for you who hear it.
God's people. Well, to fulfill the Scripture. And he says here, now he's going
to Declare Christ's glory, who he is. All things redound unto his glory.
Oh, may the Lord give me his spirit right now. And you, as
you listen to this, may we behold his glory as of
the only begotten of the Father. You pray that right now. God,
this is majesty. Take your shoes off. Take your
spiritual shoes off. This is holy ground. He says
in verse 18, Behold, my servant. Now, my wife was over here yesterday while I was studying this, and
I told her afterward, I said, I've looked at this for a long
time. that I saw it. As I've never seen it before.
Behold. And God says behold, he means
stop. Look. Look into this. Stop and
consider. My servant. My servant. God is speaking and he calls
the Lord Jesus Christ his servant. My servant. as if he's his only
one. Now, God has many servants. He's
always had many servants, hasn't he? Before Christ came, he had
servants that did his bidding, but when Christ came, he says,
this is my servant, as if he's the only one. God had many prophets,
did he not? He had many prophets, faithful
men, good men, men of God, prophets of God. But yet, when Christ
came, he said, he's that prophet, this prophet, my prophet. God had many messengers, didn't
he? Many messengers throughout the scriptures, men who took
the message out. That's what an apostle meant,
messenger. But when Christ, and speaking of Christ, he says,
my messenger shall come to his temple. God had many witnesses, didn't
He? Many witnesses that testified. But when Christ came, and speaking
of Christ, He said, My witness, He's my faithful witness. Christ
said that over there previously. He said, No man knoweth the Father
but the Son. No man has seen God at any time.
Well, He did. He came from the bosom of the
Father. My witness. He's going to declare
unto you what He's seen and heard. But he says here, my servant,
listen to me now, come on now, my servant. What does this mean? My servant. What is a servant?
We don't know much about this today, only what we see in the
movie. What he's talking about here, back in old days, rich
lords, men who held vast estates, rich lords over vast estates. They had many servants, didn't
they? They had cooks, they had gardeners, they had housekeepers,
maids, and this and that and the other. But they had one servant, their butler, the man of their
right hand, the master of the estate, the Lord over all. He
had one man, the man of his choosing. His close man, right by his side
all the time. Whenever you see that rich man,
you see that butler at his side. He's always with him. Always
waiting on him. Serving him. The most trusted. The Lord over these vast estates
had his most trusted, faithful, loyal, diligent, conscientious
man of all right by his side. Serving his every wish. His every
word. The one whom he entrusted the
most important task, if there was something really needed to
be done, must his servant. The one whom he held in strict
confidence, the one whom he would confide in and tell his very
innermost secrets to, his servant, not even perhaps tell his bride,
his wife, but he would tell his servant his innermost thoughts,
reveal those unto him, knowing that he would keep them in strict
confidence. The one that he, and who did
he have in this place? The one who thought like him.
The one who loved the things that he, the one who was his
clone. The one who held his same convictions
about everything. The one who had his interest
first and foremost in his heart and in his mind. My servants. There's only been really one. God's right hand man, a man,
Jesus Christ. And the Lord over these estates,
he entrusted everything into the care of this one man. That's
right. Everything about his estate was
entrusted to this one man, all his vast holdings. were placed
under the care, the supervision, under the authority of his servants. Behold, my servants. Well, that meant something to
me. Jesus Christ, God's faithful, loyal, diligent, entrusted with
all, charge over all, he's given everything into his hands to
do it. And he by himself did this work
of salvation. God says, behold, my servant. Nobody else helped him. Nobody
was with him. All the other servants report
to him. And isn't that the way it was
back then? The cook, the maid, everybody reported to the chief
butler. He gave the order. He was given
authority over all. God says, Behold, my servant,
Jesus Christ, who has God's glory and all that God has in his heart
and in his mind, it's all entrusted to him. Verse 18 says, Whom I
have chosen Oh, there's one lady in here who better sit up and
pay attention. Psalm 89, 19 says, I have laid help upon one that
is mighty. In other words, I've chosen a
man to do the job and he's going to get it done. He's mighty.
He's not weak. He's not a failure. He's not,
as Brother Fortner likes to talk, a pinhead, a peon, an impotent
Jesus. Mighty. What does that mean?
All power. Not just that, you know, we don't
know might. We don't know power. We don't
know. We've never seen it. We've never
really seen all authority and all power. We've never lived
under an absolute king or sovereign. Never! Well, buddy, Jesus Christ
is such a one. Mighty. All power. He's not powerless to do anything. He says all power is given unto
me. Mighty, I have laid help upon
one that is mighty. I have exalted one. This is why all this stuff in
the name of religion is another abomination to God. All these
hats and robes and all these designations of man's whatever
it is they're designating, his religiosity or his knowledge,
you know, D.D. Fiddle D.D. Barnard used to say.
Fiddle D.D. All this stuff. I have exalted
one, God says, one. Any human being exalts himself
to any place of prominence or preeminence. God says, I have
one king of kings. And God's king,
like David, God's king knew his king. God's king, God's true
king, he bowed the knee to God's truth. David, who was Lord, said,
My Lord, I bow to Thee. David, who was exalted by God
to be king over Israel, David said, I'm meek and lowly. He's
exalted. I have exalted one chosen, chosen from among the
people, chosen out of the people. A man. Yes, a man. There was a man who walked this
planet years ago. There was a baby born in a stall,
cow stall, sheep manger, I should say. Grew up as a boy, a 12-year-old
boy sitting in the temple one day asking questions and being
asked questions. And astounded everybody. A boy,
a twelve-year-old boy. It was a thirty-year-old young
man who walked in the temple one day, and they gave him a
book to read. They gave him Isaiah 61. They
said, here, read this. It's your turn, young fella. I don't need a book. He said, this day, He said, the
Spirit of God hath anointed me. I am the One. I am the Christ. The One Chosen. The Chosen One. The Anointed One. The Exalted
One. I am He. This day is this scripture
fulfilled in your ears. The One speaking to you is I
am. A man. But he's wearing a disguise,
you see. He's wearing a veil. Now we see
Jesus nowhere. Everybody likes to talk about
him today. They still like to talk about the man Jesus. Made
a little lower than the angels. We see Jesus. Men still talk
about him. And He was made that for the
suffering of death. But now, you and I need to see
Him much higher than that. Much more than a man. We need
to see Him crowned with glory and honor. Lord over all. The
Lord Jesus Christ. When you do see Him, that's how
you will refer to Him from then on. The Lord Jesus. Thomas, after he finally saw
who he was, said, My Lord and my God. He was talking to a man
his same age. Thomas bowed the knee to a man
that was his same age, about thirty-three years old. A man.
Thomas bowed down in front of him and said, My Lord and my
God. Now, who could do that but God? I elect whom I have chosen, whom
I have chosen, whom I have chosen, hand-picked, chosen, exalted,
elevated, put in a high and lofty position. What's this high and
lofty position? What's the greatest position
of all? Servant. Servant. It's this high and lofty
position. The king of kings whom angels
serve came down to this earth to do what? Serve. Serve what? God's glory. And it was the highest calling
of all. Someone once said two angels
came to this earth, and they have many powers. And one was
given the task of sweeping the streets. One was given the task
of ruling a nation. Neither one of them would argue
over who got which job. But they both did it as unto
the Lord. And both were honorable positions sent by God. Now, he did that while he was
here. Three and a half years. Well, 33 and a half years. Served
God's glory, served it. Isaiah 42, it says he'll magnify
the law. God says of his servant, he'll
magnify the law. Nobody else ever has. Nobody
seems to give God words of thought, do they? Then or now, who cares
what God says? He did. He did. And he was inspired all the time. And it grieved his heart, everything
he saw, like Jeremiah the prophet said, my heart is grieved because
of all this stuff. Oh, how much more did it grieve
the Son of God himself? He who had God's glory in mind,
God's word on his heart and his mind that came to do God's will,
to do God's glory, saw all this stuff that robbed God of all
his glory. God says, He'll magnify my love. He'll make it honorable. These
Pharisees whom He had just been dealing with had made a mockery
of God, made a mockery of God's Word, as they do now more than
then. Now more than ever, the Word
of God is a mockery. God Almighty has been brought
down to nothing before man. Oh, He honored them. He made
it honorable. When it came out of his mouth,
it was a sword. He wasn't a weak little pinhead,
a helpless little fellow. Everybody he stood before with
the Word of God, his only weapon was God's Word. Everybody he
took fell back, cowed down. Even Pilate before whom he stood,
and he was bound before Pilate, unrecognizably beaten to a pulp.
A bloody pump standing before Pilate with his arms bound. Pilate sitting up there in all
his pomp. And he's staring right into that
pompous ass. And that man starts trembling
in his boots. He said, Thou couldst have no
power over me at all, except it be given thee from above.
What is truth? I'm not telling you. You see,
he's the truth. He's hid these things from the
wise and the prudent, the mighty and the noble. These who think
they're something and they're nothing. He who was esteemed
nothing by somebody who thought they were something. He was everything. That man was nothing. He's not
going to reveal it to him. He's hiding it from him. What? What's he hiding? His honor
and his glory. Oh, he sees there's a helpless
man named Jesus that's been in his hands and his power to do
it. He doesn't see the Lord of Glory. He doesn't see his sin
expiator. He doesn't see the Lamb of God,
does he? He doesn't see the mercy seat, does he, John? He doesn't
see all that. He sees a helpless man named
Jesus. But bless God, everybody whom he shows who he is, they
see themselves as helpless. They see him as all-powerful.
They see themselves as bloody men. They see Him as the Holy
Spirit. They see themselves as ugly, no comeliness, no beauty
in themselves, that He should desire them. I got a hold of something here.
It's a person. When somebody really sees Christ,
they see themselves as undesirable. There's no good thing in me and
in Him. Everything. You see that? This man, in all his splendor,
in all his glory, and in Christ, in all his blood, and all his...
Who's who here? Oh, God said, not as a man said.
My servants. What's he going to do? Well,
he's a failure, isn't he? Tried to get it done. They killed him. He
tried and he failed. His life's over. Oh no, they
killed poor Jesus. He's fulfilling God's will now,
right now. We've got Him now hung on a cross,
helpless. The whole universe is spinning
around that cross. He's got the universe in His
hands that are nailed to a tree. Huh? Behold my servant, and he shall show judgment to
the Gentiles." I am having a good time with this. Thank the Lord.
I'm personally having a good time. I didn't think I would
without fail when I When I have a good time studying, I fall
flat. But maybe this is for me. Maybe one time in my life I'm
going to preach. Every other time I've been asleep, just dreaming
it. God says, I will put my spirit,
verse 18, my beloved. How many messages does this deserve,
Stan? How much further could we take
my. How many messages are. Behold
my beloved. Beloved you know beloved is a.
My vocabulary is not very good. But beloved is a beloved term. I mean it means dear one it means
this is the one. Ah, when God spoke of His bride,
He called her beloved, and you know how she spoke of Him? My
beloved. That beloved's mine, and I'm
His. We're beloved. First love. First love. God's first son. Firstborn. Beloved. The owner of my bones. Huh. Express image of God. Beloved, my beloved, in whom
I'm well pleased, as you would say, you know, as you would say
of a perfect child, which there have never been any. I know we
all think we have had one, perhaps some do. No, there's only been
one. And it was God's son. He was
God's son. It. Yeah, that. was God's son. God was well pleased for his
righteousness, a perfect child. We've marveled before thinking
about Mary. You mothers, you know, sweet
as Kelly is and all that. She's Samuel's daughter, so you
know she's going to turn out kind of rotten. Right, Nancy? No, I'm asking the wrong person
there. Right? Well, she knows it. Parents know,
you know. If there are offspring, they're
going to need correcting, they're going to need chastening, they're
going to need a lot. As the scripture says, God said,
I'm well pleased for his righteousness sake. He's righteous, perfect
child, obedient child. Mary started to say, Mary had
her child maybe in a nursery somewhere, along with a bunch
of other children. And you know, women like to talk
about their children. And Jennifer, Mary said, He's
a perfect child. And they all would laugh and
say, No. He is. You don't understand. And I don't
understand. But he is. I never hear him cry. I never hear him cry. He never complains. I never have
to correct him. Ever. Who is this? He said, My son
in whom I am well pleased. Mary is just a caretaker. God's son, only son, well beloved,
only begotten son, my son. Can I take this a little further?
I'm out of time. If one person say yea, I'll do
it. All right, there's two. The yeas have it. My beloved
in whom my soul is well pleased, I will put my spirit upon him. As I've said before, the word
Christ means anointed. No man ever said in Scripture
he was anointed. Nobody ever said that. Isaiah
didn't say that in Isaiah 61. He was speaking under inspiration
of the Spirit of Christ, because Christ later on said, He's right
in a minute. Now, Christ said, I'm the one.
I'm the anointed one. You hear them say that today,
don't you? We've got Spirit-filled, anointed preaching. Christ is the anointing. He said,
I put my spirit upon him. He has the spirit without measure,
without measure. He's called the spirit of Christ. That's who the Holy Spirit serves.
You know, that's who the Holy Spirit serves. If Christ would
say it, he'd say of the Holy Spirit, my servant. Just like a son Nancy you see
here's the father he has a son with a son over the whole house
and he had his hair of all I did not sign the first which. Gets
it off air of all things to get a servant to. Your. Services and. I serve well he
said he shall show judgment to the gentile. Now, this is good,
and I'm going to close with these next two verses very quickly.
He'll show judgment to the Gentile. Now, everybody in here is a Gentile.
All right? What does that mean? It means
you came from a long line of savages. Yep. Savages. All of your relatives. Don't look up your family tree.
Don't do that at all. What you'll find is a bunch of
savages, every one of them. Heathens. Dancing naked around
idols. Yes, sir. Not just in Africa. They're Gentiles. Scotch Irish. Scotch Irish. Scotland Irish. Come from the Celts. C-E-L-T. Celts. Celtics. Nation. They were the most heathen, savage
people on the face of the earth. I've told you this before. But
they would go into battle naked. I mean stark naked. Wow, man,
long hair, couldn't bathe. I guess they thought that if
they looked wild enough and smelled wild enough, they'd chase the
enemy off. And religious, oh, they had the
most ridiculous superstition, all this stuff. Celts, heathens. You see, God's Word is the only
thing that'll make a human being wise. God's Word is the only
thing that will make a human being intelligent. God's Word
is the only thing that will make a human being civilized. God's
Word, God's Word, I mean the Word of God, the God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob, is the only thing, not the Koran, not that
trash. God's Word, the Bible, is the
only thing that will make a human being noble, a noble creature.
Otherwise, he's a beast. He'll act like a beast. Unless
God sends His Word, man will be worse than a beast. God's
Word. Now, you think back on where
all the Gentiles came from. I just mentioned the Celts to
you. God chose a race called Abraham, out of Abraham. Now,
who was Abraham? He was an idolater. What does
that mean? He had him a pole. Somebody went
in the forest and got a piece of a tree and cut it down and
shaped it like whatever, an eagle or something. And he decked it,
you know, ornament and painted it all up and he bowed down to
it. An idol worshipper. An ignorant fool. An ignorant
fool. An idol worshipper. Abraham. But God chose him to reveal himself
to him. Abraham, I'm not, I'm not like,
I'm not, I'm other than. I'm God. I thought you were, I'm in your
hands, Ralph. Isaac, Jacob, and on and on. And He gave His holy, pure, spotless,
wise, and wonderful Word. Are you with me? He gave His
wonderful Word. Nobody knew the mind of God.
Nobody knew how to get to God. Nobody knew anything about God.
But God revealed Himself, spoke, wrote a book. Now man is getting
some sense. Counting as some man is getting
in his right mind. He's been dancing around a pole
now. You see, God's not like that at all. Down in Cherokee, many of you
have gone down there, Cherokee. The Cherokee Indian, you know
something about the Indians, which modern man, amazing. You know modern man just thinks
that their ancient rights are some kind of deep mysterious
stuff you know. For some reason if it's Native
American they think it's just deep and spiritual. It's all
heathen idol worship is what it was. They'll tell you. You
go down there and there's a bunch of Cherokee in there full blood.
Dan Scott. You remember Dan Scott? One of
the first members of the church where Brother James pastor. Dan
Scott. a big scar. You remember that big scar on
the back of his head? Huge scar. He got hit in the head with a
tomahawk. Wow. Savages. Indian. Dancing around. That's
what this man was. Later on, God comes, sends a
red-headed, red-bearded stranger, red-headed stranger down there.
to preach the gospel, and that wild, savage man goes from idol-worshipping
to singing Amazing Grace, to worshipping the living and
true God and his crop. And so it brings forth judgment
to the Gentiles. You see that? That's what that
means. Give good sense to it. Judgment. Understanding. To the Gentile.
And he won't cry. He won't strive. He shall not
strive. When you strive with people,
we do it all the time, don't we? What are we doing? Dammit, yeah, that's right. We're trying to get them to...
Don't you understand? Why don't you believe me? If
you get mad and we try. Him. Now. You see he didn't come
down here to try anything. He didn't come down here to try
to do anything. My God said he was a job to do
knowing full well where he was going to go to whom he was going
to go do it too and he did it. And the rest he said leave him
alone. Yeah but leave them alone. They're not my sheep. He that
is of God, heareth God's word, like I told you. Why is it you
do not hear my word? You're not my sheep. Come unto me. Now there he is. He's offering his bit. He's calling
his sheep. You can go out in the sheep field
and say, come, come, all day long, if you're not the master,
then I don't care. If you are, then come on. That's what he did. He wasn't
inviting. He wasn't trying. He wasn't that. He was calm. I do it all the time. I go out
in this neighborhood full of dogs. Neighborhood full of dogs
now. And I call. I can, I can, I don't
have to say a name. I don't have to say a name. I
can say, Cut! And one dog is going to come. You better believe it.
He's going to come. Don't even have to say his name. That's
what he did. That's what he did, Nancy. You're
not going to strive. You're not going to argue with anybody.
Nor cry. Neither shall any man hear his
voice in the streets. You see, he's not trying to get
anybody to believe on him. Not doing that at all. Never
has, never will. He didn't do it, and his preachers
don't do it. My servant. King sends his butler
out, now you make an announcement. Don't plead with these peasants. Don't plead with these peasants.
Don't ask these peasants what they want to do. Wouldn't that
be an utter dishonor to the king if his servant went out and said,
oh won't you please, the lord of the manner or people who want
to be. Dishonored. Because we're just
declared. And my faithful subjects out
here. Others won't. Behold my servants. We need two more hours on this.
Wednesday night. What's your appetite? Hungry. Whet your appetite. Wednesday
night we're going to talk about Bruce Reeves and smoking flats. This great mighty one. He's not
even going to break a tender twig or put out the slightest
little smoking spark. I'm coming. You hear what that
means. All right. M number 216 and let's stand. We'll sing the first and last
verse, M number 216.
