Go with me, if you would, back to Psalm 62. Psalm 62. I have preached from this psalm a few times, and I believe I've always preached the whole psalm. Maybe, maybe not, but I believe I've always preached the whole psalm. Tonight, I only want to preach the first two verses. I'm going to quote a couple more, but I just want to preach the first two verses and I pray this will be a real help and a real blessing to you because it was to me. I'm this was a real help in a real blessing to me. So I pray this will be to you Psalm 62 verse 1. It says. Truly. My soul waiteth upon God. From him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense.

I shall not be greatly moved. That right there is really the only thing that will be of any true help and blessing to a child of God in time of need. Verse one says, truly, truly. And if you have a center margin in your Bible, you'll see that that translates only that's what the word means. Only, only my soul waiteth. And if you have a center margin in your Bible, you'll see that that word waiteth means is silent. Only my soul is silent upon God. My soul is quietly waiting on the Lord, my God. Only. Only. Now, why is that? Why is that? Well, here's the reason why. Verse 1 says, it's because from him cometh my salvation. From him cometh my salvation. From him cometh my salvation.

Look with me at Psalm 3. Psalm 3 verse 8 says, Salvation belongeth unto the Lord. Thy blessing is upon thy people. Salvation belongs to the Lord and his blessing of salvation is upon his people. It's upon his chosen, elect, beloved people. Jonah said, Salvation is of the Lord. It's of the Lord.

It pleased the Lord to choose us in Christ. The Lord did that. It pleased the Lord to bruise Christ in our place. It pleased the Lord to lay our sin on him. The Lord did that. It pleased the Lord to reveal Christ to us, to reveal Christ in us, to reveal Christ for us. It pleased the Lord to call us. The Lord did all of this start to finish. It's the Lord.

Salvation is of the Lord. Turn with me to Psalm 37. Psalm 37 verse 38 says, the transgressors shall be destroyed together. The end of the wicked shall be cut off, but the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord. He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them. He shall deliver them from the wicked, the adversary themselves, the wicked. And he'll save them because they trust in him. Because they trust in him. They trust in him. Go back to Psalm 62 and look at verse eight. This is one of these other verses off quote. Psalm 62 verse 8 says, Trust in Him at all times.

Ye people, pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us. Trust in Him at all times. Ye people, pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge. for us, if there is one thing that I would want to really get across and really cause us to enter into from this message and from every message I preach, it would be the reality of the man, Christ Jesus, our God. It would be the reality of this man. May God cause us to enter into the reality of this man, real, the realty, the reality of this man.

If we are children of God, there is never a time that we are without this man. There's never a time that he's not with us. There's never a time that he is not looking on us. There's never a time that he's not hearing us. There's never a time that he does not know what we're going through. And it's because there's never a time that he is not leading us through whatever we're going through. There is never a time that he is not leading us through whatever we're going through. And if there's one thing that I want to say to myself and I want to say to you and I want to say to all of God's people, it's this.

Trust this man. I'm being real right now. This is not outlining. Trust this man. Trust this man, this man that has absolute control of our lives, even though we rarely think that. We rarely think, we know it, but we rarely think it. This man that has absolute control of our lives.

You know, life is always so hard. It's always so full of twists and turns. That's all it is. That's all it is. This flesh is few days and full of trouble. And it's just so, you know, we feel like we're barely staying afloat and just hanging on for dear life. But if we belong to this man, Jesus Christ, that's not the case. That's what we feel, but that's not the case. It is not the case at all.

Look at verse two. It says, he only is my rock and my salvation. That's all that he is to me, to us, to his people, his chosen, his elect, our rock. Iraq. If God put us in him, God put us in the cliff of the rock. It's where we are. If we're in him, that's where we are. If God placed us on him, God placed us on the foundation of the rock. And if he is our rock, then verse two says he is our defense. And it goes on to say, we're not going anywhere. We're not going anywhere. I know that we all have moments where we feel like we're going under. This is it. We're going on under, but on Christ, the solid rock, we stand and we're not going anywhere. David said, I shall not be greatly moved.

Turn with me to Isaiah 28. Isaiah 28, our Lord is condemning false preachers right here. And he's making a promise concerning his people. Isaiah 28 verse 13, it says. But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little, that they might go and fall backward and be broken and snared and taken. Wherefore, hear the word of the Lord, ye scornful men that rule this people which are in Jerusalem, because you have said, We've made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement. When the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us, for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves. Therefore, thus saith the Lord God, behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation.

He that believeth shall not make haste. The soul that is caused to believe and trust on the rock is not going anywhere. Not going anywhere. That soul will stand firm on the rock. First Corinthians 10 verse four says that rock is Christ. That rock is Christ. Now listen to this. Okay. And listen very carefully to this. I'm not just quoting an illustration. I'm not just rereading and repeating an illustration.

A vessel was wrecked one stormy night off the coast of England. All were drowned except an Irish boy because the waves swept him onto a great rock. In the morning, he was rescued. And they asked him, lad, didn't you tremble out there on the rock during the night? He said, sure I trembled, but the rock didn't tremble once all night long. Now, let me ask this question. Would that Irish boy have trusted in that rock had his ship not wrecked and those waves not carried him away? Would he have ever found that hope and that trust and that rest and that confidence in that rock had his ship not wrecked and those waves not carried him away?

Scroll with me through some scriptures. All right, go to Psalm 119. Psalm 119 verse 71, David said, it is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes. David said, it is good for me that I've been afflicted or I would have never learned to lean on your word. I would have never learned to turn to Christ and to truly cast my all on Christ and to trust the word of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I would have never learned that.

Look at verse 65. He said, Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O Lord, according unto thy word. Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I have believed thy commandments. Before I was afflicted, I went astray, but now I have kept thy word. Now I'm clinging to your word. I'm holding on to your word for dear life. Verse 68, he said, thou art good and doest good. Teach me thy statutes. Teach me your word. Turn with me to Romans 5. Romans five verse one, it says, therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom also we have access by faith into this grace, wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also. Knowing that tribulation worketh patience and patience experience and experience hope. These storms of life are what God uses to make us run for shelter and hope to the Lord Jesus Christ. This is what it is. Verse five says, and hope, which is the end result of tribulation.

So we just read. Hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, which is given unto us. Through these things, the love of God is revealed to us by his spirit. Through these things, we're reminded that we have someone to run to.

Through these things, it's like we're constantly living our lives out in the world, just floundering around. trying to figure out where to turn to. That's man's life, just trying to figure out where to turn to. And then our Lord, in his goodness, finally makes the water so deep, we realize nowhere to look but up. There's nowhere to look but up. Sometimes we're down in the bottom of the pit, so low, we finally are reminded of the fact, oh yeah, I can look up. My hope is up. My hope is up. Turn with me to 2 Corinthians 4. Verse 15, it says, For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

For which cause we faint not, but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. I know this world seems so unstable, but we have a stability. We have a stability and that stability is a man. and his name is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, our God. That's what David is saying in Psalm 62. Go back over to Psalm 62. Verse one says, truly my soul waiteth upon God. From him cometh my salvation.

He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be greatly moved. I will not be greatly moved. Verse six repeats verse two, but it leaves out the word greatly. Verse six says he only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be moved. God's people are not going to be moved. They are not going to be moved, but But brother Henry Mahan used to give this illustration on verse two, I shall not be greatly moved. Won't be greatly moved.

He said when he was in the Navy in world war two, the ships would travel together and they would anchor together. And he said, while they were anchored, the tides would drift those ships around and the wind would blow those ships around. And he said, sometimes, you know, he'd be working or doing whatever he was doing. He said, I'd be looking at the sun. And then the next thing you know, the sun's on my back because the ship is, he said, sometimes I'd be looking at land and go about my stuff and look up and it's wide open sea. because the ship was, you know, moving around. And he said, sometimes it was just chaos with those ships.

But as long as we were anchored, we weren't going anywhere. We weren't going anywhere. You know, they were tied to a pivot point. We're just sitting there tied to a pivot point. And that's what Christ is for his people. That's what the Lord Jesus Christ is for his people. Hebrews 6 says we have an anchor for our soul. And even though things can get a little chaotic at times and things can get a lot chaotic at times, as long as we're anchored to the rock, we're not going anywhere.

Just not going anywhere. So the message of this message tonight is look to the anchor of your soul. Look to your rock. Look to your salvation. Don't worry about what's right here. Don't worry about what's on the surface. Don't worry about what's on the surface. Look to your rock, look to the anchor, look to your salvation, your stronghold, your defense in quietness, in silence. Oh, this is such a good place to be. I'm telling you, such a good place to be. I want to be here. I'm preaching to myself in silence.

Just wait on him. Just silently, quietly wait on him and only wait on him. Wait on Him and only wait on Him. Do that and only do that. Only do that. Now I know I'm giving you a lot of illustrations tonight, but I have personally, and I mean this, I have personally witnessed the greatest illustration of what that is that I believe I'll ever see in this life. The greatest illustration of what it is to only, in silence, wait on Him. Only, only wait on Him.

Maybe six or eight years ago, something like that, our family took a little vacation for a couple of nights to Brevard, North Carolina. We were looking at waterfalls. In one of the afternoons, we were walking in their little downtown and we came up on a small hardware store and outside on the sidewalk was, it was either like a yellow lab or a golden retriever or some kind of just all American, good old family dog. And it was laying there with its head on his paws, just like that. And we're walking down the sidewalk, and we see the dog.

And Hannah and the girls immediately start talking to the dog in baby talk. And there's some people standing around, you know. And so Hannah's asking them, is this your dog? Do you mind if we pet your dog? And everybody's saying, no, it's not my dog. No, it's not my dog. Well, Hannah and a few people there, they started kind of getting interested in the dog. You know, whose dog are you? Whose dog is this?

Dog just sitting there, you know, and they would try talking to the dog and all the dog would do was raise eyebrows, you know, look up, look around, raise eyebrow. And so they, you know, tried to call the dog, you know, come here. Can you get up? You know, you know, come. Nothing. Raised eyebrows. That's all I got. So they started getting concerned about the dog. And something's wrong with this dog. I mean, this dog, can you move, buddy? Can you move? Can you get up? Come here. Come over here. Let me look at you. Come here. Something's wrong with this dog. Now, I'm not pet-minded, and I'm not medical-minded. They were getting me concerned. Like, all of a sudden, I'm concerned about this dog. Something's wrong with this dog.

And Hannah said, I think the dog is dehydrated. We got to get some water for this dog. And she said, I need you to go into the hardware store and get some water. We got to get water. So I go into the hardware store, and I'm looking for an employee. I finally find one, and I tell them, there's a dog outside, and something's wrong with this dog. Maybe dehydrated. Do you have something we can put water in? What is it? We have a dog out there? We got a dog that's dehydrated. It's a mission to find a bowl to put water. And I mean, you know, it was, I waited and waited.

They finally found a plastic container that had nails or something in it. They dumped it out, washed it. Water, give it, is this work? Yes, that'll work. I bring the water out. We set it down right in front of the dog's face. Nothing. You know, just, come on, buddy, drink the water. Here's some water. Hot, very hot out there. You want some water? Drink the water. We're trying to, like, ease him up onto it, you know? One of the other people had gone neighbor to neighbor, knocking on doors. We got a dog over, did y'all? Are you missing a dog? No? No, it's not our dog.

Hannah finally said, I don't know what to do. I don't know where any vets are. We're not from here. And this woman said, she said, I am from here. I know where the vet is. Let me go get my car, and I'll take the dog to the vet, see if the dog's OK. So we wait with the dog. And I don't know where her car was parked, but it was a good ways off. This has been going on for a good while now. And people are walking by. What's wrong with this dog?

So this girl finally pulls up. She opens her hatchback. She had some blankets. She got them all laid out. We drag the dog and get the dog up into the car. It's a fairly good-sized dog. And he's just no help, just limp, no help at all. We get this dog up in the car, and this girl gets the dog all settled. And this woman is about to close her hatchback, and lights and siren to the vet. And just before she does, a man walked out of the hardware store and said, what are y'all doing with my dog? And we all said, is this your dog? And he said, yeah. And we said, well, we didn't know whose dog it was. And he said, well, it's mine.

And we all are saying, well, we think something's wrong with him. He won't move. He won't drink. And the man said, he won't do any of those things because I told him to wait on me. He said, if I tell him to wait on me, if I say, wait right there, he won't come. He won't drink, he won't do anything but wait on me. He said that dog will lay right there as long as it takes until I come back for him.

Brethren, only wait on the Lord, only. Only wait upon the Lord Jesus Christ, your God. He is your rock. He's your rock. No one else is your rock. He's your rock. He's your salvation. He's your defense. You shall not be greatly moved. Wait on Him. Just wait on Him. Everything will be fine. You wait right there, everything will be fine. That's good news, isn't it? That's a real help when we need it. Just go to quietness. You got all this noise and all this action and everything, just go to quietness and wait on Him. Just do what the Lord our God told us to do. Wait on Him. Amen.
