What does the Bible say about being taken and left behind?

The Bible teaches that at the second coming of Christ, some will be taken to be with Him, while others will be left behind.

In Luke 17:34-36, Jesus speaks of a time when two people will be together, and one will be taken while the other is left. This event relates to the second coming of Christ, where those who are taken are the elect who will immediately enter the presence of Christ. The context urges believers to focus on the importance of being found in Him at His return, emphasizing that not everyone will be saved, and the taken are those chosen by God's grace. The passage serves as a reminder that spiritual readiness is paramount as not all will be raptured.

Luke 17:34-36, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17

How do we know that the rapture will happen?

The rapture is affirmed by scripture, particularly in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 which details the believers being caught up with Christ.

The certainty of the rapture is rooted in the promises of scripture. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, the apostle Paul describes how the Lord will descend from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise first, followed by believers who are alive being caught up to meet the Lord in the air. This passage gives assurance of the event and emphasizes that the resurrection of believers is a guaranteed future hope for those who are found in Christ. Furthermore, Jesus' teachings confirm the reality of His second coming and the gathering of His own, establishing a foundation for the doctrine of the rapture.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Luke 17:34-36

Why is it important for Christians to understand the doctrine of election?

Understanding election helps Christians grasp God's sovereignty in salvation and their assurance in Christ.

The doctrine of election is crucial as it reveals God’s sovereign grace in choosing individuals for salvation. Ephesians 2:1-5 illustrates that apart from God's intervention, we were dead in our sins. The difference is made through God's grace when He quickens us to new life, indicating that salvation is not based on human merit or decision, but on God’s eternal purpose and love. Recognizing this liberates believers from fear and provides assurance of their secure position in Christ, allowing them to live confidently in their faith and to share the gospel without hesitation, knowing it is God who saves.

Ephesians 2:1-5, 2 Timothy 1:9

What should Christians do to be prepared for Christ's return?

Christians should live in faith, continually look to Christ, and confess Him publicly to be prepared for His return.

To be prepared for Christ's return, believers are called to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him as per Luke 9:23. This means living a life of faith, where one is focused on the glory of Jesus and is engaged in sharing the message of the gospel. The importance of faith and obedience underscores a life transformed by the grace of God. Believers are also reminded in Luke 17:32 to remember Lot's wife, indicating that attachment to the world can endanger readiness. Therefore, a focus on Christ, repentance, and active discipleship are vital components of being prepared.

I've entitled this message, Taken. Taken. Verse 34, I tell you in that
night, Luke chapter 17, there shall be two men in one bed. The one shall be taken and the
other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together
The one shall be taken and the other left. Two men shall be
in the field. The one shall be taken and the
other left. Now, you've probably heard of
the Left Behind series, where these books have been written
to scare people to death about being left behind. And there's
going to be some time when all believers are raptured up and
everybody's going to be left behind. what is going to happen
during that time, and it's used to scare people and motivate
them to believe the gospel. Now, I need you to understand
that being scared of anything never motivated anybody to believe
the gospel. Fearing hell never motivated
anybody to believe the gospel. So I don't want you or me to
look at this passage of scripture in that light, and actually there's
been some debate as to what this means. Some people think that
this is something that happened in Matthew chapter 24 with the
sacking of Jerusalem and one taking another left behind, don't
look back for your stuff and so on. But it seems evident to
me that this has something to do with the second coming of
Christ. Look in verse 24 of this chapter. For as the lightning that lighteth
out of the one part under heaven shineth into the other part of
heaven, so shall also the son of man be in his day. And Matthew
24 quotes the same passages at his coming. So this has something
to do with the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now,
upon the Lord's return, this will take place all over this
world. I can't even imagine and don't understand all that
is going to happen at the second coming of Christ. I'm just looking
forward to who's returning. I mean, there's some things that
I can't put together. Some things I read in the scripture,
other things I read in the scripture, and I can't get them put together
with regard to his second coming. And I'm not real concerned about
that. Because I do know in my heart of hearts I'm yearning
for his return. And my heart says even so, come
Lord Jesus. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the
Lord came back tonight? Wouldn't it be wonderful? It would. It would. And we anxiously await
his return. But this passage of scripture
speaks of something that's going to take place all over the world. Somebody's taken and the taken
are the elect. That's who they are. They're
going to be taken, and they're going to be brought immediately
into Christ's presence. Now, a resurrection will take
place first, and the ones who are not dead upon Christ's return
will be taken, just like it says here, and meet the Lord in the
air. Look with me in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4. Let me show you that.
1 Thessalonians chapter 4. Verse 13, But I would not have
you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep.
I love the way the Bible talks about the death of the believers
asleep. He's just asleep. That you saw or not, even as
others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus
died and rose again, Even so, them also which sleep in Jesus
will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the
word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the
coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, and
the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God, and the
dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the
Lord in the air. And so shall we be ever with
the Lord. Now what a glorious future every
believer has. And at this time, when this takes
place, there'll be two men in a bed, one will be taken, the
other will be left. Two women grinding in a mill,
one will be taken, and the other left. Two men working in a field,
the one will be taken, and the other left. Now let's go back
to verse 24. For as the lightning that lighteth
out of the one part under heaven shineth into the other part under
heaven, so shall also the Son of Man be in his day. When he
returns, everyone is going to see it, and everyone's going
to know it, and everybody's going to know exactly who he is. Now
how all that works, I don't know, but that's the way it is. Everyone will know it's him. Revelation 11 says, 11 7 says,
Behold, he cometh with the clouds and every eye shall see him. And they also which pierced him
and all the kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. On
the day he returns, what will be important to you? A lot of stuff you've been thinking
about and I've been thinking about will be of absolutely no
consequence, will they? But on the day of his return,
what will be important? I know what will be important
to me and to every believer. Here's my only desire, that I
might be found in Jesus Christ. That's my desire. Oh, that I
may know in Christ and be found in him. When he shall come with
trumpet sound, oh, may I then in him be found, dressed in his
righteousness alone, faultless to stand. before God's holy throne. Now verse 25 says, but, this
is the Lord speaking, He'd been speaking of his second advent,
but he says, but he must, but first he must suffer many things
and be rejected of this generation. Now he's talking about the things
that he had to go through while he was here on the earth. First,
he must, I like that word must. Must means it's absolutely necessary. It's absolutely necessary for
him to suffer and be rejected of this regeneration, this generation. Now, why must he suffer? Let me give you a couple of reasons.
First, because God decreed it. And everything that God decrees
must come to pass. Him being delivered by the determinate
counsel and foreknowledge of God. Don't you love that? Him being delivered. by the determinate
counsel and foreknowledge of God you have taken and with wicked
hands have crucified and slain. That's why he must suffer. God
determined it. He's called the Lamb slain from
the foundation of the world. And because he's the Lamb slain
from the foundation of the world, he must be slain in time. He
must suffer. It was his father's purpose for
him to suffer. He had to suffer because he was
guilty. God must punish sin. And he stood as my substitute
and took my sin upon himself. And he became guilty of every
sin I've ever committed. My sin became his sin, who his
own self bear our sins in his own body on the tree. And God
is just, God is holy. God must punish all sin. My sin became his sin. He stood
as my substitute. He died in my place. And he had
to suffer because he was guilty. Why must he suffer? To save his
people. Thou shalt call his name Jesus,
for he shall save his people from their sins. Now that's why
he must suffer. And you think of the glory that
he's achieved by his suffering. I love to, I wish I could speak
of this the way it ought to be spoken of, but in the cross we
see everything God's pleased to make known about himself.
In the cross, we see all of his attributes right there. I see His justice. He's not going
to let sin go unpunished. I see His holiness, His hatred
of sin, but I see His love. I see His mercy. I see His grace. I see His wisdom. I see His power
in putting away sin. All that God is, we see in the
cross. The cross is He's glorious. That's why it says on that sign
we got from the scripture out, we preach Christ crucified. That's the only message. Paul
said, I determined not to know anything among you save Jesus
Christ and Him crucified. He must suffer. The cross must
be. Now, if I was to pick out one
word to declare the whole counsel of God, you know what it would
be? The cross. The cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, he must suffer, and oh,
I love to think of the achievements of his suffering. They spake
of the decease which he should accomplish. When he said it is
finished, everybody he died for was completely saved. Well, let's go on reading. Verse
26. As it was in the days of Noah,
So shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man. They did eat,
they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage.
Now you think about when Noah was building that ark. 120 years, all the stuff that
took place. I said this when I preached on
this passage of scripture a few weeks ago. I bet some little
boy came up to his father and said, Dad, this fella by the
name of Noah is building an ark. He says, God's gonna send a flood.
And his dad said, son, I know that. I said that to my dad 30
years ago, and he said that to his dad 30 years ago. This has
been going on forever. The guy's crazy. There he is
building the ark. He's, so business as usual. And the morning before that flood
with a deep was broken up and the rains came down. Somehow
I got the feeling that it was a sunny, bright, cheerful morning
and no one had any idea of what was getting ready to take place.
Verse 28, Likewise, also, as it was in
the days of Lot, they did eat, they drank, they bought, they
sold, they planted, they builded, they did all the things necessary
for life. But the same day that Lot went
out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and
destroyed them all, even thus shall it be in the day when the
Son of Man is revealed." Now, he's going to take everybody
by surprise. I know this much about when he returns, and he
said in the same speech in Matthew chapter 12 or sermon or whatever
you want to call it, he said, such as a time as you think not
with a son of man return. And that's when he's going to
come back at a time when me and you don't have any idea as to
when it will be. Anytime somebody makes some kind
of prediction, I know this, it won't be on the day they predict.
You can just write that down. Actually, I think it's so mysterious
the way the son said, no man knows the day of my return, not
even me, only the father, only the father. Now, if somebody
says, explain that to me, I wouldn't dare attempt. I don't know, but
it's just one of those things you believe in, because it's
in the Bible, but you can't really grasp it. How is it that the
son of God could not know when he's going to return and only
the father knows? I don't know, but that's what
he said. That's how we know that we don't know when he will return. Verse 31, in that day, he which
be upon the housetop, that is, stuff in the house, let him come,
let him not come down to take it away. And he that's in the
field, let him not likewise return back. How important will stuff be at
that time? Now, if you walked out here and
found a $10,000 bill laying there, nobody claiming it, you'd pick
it up, wouldn't you? And you'd be glad you had it.
And you would count it a blessed thing. Oh, what a blessing that
the Lord has let me have this $10,000. I can pay bills. I can
But you know, on that day, if you saw a $10,000 bill, it wouldn't
be worth your time to bend over and pick it up. That's how important
stuff will be at that day. Don't don't look back. Don't
don't go back after it. Remember Lot's wife, her heart
was still in Sodom. She never looked to Christ, and
she was turned into a pillar of salt. She got out of Sodom,
but her heart never left. And she never once looked to
Christ, and she was turned into a pillar of salt. We considered
that a couple of weeks ago. Now look at this statement the
Lord makes, and this is such an important statement. Verse 33. Whosoever shall seek to save
his life shall lose it. and whosoever shall lose his
life shall preserve it. Now this is the second time he
said this in Luke. Turn back to Luke chapter 9.
Let's look at the first time. Luke chapter 9. Look in verse 24, for whosoever
will save his life shall lose it, but whosoever will lose his
life for my sake, the same shall save it. Now there he says the
same thing again. Now look what he said in verse
23. And he said unto them all, if
any man will come after me. Well, I want to do that, don't
you? I want to be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. I want
to be His disciple. I want to be someone who comes
after Him. Oh, this is the only identification
I want. If any man will come after me,
is that your desire? Is your desire to follow after
the Lord Jesus Christ? Well, look what He says to do.
If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take
up his cross daily. and follow me. Now, those are some pretty rough
requirements. If I'm to come after cross, I'm
to deny myself. I'm to willingly take up my cross. Somebody says, well, I've got
a cross laid on me. No, this is not talking about some kind
of burden or affliction. This is something you willingly
and daily pick up. and follow the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, what is it that's going
to cause somebody to do something like that? What would make a
man deny himself, willingly take up his cross and follow Christ
and lose his life? Well, there's only one answer
to that, because he sees the excellency and the glory of the
Lord Jesus Christ. If I ever see the excellency
and the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, you know what I'm gonna
do? I'm gonna deny myself. I'm going to take up my cross,
and I'm going to follow Him. Paul put it this way. He said,
the things that were gained to me, I counted lost for Christ. Yea, doubtless, I count all things
but loss, but rubbish, but garbage, for the excellency of the knowledge
of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I've suffered the loss of
all things, and count them but done. That I may win Christ and be
found in Him. If I ever see the excellency
and the glory of the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. I'm going
to deny myself. I'm going to take up my cross,
my confession of Him, and I'm going to follow Him. Now, I wish
I could describe Him as I wish I could. This is one of the most
frustrating things in the world to try to describe the Lord Jesus
Christ. It's the best thing you can ever
do. It's the most glorious thing you can ever do. It's the most
blessed thing you can ever do, yet it's the most difficult thing
to do. He's somebody I've never seen
physically, yet he's somebody I know better than I know any
of you. He's God. He's man. He's the God-man. Oh, He's the God-man. He's fully God just as if He
were not man at all. He's God. He's the God of glory.
He's the great I Am. He's God and He's man. He's bone of our bones and flesh
of our flesh. He's a real man with flesh and
blood and heart and bones and skin. He's the man Christ Jesus. Now, what's the point? What's
the point? The God-man. Man sinned. Man must die because God is holy. God is just. God cannot let sin
go unpunished. Man sinned. Man must die. But here's the hitch. No man
can ever satisfy the justice of God. That is why hell lasts
forever. And you and I don't understand
that because we don't really see sin as evil as it is. But
sin is so evil that no man could ever make satisfaction to God. Man sinned, man must die, but
man can never satisfy God. The only one who could ever satisfy
God is God. Problem. God can't die. He's the eternal God. Man cannot
satisfy, God can. God can't die though. The God-man did both. The God-man made complete satisfaction
for our sins. That's why God raised him from
the dead. The God-man died and the God-man satisfied. What a
glorious person, the God-man. This glorious being, the son
of God, he's called in the scriptures, the brightness of God's glory. and the express image of His
person. He's called the Son of God. He's
called the Son of Man. He's called the friend of sinners. This One who's so glorious, so
high and so holy, He's called the sinner's friend. This Man
receives sinners. That's the best thing I've ever
heard. He receives me. This Man who is God, will not
cast out anyone who comes to him. I don't care who you are,
what you've done. He won't cast you out if you come. He said,
all that the Father giveth me shall come to me, and him that
cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. This is the one who's
meek and lowly in heart, yet he's all-powerful, all-wise,
he's immutable, he's sovereign. That means he controls everybody
and everything. He's altogether lovely. He's
altogether lovely. He's eternal. He's the Savior. And that's what He did when He
said, it is finished. He saved all of His people from their
sins. Now that's the Son of God that you, if I receive, for who
He is, I will gladly deny myself, take up my cross, and follow
Him. You see, when you see Him, you want to deny yourself because
you hate yourself. You really do, you hate self.
Self-righteousness, self-interest, self-indulgence, self-seeking,
self-promotion, self-centered, self-willed, self-serving, self-vindicating,
self-justifying, self-pleasing, self-absorbed, self-conscious. In a word, selfish. Selfish. And when you see the Lord Jesus
Christ, y'all know what all those terms mean, you know? I know
them all by experience, every one of them. And when you see
the Lord Jesus Christ for who he is, you want to deny self. You see the ugliness of self
in light of his beauty. And when you see him, you want
to take up his cross. Now, this is our confession of Christ.
That's what, to take it, this is not some kind of, this is
my burden. I've got this disease, or I've
got this affliction, or I've got this problem in my life that
I can't see any way out of it, and it seems like I'm gonna have
to die with it. Well, you might do it, but that's not taking up
your cross. Taking up your cross is the confession
in this world of the Lord Jesus Christ, what he actually accomplished. The world has no love for our
gospel. They find it offensive. I am in Christ's hands and He's
not mine. Are you telling me that? You're telling me that
I have no control in salvation and that I can't do anything
to save myself? You're telling me that I can't even come to
Christ? That's a... Well, I don't believe that. I'm
not going to stand for that. You're telling me that I've got
to believe that to be saved? That's exactly right. That's exactly
right. And that's our confession of
Christ. We confess him before this world. Why, that's insane.
Well, it's the truth. To take up the cross is to preach
and to be identified with the message that the world hates. And I do so willingly when I
see the beauty of Jesus Christ. Now, if you don't see the beauty
of Jesus Christ, you're not going to be identified with this message.
Too much trouble. When Paul read that, the parable of the sower,
that when the stoning ground here, when persecution arose
from the word, they, by and by, they were offended. They didn't
first receive the word joyfully. It seemed great, but when they
had to suffer persecution because of the word, or if it cost us
something, they left. Now, such have not truly been
saved, have they? No, if you ever see the Lord
Jesus Christ, you're going to, you're going to want to be identified
with his message. You're going to be, want to be
identified with that message. The world hates, but you love
because you find your salvation in that. And then follow, he
said, follow me, follow me. And I know this, the only way
you can follow somebody is keep your eyes on them. It's looking
to Christ. It's that simple. You keep your
eyes on Him. Now, in verse 24, he said, for,
and this is his comment on that, for, whosoever will save his
life shall lose it. But whosoever will lose his life
for my sake, the same shall save it. Now this verse here means
if you spare yourself, And if you don't take up your cross,
and if you do not follow him in order to save your earthly
life, you'll lose it in the world to come. And you lose your life
in denying self, taking up your cross, and following him, you
will live eternally. And it also means this, back
to Luke 17, where he makes this statement again. Verse 33, whosoever shall seek
to save his life shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose his
life shall preserve it. If I seek to save my life by
my works, I'll be damned. And if I lose my life and look
to Christ only, I shall be saved. That's the promise of the gospel.
You seek to save yourself in any way. Don't look to Christ
only. You'll be damned for your efforts.
You look to Christ only. Your life shall be preserved. And then he makes that statement.
Verse 34. I'll tell you, in that night
there should be two men in one bed. The one should be taken
and the other should be left. Two women should be grinding
together. The one should be taken and the other left. Two men should
be in the field. The one should be taken and the
other left. Now when Christ returns, not
everybody's gonna be saved. And not everybody's saved right
now. When Christ returns, not everyone
will be saved. There will be people taken, and
there will be people left. Those taken will immediately
meet the Lord in the air, according to 1 Thessalonians 4, that passage
of scripture I just read, and heaven begins. I'm going to have
a glorified body, and I'm going to be a state of sinlessness. Wow. That is the heritage of
every believer. A glorified body. and a state
of utter sinlessness in the presence of Christ, beholding His glory. Even so come Lord Jesus. And you know, in that sense,
I want to say this, I don't, you know, Claire, when you were
talking about being afraid to die, every believer is afraid to die
when they think about their sin. You see, the sting of death is
sin. But when, by the grace of God,
you see that the sin problem has been completely removed by
what Christ did, and you really believe that all God requires
of you, He looks to His Son for every bit of it, you're not afraid
to die, are you? Now, if you're not settled there,
and when you're looking to yourself, when you're looking to how holy
you are, and how much progress you've made in grace, and all
those things, yeah, you're afraid to die. I'm afraid to die then.
All I gotta do is look to myself, and I lose all assurance. I look
to Him, and I have assurance. I look to myself, I think, I
must not be saved. And you know, there's not a day
that goes by at some point when I don't think that I couldn't
be saved if I think this, if I do that, if I'm like this.
Thank God every now and then the Lord gives me grace to believe
the gospel and I'm not afraid of death. Now he's talking about
when Christ comes to laying in a bed, one take it. Well, what
about those fellas who are left? Well, somehow wrath begins with
them, and I don't know what all takes place. I mean, there's
passages in Revelation that seem to say that they're going to
go through some kind of torment. I don't know what all is going
to take place, but it's not good. I know that. It's not good. I don't want to be seen outside
of Christ in any way. I don't want to be one of those
people left behind, do you? I want to be taken by His sovereign
grace. Now, one taken and the other
left. What was the difference between those who were taken
and those who were left? This is what we're going to close
with considering. Turn with me to Ephesians chapter 2. Because
this is an event. And it's the way God says it.
Some believe, some believe not. Some are saved, some are not
saved. Some are taken, some are left. What is the difference
between those who are taken and those who are left? Now the scripture
answers this question, Ephesians chapter two. And you, verse one, hath he quickened
who were dead in trespasses and sins, wherein in times past you
walked according to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the devil, the spirit that now
worketh in the children of disobedience. Every unbeliever you know, Satan
controls their life. Every one of them. But you know
what? There was a time when he controlled your life. And you
were just as dead in sins as they were. So by nature, there
was no difference between the taken and those who were left
behind. No difference at all. Verse three,
among whom also we all had our conversation in times past, in
the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and
of the mind. And we were by nature, the children
of wrath, just like everybody else. Now, what's the difference? By nature, Nothing. And if you know the Lord, you
know that's true regarding you. There was a time when you were
dead, dead in trespasses and sins. And you know, you don't
really find that out until you're given life. When you're dead,
you don't know it. When you're given life, you know
what that deadness was and is. And as a matter of fact, you
know what it is because you still have that dead nature. You're carrying around with you.
You have two natures. You have a holy nature and you have a dead nature.
A sinful nature. And it's right there breathing
on you. And you could have never recognized that until God gave
you spiritual life. So what's the difference between
those who were taken and those who were left by nature? Nothing. Verse 4. Here's the difference. But God Martin Lloyd-Jones preached a
message he entitled, But God. And you want to know what grace
is? Here it is. But God. Here's the difference. Don't
you know this is so? But God, who is rich in mercy, For his
great love, wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in
sins, hath quickened us together with Christ. By grace you are
saved. Now let me tell you when I was
saved. Let me tell you when I was given life. Now I realize that
sometime, I don't know when it was in my lifetime, But there
was a time when I was dead and I was given life. I can't give
you the exact date. I don't know when it was. And
I remember hearing a preacher say, if you was given life, you'd
know it. And I remember he said, if you broke your leg, you'd
know you broke it. Well, maybe so. But when I was born, I didn't
know I was born. And I don't remember when I was
born. I can't look back and say, yeah, I remember when I was born.
I don't remember. I don't know. I know one time I was born. But
let me tell you when I lived. I lived. before God when Christ
was raised from the dead. Do you know every one of us have
the same birth date? We lived at the same time when
Christ was raised from the dead. Even when we were dead in sins,
hath quickened us together with Christ. When Christ was quickened,
raised from the dead, I was raised from the dead when Christ was
Justified, I was justified. When Christ was accepted, I was
accepted. That's when I lived. Now, I find
so much more comfort in looking at my spiritual life at that
date than I do some day when all of a sudden I'm, well, I
believe now. I don't know when I believed. I can remember a
time when I didn't, I'll tell you that. And I can remember
a time when I was asking myself, I would believe if I knew what
it meant, I just don't know what it means. I would repent if I
knew what it meant, but I don't know what it means to repent.
And then I found myself believing. I found myself in a continual
state of repentance. Now that's when I was given life,
but I was given life when Christ was quickened. Now let's go on
reading. Even when we were dead in sins,
hath quickened us together with Christ by grace, ye are saved. And hath raised us up together,
and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. I'm in heaven right now. I've heard people say so many
times, I'm for sure for heaven as if I'm already there. I got
better than that. I am already there in Christ.
That's how secure I am. My security is wholly and utterly
in Christ. He is the difference. I am already
there. that in the ages to come, this
is what heaven is going to be all about, verse 7, that in the
ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace
in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus, for by grace are
you saved, through faith. And that not of yourselves, it's
the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast, for
we're his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,
which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. There is a difference. One's
taken, the other's left. What's the difference but God?
The grace of God. Christ being raised from the
dead. Now, what would it profit a man
if he gained the whole world and he lost his soul? What would
a man give in exchange for his soul? It's appointed unto men
once to die and after that the judgment And I don't want to
be one of these people left behind, do you? I want to be taken. I want him to take me. I want
him to take me. I like the strength of that word. I want to be taken. Now, this
is the heritage of all those who believe. Now, I want to leave
you with this. Somebody thinks, I believe what you preach. I believe what the Bible says
about salvation being by grace. I believe in election. I believe
that Christ redeemed the elect. I believe God the Holy Spirit
gives them life. I see the scripture teaches that,
but what can I do to make my, what can I do to be saved? I
mean, I see it's all together out of my control. So what am
I supposed to do? Just wait and find out whether
I'm taken or whether I'm left? Is that what I'm supposed to
do? Just wait and one of these days I'm going to see somebody
rise up and here I am. No. No. God commands all men everywhere
to repent. Now you don't need to worry whether
or not you're one of the elect. You don't need to worry whether
or not Christ died for you. You're commanded by God to repent,
to change your mind right now about yourself, about Him, and
you're commanded to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. God commands
you. And if He commands you, better
obey that command. Sirs, what must I do to be saved? Now, Paul didn't say, man, you're
coming in on works, there's nothing you can do to be saved. You're
taking the law route. He didn't say that at all, did
he? He said, believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ. Believe that He's the Lord. Believe that He's the Savior,
Jesus. Believe that He's the Christ,
God's anointed prophet, priest, and king. Believe Him. That's it. Believe. Whoso believeth that Jesus is
the Christ is born of God. Jesus is the Christ. Now, do
you believe He's the Son of God? Beloved, that's saving faith.
You don't need to worry about whether or not you're one of
the elect or whether or not you're going to be left behind. What
you're called upon to do is believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of the Living God. You know, I believe that He's
the Christ. I believe that He's the Son of
the Living God. You know what? If you believe
that, you're going to be taken. And if you don't believe that,
you're going to be left behind. And that's what ought to happen
to anyone who doesn't believe on the Christ, the Son of the
living God. May God create faith, saving
faith in each heart here for Christ's sake. Let's pray together. Lord, we have So much about ourselves to make
us fear. And Lord, we ask that you would
give us the grace to look away from self and look to thy dear
son. And Lord. May we be may everybody
in this room be people who believe the gospel. and people who will
be taken. In Christ's blessed name we pray.
Amen.
