Here's a statement that opens
up the Bible. You either believe it or you
don't. If you believe it, continue on. If you do not believe this, then
no need to go any further in the word of the Lord. Creation
versus evolution. Here's our text. We have two
verses here. Then there are two more verses
that I'd like to add on to that real quickly. But Genesis chapter
1 verse 1 and 2. In the beginning, God created
the heaven and the earth, and the earth was without form and
void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit
of God moved upon the face of the water. Now, rather, in Psalm
19 and verse 1, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament
showeth his handiwork. Paul writes in Romans 1 and verse
20, for the invisible things of him
from the creation of the world are clearly seen being understood
by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead,
so that they are without excuse. Now let's go back to our subject,
creation versus evolution. You know, I begin by reminding
us that there's nothing that has a more powerful or a greater
or a lasting influence upon an individual that is outside of
the internal work of God than what we call their worldview
of things, their philosophy of life, their beliefs, their core
belief, what we call their value system. That's very important
in guiding them and influencing them, what they believe about
the origin of all things of the world and of life and the universe,
and what they believe about death, and about life, and about life
after death, and about God, about heaven, about hell, about judgment,
and on and on we could go. Now God in Christianity and the
Bible, and the churches of the Lord, and our gospel, have had
many enemies and many perverters and many challenges over the
centuries. Some of them from without, some
of them from even within. There have been polytheism. There has been pantheism. There
has been materialism. And then from within, there has
been Romanism, Pelagianism, Semipelagianism, and Arminianism, all of them
not denying God outright, but making some perversion of God
and of the scripture and of the word of our blessed God, so by
them the truth of God is evilly spoken of. But probably, I would
say, that the most inverted enemy of all things concerning God
and the Bible and creation has been that false theory of evolution. It stands opposed to every truth
of the Bible. It is contrary to everything
that we believe and everything that the Bible teaches us. Evolution is what Henry M. Morris, in one of his books,
called the long war against God. Yes, it is. A long war against
God. It was at first appearing, I
guess, can be likened to a flea trying to attack an elephant. And evolution was largely and
mostly for a long time in the closet, and was considered as
a screwball idea. It was the butt of many jokes,
and few there were that accepted it. But now, if you look around,
it has actually been enshrined as the view of the world, and
is embraced by many of the professionals in education. It has been enshrined
in the educational system as scientific fact. It is found
in government and in governmental policy in our day, and biology,
and it is called science in our generation. Pardon me for going
back in time if you would, but some of us can remember in a
time gone by when it first began to appear in the textbooks that
were being used in the school and Christian parents and Christian
children objected to the doctrine of evolution because they did
not believe in it. And I remember some, even of
the teachers, also disagreed with evolution, but it was what
was in the book and what they had to teach in the classroom. And so this advice was given. concerning homework and concerning
tests. What shall I do? I don't believe
in evolution. Well, the advice came, just put
down the answer that is required in the textbook. Just give the
answer that is in the book that we are studying from. And that
answer was, of course, evolution. Thus, evolution was mostly and
largely rejected. And then it began to be called
a theory and a conjecture. And then it was elevated to the
status of scientific fact, now firmly entrenched in the school
and the university. And as one has said, it has become
the dominant view in many, if not most, of the textbook and
the curricula. And so tenured professors in
these institutions of higher learning are avowed evolutionists. Many of them are. And they challenge
and they oppose and they degrade any Christian view, and especially
that of creationism. They have managed to silence
anything that might be construed as Christian, and they have banned
any mention of creationism on the ground that it is religion,
but that evolution is science. Therefore, Christianity must
be put out and science and evolution elevated because it is according
under science. Now, pardon a minute, if I might,
upon the soapbox, but in our youth, I remember in the baccalaureate
services of the school, I remember probably the speaker would be
one of the ministers in the little city or in the community. and he might be the speaker at
a high school commencement exercise. That is, one of the preachers
or the pastor in the community. And there would be prayer, there
would be Bible reading, and there would be moral exhortation that
would be given. Now, at those speaking exercises,
it might be an ex-Black Panther or it might be a terrorist of
one sort giving the address at the graduation. Once the Ten
Commandments may have hanged in the classroom or the hall
of the churches, Bible reading might have started the day as
we begin our day in school. But since this now might offend
some little atheistic twerp, it cannot be done anymore in
the school. Once we white began with a pledge
of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. But now this might offend little
Mohammed and so we don't do that anymore and exalt our country. Now the point to be made concerning
evolution as being the view of the world, is not only is it
a lie, but it is the world's biggest fraud at this particular
time. Nor is it substantiated absolutely
by science. Philip Morrow, who before conversion
was a believer in the philosophy of materialism, then being called
by God and converted, later wrote a book, I believe it's Evolution
at the Bar, and this quote I took from it. Quote, evolution is
not scientific, for science has to do only with facts, and evolution
belongs wholly to the realm of speculative philosophy." Henry
Marx, another who had written extensively concerning creation,
and evolution has been made, says that evolution has been
made the pseudo-scientific rationale for all kinds of evil doctrine
and influences in the world," unquote. And again, he called
it the philosophy underlying all of the evils that are in
the world, all of the bad beliefs and all the bad policy and such
like. Now, as Christians and Bible
believers and worshippers of God, we ought to know, we ought
to realize, we have to recognize that it is not a harmless and
an indifferent position and teaching. It is not an indifferent philosophy
that is to be tolerated or that is to be passed by unnoted. That's because it is anti-God,
it is anti-Christian, it is anti-Bible. and there is no way that it can
be reconciled with the Bible and with Christianity. And between
the two positions of evolution and of creation, there can be
no friendship, there can be nothing but enmity, for a true evolutionist
would never ever accept any part of the Bible as true. He regards it as a collection
of fables. And evolution is a system based
on pure naturalism and does not accept the existence of God or
the inspiration of the scripture. And one I read described it this
way. in these words, quote, no cosmic
evolutionist can accept a miracle as any part of the natural process. To such a miracle as a part of
evolution would be unthinkable, unquote. Absolutely nothing supernatural
about the existence of the world, the universe, creation, man,
and such like. If you study evolution, there
is a name that will pop up. That name would be Thomas Huxley.
It is a name that comes up when tracing out the history and the
development of evolution. And this quote is attributed
to Thomas Huxley. Quote, not only do I hold it
to be proven, that the story of the deluge or the flood is
pure fiction, but I have no hesitation in affirming the same thing of
the story of creation." God had absolutely nothing to do with
it, and there is nothing supernatural about it. Another name that might
come up in the study of evolution is the name Marr, M-A-R-R. And he has written this, and
I quote, the universe, the stars, the earth, and all living things
have evolved through a long history that was neither foreordained
or programmed, end of quote. Here's another quote. most enlightened
person, now except as a fact that everything in the cosmos
from heavenly bodies to human beings has developed and continues
to develop through evolutionary processes," unquote. Then they speak of the nebular
hypothesis, and that is that this cosmic system developed
from a mass of gas, which formed then rings of matter out in the
space. Existing matter, they say, was
set then in motion and such like. So let them tell us. Where that
matter came from? How did that matter have come
to have existence? That's a question they don't
answer and they don't deal with. Christianity, on the other hand,
believes the Bible is the inerrant word of God, and it tells us
that God himself created all things by the word of his power,
actually calling them into existence out of absolutely nothing. He's speaking them into being. Let there be. Let there be, let
there be, and in every case it was so. And that he made the
earth, and that he made it suitable for man to dwell on. And then
he made man, or he made Adam. And he made Adam of the dust
of the earth, the Bible said. And then he opened up the side
of Adam, And he made a woman out of a rib out of the man's
side. You'll find that in Genesis chapter
1 and chapter 2. and that all human descendants
are from the first pair, Adam and Eve. Acts 17 and verse 26,
He hath made of one blood all nations of men, for to dwell
on the face of the earth, and hath determined the time and
the bounds of their habitation. That's what Paul said to those
Athenians there in the city of Athens. He tells them in the
24th verse of that chapter, God made the world and all things
therein, seeing he is Lord of heaven and of earth. You're familiar
with that great beginning of John's gospel, chapter 1 and
1 through 3? The world was created by Christ. He was in the beginning with
God. Without him was not anything made that was made. And here's
one for the Christian. In Hebrews chapter 11 and verse
3 is written, Through faith we understand that the worlds, think
the word would be ages, were framed by the Word of God, so
that the things which are seen were not made of things which
do appear." Now, part of the object of faith, a part of our
belief, is the belief and conviction that God created the world and
all that there is therein. We did not see it done. Nor did
anyone see it done to give us an account of that great action. How then do we believe such a
thing? Says Hebrews, by faith we believe. We believe in Genesis chapter
1 and chapter 2. And as John Brown wrote on Hebrews
11 and verse 3, God has given us a revelation on this subject,
and our knowledge arises out of our belief of that revelation,
unquote. God made the heaven and the earth,
and by faith we believe that he hath made it out of nothing. Actually, faith staggers not
at all. At hearing, in the beginning,
God created the heaven and the earth. As soon as the Holy Spirit
quickens us and works faith in us and calls us into the faith
of Christ, we immediately believe all things which are written
in the scripture, and that includes creation. It includes Adam and
Eve and their origin, the entrance of sin, the parting of the Red
Sea, the incarnation of the Son of God, His death on the cross,
burial in the tomb, and resurrection and ascension. All of these things
and more, we believe, because they are included in the scripture. And then we totally reject the
claims of evolution and that it is scientific, because it
is anti-God, anti-Christ, anti-Bible, and is a vocal enemy of Christianity. even if the whole world go after
it and espouse it. Now, at this point, let's consider
an aspect of evolution that has found its way into the more liberal
churches and seminaries of our day. Here's how they camel got
his nose under and in the tent, and pretty soon the whole camel,
is in the tent and I speak of something called theistic evolution. Have you heard of that? Theistic
evolution. But first let me share with you
an observation made by Philip Mara in that book and it's been
made by many others and by myself. An obvious truth as is seen in
our day and in every day and time and that is that practically
every false movement, every heretical invention, more or less has found
its way into the professing Christian churches of the day, has found
its way in some form or degree into professing Christendom.
has been espoused and welcomed by so many of the so-called Christian
churches. As an example, psychology now
sits on the front pew in so many of the churches of our day. I
remember the hippie movement. Remember that? Are you old enough?
I remember the hippie movement, espoused by and brought into
the churches. My, what a degradation of the
truth it was. Remember feminism? That found
its way into the church. Now we have women pastors and
rectors and such like. Remember, gay marriage now has
found its way into the church and acceptance by many of them. Worldly music has come into the
church. Reincarnation would be welcome
in some places in the church. environmentalism, new ageism,
all of these things have made inroads into the church and have
stained the truth as it is in Jesus Christ. And to that add
even a form of evolution, even what is called, I guess, Christian
evolution or a Christian view of evolution. Theistic evolution
is his name. Theistic means believer in God. A part of Christendom is willing
to accept a form of evolution if it is called theistic, which
while not denying outright the existence of God and that he
created, but they say that he might have created over thousands
and thousands and thousands of years created by a process of
evolution. Is that not a misnomer? created
by a process of evolution. This week I couldn't help it.
I dug out my old book by Clarence Larkin, if you're familiar with
that, called Dispensational Truth. He said this in that book, I'm
quoting, we have to fall back on science. We don't know exactly
how the world and the universe came into being. So we have to
fall back on science, he said. And he was open to the nebular
hypothesis as to the origin and the existence of the solar system. I want to get two more quotes
from him. Quote. The formation of our solar
system took thousands upon thousands of years," unquote. Again, quote,
how many millenniums of years must it have required for the
earth to pass from a molten state into a habitable condition, unquote. That's found in his book, Dispensational
Truth. And by the way, He believed in
a pre-adamite earth and he believed in pre-adamite a race of people
and he believed that Genesis chapter 1 was not the original
creation but a restoration of of the creation. But let us remember
that theistic evolution is evolution still, no matter what you call
it, no matter what name you give it. You can call a lion a lamb
but it is a lion still. Only the name has been changed
in order to mask the evil and the true nature of atheistic
evolution and to try to bring it into the church and to make
it respectable by sneaking it in and give evolution a boost. and form an illicit union between
God-creating and evolution, and between theology and science,
and try to bring them together as agreeable. It is clear, I
believe, that the creative days in Genesis chapter 1 were literal Days literal 24-hour day we read
again and again the evening and the morning where the first day
in verse 5 and on and on the evening and the morning where
the second day the evening and the morning where the third day
and so forth and so on and then it was a week of God finished
his work and He rested. We read that in Genesis chapter
1 verse 1 and 2 and that speculation some might use to justify theistic
evolution I'll mention now based on scripture in the Bible. You
remember in Genesis? No, it's in Psalm chapter 90
and verse 4 and it's mentioned by the Apostle Peter 2nd Peter
chapter 3 and verse 8 remember that that one day is with the
Lord as a Thousand years and a thousand years is as a day
And some have said that this could be or leave room for theistic
evolution I think this is badly used when it is applied in that
way. Gil said of the days in Genesis
chapter 1 that the evening and the morning, both together, are
one natural day consisting of 24 hours. Now, Methinks that
the one day is as a thousand years argument would never have
been used except they needed some kind of proof text for theistic
evolution. We must remember that not all
that is called science is true science in the word at all. The word science, of course,
means knowledge. science or knowledge, and should
be based upon truth. It's got to be based upon facts,
or it's not true science, it's not true knowledge. Only seeking
to find out what is actually true, not a premise and trying
to prove it, but by facts determining what is true. But you must remember
that scientists, or evolutionary scientists, also have an agenda. They have a bias. They have a
preconceived notion, and then they seek to make their facts
confirm their agenda. But we watch it over the course
of our lifetime. We see science changing positions
on so many things over even the course of our lifetime. From
what they said 10 years ago, they might say the opposite thing
now. Once chocolate is bad, now chocolate
is good. Once coffee is bad, and now it
might be beneficial. But perhaps their greatest fraud
is the claim that evolution is based upon scientific fact. This is fraudulent indeed. And it's sad to say that many
calling themselves Christian have swallowed the poison and
have drank the Kool-Aid. But the, quote, science, unquote,
behind evolution is built upon fraud and lies and deceit. And I want to give you a few
examples of that before we move along. Have you, for example,
heard of Nebraska Man? You've done much reading along
the line of evolution. Have you heard of Nebraska Man? Have you heard of Peking Man? Evolutionists can take the tooth
of a pig. Yes, evolutionists can take a
pig tooth and then draw a sketch or an outline of a hairy, stoop-shouldered,
ape-like prehistoric man, from one pig's tooth they have done
that. Nebraska man, so hailed as proof
of evolution, turned out to be a pig's tooth and that had been
filed upon. Piltdown man, have you heard
of him? It was a hoax. from an ape's
jaw and a human skull, artificially aged, given to students as proof
that evolution was true. You've heard of the Neanderthals,
I guess. Turned out to be people. just
ordinary people, some of them with bad arthritis and rickets,
but passed off by evolutionists as some kind of an old world
caveman, proof of evolution, but they turned out to be ordinary
people. Let me remind us, this is a fraud,
a deceit, and a lie. But let me just put beside it
another scientific hoax playing out now in our country and, sad
to say, all over the world. And I speak of the hoax of global
warming, a threat to the planet. a threat to all life as it exists
in the world, a health hazard caused by humans and can only
be solved by humans. And laws are being passed, taxes
are being imposed to take care of this great fraud that has
been perpetrated upon us. Now they have both ends covered.
When it's hot, dry, doesn't rain, parched, we have a drought, they'll
say, well, that's the result of global warming. But then in
the wintertime, when we get 20 feet of snow and record low colds,
That, too, is caused by global warming, they say. Now, if you
have bought into the scientific proof of global warming, you
should know that they have been caught lying. They have been
caught falsifying and perverting and hiding data about the truth
of global warming. Most of those pushing global
warming also would accept evolution. And I think that tells you something
about it. And some are getting filthy,
dirty, rich from it. And politicians are raising taxes
and taking away our liberty based upon this fraud that science
is telling us about here. Not long ago, We spoke about
humanism in a Sunday morning service, and that's the belief
that there is nothing supernatural and that people are totally independent
of any God. Humanists deny the existence
of God, the inspiration of the scripture as the word of God,
and they deny that man has an immoral soul that must stand
before God in judgment. And thus we would expect them
to embrace evolution with open arms because humanism and evolution
is a match made in hell if ever there was one. Now both systems
deny the spiritual depravity of the race. Neither of them
Neither of the humanists nor evolutionists believe that man
is a fallen sinner, and that he is depraved in nature, and
that he needs a savior, and that that savior is the Lord Jesus
Christ. Now concerning this question,
concerning man and evolution, we've looked at the cosmos and
evolution, but now concerning man and evolution. And we address
the especially so-called professing theistic evolutionary position
at this time. We would that the atheistic evolutionist
believes that human persons evolved up from lower animals or from
chemicals or lower form of life or a mass of slime and that it
took millions and millions of years. Now, tell us, oh theistic
evolutionists, how long was man in the making? How long was Adam
in the making? How long was it that Adam became
a full-grown man conscious living, breathing, walking, and such
like. If the world be made by an elongated
process over millions of years, and you accept their atheistic
view of the universe, then what about their atheistic view of
the human family? That this too took millions and
millions of years. And then how is it with those
species that reproduce, that multiply, that propagate by male
and female population, since evolution takes millions and
millions of years, how is it that male and female of all species
Both appeared at one and the same time. Can we attribute that
to evolution, that a male and a female of every species would
evolve at exactly the same time that they might begin mating
and therefore propagating their species? Why, everybody knows
that men are slower than women at catching on, don't we? Now
concerning men and women and the human family, the human species,
scriptures declare that God made the first pair of humans directly
by and with his hand. The man from the dust of the
earth the woman from the rib in the side of the man. And not
only so, but from this unique beginning, they were distinct
and separate and superior to all of the lower creatures that
God had created. They were higher and distinct
from all of the lower species. They did not come up from a bug
or a frog or a bird or something of that nature. God lay in place
an unbreakable law. everyone after his own kind. We read that again and again
in Genesis. After his kind. And this held
true for vegetation. It held true for the fruit tree,
for the sea creatures, the fowls, the cattle, the creeping things,
and the beast of the earth. And you'll see that in Genesis
chapter 1 and 18 through verse 25 when Adam begat offspring when
Adam and Eve conceived and begat offspring it was after his likeness
and image Genesis chapter 5 and verse 3 and Adam begat a son
in his image and after his likeness and man was made and in the image
and in the likeness of God. We read in Genesis chapter 1
and chapter 2, with a God so made them that they are after
his likeness and after his image. We conclude evolution is a dangerous
belief. It changes all things and all
perspectives away from the scripture, the worship of God, Christianity,
and such like. And no Christian should espouse
evolution. And no Christian should espouse
theistic evolution, for it is contrary to the scripture and
to the word of God. We stand firmly upon this. God created all things. He made the heaven, the earth,
the universe, things in heaven, things in earth, things in the
firmament, things on the earth, things in the sea. And he is
Lord, sovereign Lord of all of them. They did not come into
being by any manner of evolution. They came into being instantaneously. As God said, let there be. And
there was at the power of God who literally spoke them into
being ex nihilo, out of nothing. He did not use any pre-existing
material to make those things that he made. He spoke them into
existence by the power of his mouth and of his word and of
his will. So in the beginning, God created
the heaven and the earth and they declare the glory of God
and they leave men without excuse because in them is seen an exercise
of the power of the Godhead that is the divinity of God. May these things bless us and
strengthen us as we face in our day onslaught against the truth
of God and of the scripture. May we stand for it because the
Bible is for it.
