Psalm 70. As I've tried to bring
a message from each of these psalms, 150 psalms, many of the
psalms I have preached from on different occasions, some of
the psalms more than one occasion. I've preached several times that
I can think of from Psalm 70. many of the Psalms, or maybe
I can say many of the Psalms, I'll just leave it that way.
I've not preached a message from them before, but Psalm 70 is
one that I've worked on before, Psalm 70. I'm entitling the message
from the words found in verse four, and I'm calling this message,
Believers Love God's Salvation. You see that let such as love
thy salvation. Believers do love, they do love
God's salvation. Believers truly do love salvation,
God's salvation. Because they love who God's salvation
is. God's salvation is the Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. He is the Lord Jesus Christ is
God's salvation. He's God's lamb, sacrificial
lamb. He's God's Christ. He's God's
Messiah. He's God's anointed. We just
read a moment ago the words of Simeon. Now let us thy servant
depart in peace according to thy word. For mine eyes have
seen. He's looking at a baby eight
days old. And he says, my eyes have seen
that salvation that God has provided. What does that tell us? That
tells us that salvation is in a person. In a person, the Lord
Jesus Christ. And surely believers confess
their salvation in no other. Salvation in no other no other
name under heaven given among men whereby we must we must be
saved now this psalm here and the title is called a Notice
psalm 70 in the title there. It's a psalm of David to bring
to remembrance To bring to remembrance now, I don't know about you,
but as I grow older my memory gets quite faint Quite faint
and I need to be reminded all the time. I Oftentimes we remember,
see if you don't think this is so, oftentimes we remember the
things we should forget and we forget the things we should remember.
All the scriptures were given of God, God breathed, God had
given to tell us the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and remind
us that all that God has promised, God will perform. That's our
persuasion. If anybody ever asks you what
persuasion you are, tell them you're persuaded this way, that
all that God has provided, all that God has promised, that He
is able to perform. That's our persuasion. I'm persuaded,
Abraham said. All that God, as Paul quotes
from Abraham, Abraham believed God, all that God had promised,
He will provide. I'm of that persuasion. I'm persuaded
that neither death, nor life, nor principality or power can
separate us from the love of God which is in the Lord Jesus
Christ. I'm of the persuasion that all
that God has promised, He's able to perform. And certainly, the
gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ reminds us of all that God has
done for us in Christ Jesus. He's performed all things for
us, all things that He has promised, and as a song that was just sung,
all that God has, all that I've needed, His hand has provided.
Great is our faithfulness, Lord, unto me. In Genesis 22, He's called Jehovah
Jireh, the Lord will provide, right? Only, you remember this,
write this down, only that which God provides will God accept. Only that which God provides
will God accept. Our acceptance is in the beloved.
Because of our sinful infirmities and frailties, we need to be
reminded of several things. And this is what the gospel does
when the gospel of God's grace is preached. It reminds us, first
of all, of who we are. Who we are, not what we have
done, but who we are. If we say we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves and the truth's not in us. If we say we're not
sinners, if we say we have not that sin nature that we've inherited
in birth, being a transgressor from the womb, the word of God
reminds us of who we are. Depraved, totally depraved, sinful,
none righteous, no, not one. But the Word of God also reminds
us of who God is. He's the Holy One. He is the
Redeemer. He is God, our Savior. Reminds us of who God is. Absolute
Sovereign, Absolute God. As I said earlier, either He
is Absolute God and Sovereign in creation, providence, and
salvation, or He's not God at all. And the Book of God teaches
that He is Sovereign. So the Word of God reminds us,
and this is what we need to be reminded of, that we are sinners,
that God is holy, most holy, and also the Word of God in the
Gospel reminds us of who the Lord Jesus Christ is. Who is
He? You know, many people have different
opinions. Our Lord asked Peter, well, whom
do men say that I am? You remember they had different
opinions. Well, you know, you're one of the prophets or Somebody
special or somebody and then he asked him who do you say that
I am? And he said thou art the Christ
the son of the living God we believe in a sure that thou art
that Christ Who is the Lord Jesus Christ? He's none other than
God manifest in the flesh. That's who he is God Almighty without controversy
great is the mystery of godliness God was manifest in the flesh
and When we observe the Lord's table, we are to observe the
Lord's table with these words. He said, do this in remembrance
of me, in remembrance of me. Now we need to be reminded of
these things. And when the gospel is preached
from the word of God, these things are brought to our remembrance,
aren't they? A psalm of remembrance. We'll
consider verse 1 and verse 5 together. Here's our crucial need and our
urgent plea, cry, and prayer before God. Make haste, O God,
to deliver me. Make haste to help me. Vain is
the help of a man. Look at verse 5. The reason being
I'm poor and needy. Make haste to me, O God, Thou
art my help. Thou art my deliverer. O Lord,
don't delay. Save me now. Deliver me now. And here's I cry, O Lord, make
haste. You know what that means? That
means hurry. Hurry, I'm in deep trouble. Hurry, hurry. Hurry
to deliver me. And that word means to pluck
out. to preserve, to recover, to rescue,
to save me. Oh, Lord, make haste to deliver
me. Make haste to redeem me. Make
haste to save me. Now, it is useless to cry unto
Daddy to save me. It is useless to cry unto the
church to save me. It is useless to cry unto the
preacher. Preacher, save me. But I tell you where we do and
who we do cry unto who is able to help crying to the Lord, whosoever
shall call upon the name of the Lord, now get a hold of that,
whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Make haste to hurry, make haste
to deliver, make haste and hurry to deliver, to rescue and to
save me. Now, who else is able? Who else
is able to save me? Considering my condition by nature,
dead in trespasses and in sin, who else is able to save me?
The Word of God teaches us that He is able to save to the uttermost. The Word of God teaches us that
His hand is not shortened, that He cannot save. His hand is almighty
to save, isn't it? Who else is able to save? He's
able to save us and He's able to keep us from falling and to
present us, fall us before the presence of God's throne with
exceeding joy. Who else is able? None but the
Lord. He's able to save. Who else is
willing to do so? The Lord Jesus Christ is most
willing to save His people. He laid down His life, willingly,
to save them. He said, "...all that the Father
hath given to me, they will come to me, and I will in no wise
cast them out. For I came down from heaven,
not to do my own will, but the will of Him that sent me." And
this is the Father's will, which is, "...sent me all that the
Father hath given to me." All that the Father hath given to
me, and all those who see the Son, believe the Son, bow to
the Son by His grace, shall be saved. Who else is able? Who
else is willing? Who else is pleased to do so?
I like what the Apostle writes in Galatians chapter 1, when
it pleased God to separate me from my mother's womb and call
me by his grace. When will a sinner be saved?
When it pleases God. When it pleases God. Who else
is pleased to do so? Who else is able? Who else is
willing? None but the Lord Jesus Christ. None but our kinsman
Redeemer who is near kin to us, who has a right to redeem, who
is able and willing to redeem. You remember the story in the
book of Ruth? Boaz the kinsman Redeemer who redeemed Naomi and
Ruth. Three things had to be true in
order for him to be the kinsman Redeemer. First of all, he had
to be near kin. Second of all, he had to be willing
to do so. And thirdly, he had to be able
to do so. And the Lord Jesus Christ, Boaz,
is a very good picture and type, a personal picture and type of
the Lord Jesus Christ, who is both able, who has the right
to redeem, who is near kin, who is able, and who is willing to
redeem us. Oh Lord, save me. You ever ask
the Lord to save you? I tell you, if you're ever lost,
if the Lord ever makes you to know you're a lost sinner, guilty
before God, you cry out for mercy. That's who does. We see the reasons
why we need salvation down in verse 5, I'm poor and needy.
Here's why we need so great salvation. I am poor and needy. I like what
it says in Psalm 40 verse 17. I am poor and needy, yet the
Lord thinks upon me. Though he be high, he hath respect
unto the lowly. I am poor and needy, he's nigh
them of a broken heart. Save us such as be of a contrite
spirit. We are poor and needy, aren't
we? Poor. That is, we are spiritually bankrupt
before God. We have nothing, know nothing,
and are nothing before God. Man in his best state is altogether,
altogether vanity and nothing before Him. We are indeed poor
and needy. Do you know who the Lord Jesus
Christ came to save? He came to save the beggars on
the dunghill. Read 1 Samuel chapter 2, the
prayer of Hannah. And we are indeed not only poor,
but we are needy. We are sinful creatures. We need. We sing that song sometimes,
I need thee, Lord I need thee. Oh, I need thee, precious Savior. We are needy, sinful creatures. What do we need? Christ. Everything. Everything God has
for any guilty sinner is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. What
do we need? Him. Mainly Christ. Mainly the Lord Jesus Christ.
Listen to this scripture. In John 1 16. Of his fullness
have we all received grace for grace. You know that's the only
reason for grace. grace for grace, grace because
of grace, of His fullness have we all received grace, and then
listen to this scripture over in Colossians 2 verse 9 and 10,
in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily and in
Christ we stand complete, here's a poor needy sinner made whole
and complete, completely redeemed, completely pardoned, completely
made a new creature in Christ Jesus? You see, I am poor and
needy, yet the Lord thinks upon me. Now, what has the Lord delivered
us from? We need deliverance because we're
poor and needy sinners. But what has the Lord delivered
us from? S-I-N. Sin. It says in the Hebrew letter,
epistle, Hebrews 9, 26, that He appeared once in the end of
the age to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. We need
deliverance from our sin. He is called in Scripture, the
Deliverer, who actually delivers His people from their sin. In
whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of
sin, according to the riches of his grace Ephesians 1 7 he
delivered us from the penalty of sin the penalty of sin is
death and guilt he's redeemed us from the curse of the law
being made a curse for us he delivered us not only from the
penalty of sin but from the power of sin In Romans 6, it says,
sin shall not have dominion over you, for you're not under the
law, but under grace. Under grace. And one day, soon
by His grace and power, He'll deliver us, not only from the
penalty of sin, from the power of sin, but thank God, one day,
from the presence of sin. I like that. Scripture over in
Revelation 21, no more sorrow, no more death. No more tears,
there be a new heaven and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness. Make haste, O God, to deliver
me. Now look at verses two and three. Let them be ashamed and
confounded that seek after my soul. Let them be turned backward
and put to confusion that desire my hurt. Let them, he keeps saying
them, who are the them? Let them, let them be turned
back. Let them be confounded and confused. Let them be turned back for reward
of their shame that say, or make fun and say, ah-ha, ah-ha, gotcha. Who are these people? All those
who are enemies of the gospel of God's grace. Enemies to the
Lord Jesus Christ. All those who oppose the way
of sovereign grace, of sovereign salvation, through the Lord Jesus
Christ alone, through Him alone. Powerful and weighty judgments
are given here against the enemies of Christ. He said, let them
be ashamed. Let them be ashamed. Now let's
find the scripture here. I want you to find Isaiah 45.
Let them be ashamed. Ashamed before God. Look what
it says in Isaiah 45, verse 16. They shall be ashamed and also
confounded, all of them, Isaiah 45, 16, together that are makers
of idols. Confounded, confused, and ashamed. all idolatry is confusion but
Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation
you shall not be ashamed or confounded world without end now what a
contrast all the enemies of the gospel shall be ashamed and confounded and they will be confused they
are confused and they will stay confused and in the day of judgment
they still will be confused We read of those in Matthew chapter
7 that said, Lord, we preached in your name. We've done many
wonderful works in your name. We even said that we've cast
out devils in your name. Remember what the Lord said? Depart from me, ye workers of
iniquity. I never knew you. Those folks
will be absolutely confused in that day. They lived confused,
they died confused, and in the judgment they're still confused.
They still think that their work recommend them unto God. And they don't. Not at all. He said, let them be turned back. Back, not forward. Let them be
turned back. Backward. And put to confusion
that desire my hurt. I'm thinking of the scripture
over there in John chapter 18, when they came to arrest the
Lord in the garden, and the Lord stood forward and said, whom
do you seek? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
And he said, I am, I am. You know what happened? They
fell backward. Let them be turned backward and
put to confusion that desire my hurt. Now I don't want to
be numbered and found among that crowd, do you? confounded and
confused. By nature, that's what we are.
By nature, that's the way we're born. We're born confused. We're
born confounded. We're born with a shameful guilt
before God Almighty. I don't want to be numbered or
found among that crowd. And by His grace, God's people
aren't. Those that say, Those that make fun and ridicule and
scorn the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ at the power of
God unto salvation that say before God Almighty, we have no king
but Caesar. Away with him, crucify him. Let
them be turned backward for reward of their shame that say, we have
no king but Caesar. Can you imagine such a thing?
we have no God but Caesar now look at verse 4 let all those
now here's the here's another here's another group that all
those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee and let such
as love thy salvation let them say continually let God be magnified
let God be magnified. Now here's the crowd that I desire
to be found among, and it's only by His grace, because it's God
who has made us to differ. Without God's sovereign intervention
in my life, and in your life too, we would still be in gross,
dark, base idolatry. That's where I grew up. I grew
up in idolatry, and I dare say you did too. God saves us and
finds us in idolatry and saves us and delivers us by His grace.
I want to be found among those that are seeking the Lord. Let
such as seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee. those seeking
the Lord, those rejoicing in the Lord, those that love God's
salvation, those that say, let Him be magnified, let God receive
all the honor and glory both now and forever. How do you know
that the gospel of God's sovereign saving grace What is one of the
distinguishing features of the gospel of God's saving and sovereign
grace? How can you tell when the gospel
of God's grace is preached versus those who just preach and don't
preach the gospel of God's grace and truth? You know what one
of the determining factors is? Who gets the glory? Who gets
the glory? Is it all dependent upon God?
Or some of it dependent upon the creature? Now which is it?
The gospel of God's grace gives God all the honor and glory in
salvation, doesn't it? Let God be magnified. Now, who are these people that
are seeking the Lord, that are rejoicing in Him, that love God's
salvation? Who are these people? Well, they're
poor and needy sinners that have been delivered. They have been
delivered by God's grace. Poor and needy sinners who have
been delivered by God's grace. You see, believers are seekers. They are seekers. They seek to
know more. They know Him by a revelation
of God Almighty. God who commands the light to
shine in our hearts. Believers are seekers of the
Lord. They seek to know more about
Him. more about him, more of his person, more of his work,
more of his saving power. We want to see more of him, more
of him. Our Lord said this in Matthew
6, seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness
and all these things will be added unto you. Seek him as a
poor and needy sinner. You know those who seek him,
you know what, they find him, they find him. They find Him
to be gracious. They find Him to be all of God's
salvation. They find Him to be exactly who
He really is. Believers do seek the Lord. Secondly,
believers do rejoice in Him. They do rejoice in Him. As Paul
described the true Israel of God, we are the true Israel which
worship God in the Spirit, that rejoice in Christ Jesus, and
that have no confidence in the flesh. We do rejoice in Him. Rejoice in the Lord always, and
again I say rejoice. We can always find something
in the gospel to rejoice in. We rejoice in Him who was altogether
lovely. And the third thing he says there
in verse 4, believers do seek the Lord, they do rejoice in
Him, and believers are glad in Thee, And they love his salvation. They love, they flat love God's
salvation. Now let me give you four or five
reasons why, and I'll let you go with these five points here,
four or five reasons why believers love this salvation found in
Christ Jesus. Why believers love this salvation. Now here's the first one. Believers
love God's salvation because of the experience of it in their
heart. Now an experience is not salvation. Don't go back and try to find,
go back to some date and time and place and try to get some
kind of assurance from that. An experience is not salvation.
But salvation by God's grace is certainly something that believers
do experience in their heart. It's an invasion of God Almighty
in your heart. That's something you experience.
in your heart. It's a revelation of the glory
of God that's seen in the face of the Lord Jesus Christ. He's
hid these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them
unto babes even so father for so it seemed good in thy sight. You see, Christ in you, Christ
in you. That's what happens when God
saves us. He invades our hearts. our mind, our affection, our
will, the whole person. When he talks about the heart
in scripture, he's not talking about this organ here. He's talking
about our will, our mind, our affection, our understanding.
He invades all those things. And he takes up a residency in
our heart. For Christ in you is a hope of
glory. That's the experience of it,
and we love it. We love the Lord Jesus. And that's
not to say that we're trusting in experience. We're not. We're
trusting the Lord Jesus Christ. You know, we've tasted of the
Lord, and He is gracious. Here someone has fixed a nice
meal, and you know what they say? You ought to taste of it. It smells good, but you ought
to taste it. You see, believers have tasted
that the Lord is gracious. They've experienced it in their
heart. You see what I'm getting at?
They've experienced it in their life. The Lord is gracious. The
Lord is gracious. Here's the second thing, and
that causes them to want more of it. How many times has your
wife fixed your favorite meal? More than one time. Why does
she do that? Because you've tasted of the
meal and you want more. And believers can't get enough
of the gospel. They can't get enough of the
gospel of the Lord Jesus. The second reason is why believers
love God's salvation is, believers love God's salvation because
of the method of it. Because of the power of it. The
power of it. Remember what the apostle said
to the young preacher, reminding him, it's God who saved us and
called us with a holy calling, not according to our work, but
according to God's own purpose and grace, given us in Christ
Jesus before the foundation of the world. Believers love God's
salvation because of the power of it. What does it take to raise
a dead man to life? Not a mere invitation. Not a
mere walking down the aisle. That won't do. It takes power
to raise a dead man. Lazarus had been dead four days
and his body was corrupted and stinking. Now, invite Lazarus
to come forth. Invite Lazarus to make a decision
for Jesus. He can't. He's dead. What does
it take to raise Lazarus out of the grave? Power. Never man
spake like that man, his word was with power. You know what
it says over in the Psalms, one of the Psalms or maybe Proverbs
where the word of the king is, there's power, there's power. You see, we love God's salvation
because of the power of it. That's why Paul said, I'm not
ashamed of the gospel of Christ, the power of God unto salvation. You see, the kingdom of God is
just not word only. The gospel of God, when it comes
to a heart, doesn't come in word only. It comes in power. It comes
in power. The Holy Spirit. So we love the
power of it. We love God's salvation because
of the power of it and because of the method of it. The method
of it. Grace alone. Faith alone. Christ alone. to the glory of
God alone. That was the theme of the Reformation,
wasn't it? Christ alone, the Word of God alone. The method
and means of this salvation was devised and purposed by God in
eternity, accomplished in time when the Lord Jesus Christ came
and fulfilled it. In the fullness of time, God
sent forth His Son. In the fullness of the time,
God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law
to redeem them that were under the law. He really did actually
become a substitute for us, and did actually put away the sin
of God's people as our substitute, and He actually did make complete
satisfaction. Justice has been satisfied, the
law of God been honored, and Christ in Him crucified. Substitution
and satisfaction. He shall see the travail of His
soul and be satisfied. Satisfied. You know, in the gospel of the
Lord Jesus Christ, believers are satisfied with Christ and
Him crucified. But you know what's more important
than that? God is. God is satisfied with
all that Christ did for Him on our behalf. Substitution and satisfaction.
God made him to be sin for us who knew no sin that we might
be made the righteousness of God in him. Thirdly, believers
love God's salvation because of the sureness of it. Because
of the certainty of it. All the promises of God, we read
this in 2 Corinthians 1.20, let's turn and read that. All the promises
of God in him are, well, you know, it might work, it might
not. It's kind of a wishy-washy thing.
It just depends on if you hold out, you know. Are you still
holding out? Well, aren't you glad that salvation
doesn't depend upon us? Salvation is always dependent,
determined, and accomplished by the Lord Jesus. I want 2 Corinthians
chapter 1, turn there, verse 18. As God is true, our word
toward you was not Our preaching is the word. Notice the marginal
reference there. Our preaching toward you was
not yea and nay. Our message is not, our preaching
is not yea and nay preaching. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ,
who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silas and
Timothy, it was not yea and nay, but in him is yes. in Him is
yes. You see the sureness of it? The
certainty of it? Is there salvation in Him? Well,
you know, maybe. No? Yes! Yes? It's not yea and nay, it's
yes. For all the promises of God in
Him are yes, and in Him unto the glory of God. unto the glory
of God by us. Now he which established us with
you in Christ and hath anointed us is God who has also sealed
us and given us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. All
the promises of God in him are yet." Don't you love the certainty
of salvation in Christ Jesus? He said, I give my sheep eternal
life and they'll never perish. Believers love God's salvation
because of the certainty of it, the power of it, the method of
it, the revelation of it, the experience of it. We run no risk
as poor and needy sinners trusting the Lord Jesus Christ for all
of our salvation. His covenant is sure, isn't it? Remember the last words of David?
Ordered in all things and is sure this is all my hope and
all my salvation. The Lord Jesus Christ is called
the surety of the everlasting covenant. God, the God of peace,
who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep
through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in
every good thing. His covenant is sure. How about
His word? His word is sure, isn't it? Peter,
there in 2 Peter 1, talks about the sure word of prophecy. So his covenant is sure, his
word is sure, and his gospel is sure. Turn to Romans 4.16
and consider this verse here, Romans 16, let's read this verse,
Romans 4.16. all that God had promised, being
fully persuaded, all that God has promised, God was able to
perform. But look at Romans 4, 16. Therefore
it is of faith that it might be by grace, to the end the promise
might be sure, sure to all the seed. Now who's the seed? The
elect of God. seat of Abraham, that spiritual
elect. Not to that only which is of
the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who
was a father of us all. We love the sureness of the gospel. We love God's salvation because
it's certain and sure. Fourthly, we love God's salvation
because of the completeness of it. The completeness of it. Because of the perfection of
it. He has done for us a perfect work, a perfect work. This salvation
that's of the Lord is a finished work. Nothing needs to be added,
does it? Nothing, nothing needs to be
added. Nothing remains unfinished because the Lord himself when
he died proclaimed it is Finished he prayed in John 17 father. I've glorified thee on the earth.
I finished the work I finished the work you gave me to do Now
the Blessed Savior did not die to make salvation a possibility
for all if they will meet certain conditions That's not so The
Lord Jesus Christ died to secure and finish salvation for His
elect. Now we don't have an attemptment,
we have an atonement. And we don't have a theory of
atonement. If anybody ever asks you what
your theory of the atonement is, please answer them back,
we don't have a theory, we have an atonement. The Lord Jesus
Christ completely paid all our sin debt. We have an atonement.
He did not die to make salvation a possibility. He died to secure
and finish the salvation for God the elect. Redemption is
an accomplished work. He obtained for us eternal redemption. Righteousness has been established
in Christ Jesus. Blessed is the man whom the Lord
would impute righteousness without work. Reconciliation is perfected. God was in Christ reconciling
the world unto himself. And that's the world of his elect.
Not imputing their trespasses unto them, but have committed
them unto the Lord Jesus Christ. Redemption is accomplished. Righteousness
is established. Reconciliation is perfected.
And regeneration... How many times were you born
physically? One time. Now, regeneration is
a new birth from above. And it happened one time. One time. You're not saved and
lost and saved and lost and saved and lost. That's not so. God
saves His people, as we read a moment ago, with an everlasting,
with an everlasting salvation. He gives His sheep eternal life
and they shall never perish. God who has begun a good work
in you, Philippians 1, 6. God who has begun a good work
in you, He will complete it. He will finish it. In the day
of His power. I saved the best one for last.
The best one for life. Best of all, we love God's salvation
because of the Redeemer and the Savior Himself. We love Him. Now, we love Him only, only because
He first loved us. You see, He's made Himself altogether
lovely. To you who believe, He is precious. You remember that psalm we read
all the time and we quote, thy people shall be willing in the
day of thy power. You know how he makes us willingly
come to him? He makes himself irresistible.
He makes himself so lovely and so beautiful and so attractive
that we must have him at all costs. And we let go of everything
else and lay hold on him. by God given faith. To you who believe He is precious. You see salvation is not in a
profession, is it? Salvation is certainly not in
a pool of water, is it? Salvation is not in a place.
We don't invite you to come down front and kneel Salvation not
in a place. Salvation not in a profession.
Salvation not in a pool. Salvation not in a position.
Salvation in a person. Simeon said my eyes have seen
thy salvation. You remember that scripture over
in 1st John? Turn over there. 1st John chapter 5. 1st John
chapter 5. Salvation in a person. The Lord
Jesus Christ. 1 John chapter 5, verse 10. He that believeth on
the Son of God hath a witness in himself. He that believeth
not God hath made him a liar, because he believeth not the
record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record that God
hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life. He that hath not the Son of God
does not have life. These things have I written unto
you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may
know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the
name of the Son of God. Look at verse 20. 1 John 5, 20. And we know the Son of God is
come. He's given us an understanding
that we may know Him that is true, and we're in Him that is
true, even in His Son, Jesus Christ. This is the true God,
and this is eternal life. You see, back to the text. Let such as love thy salvation
say continually, let God be magnified. Surely all those who know Him
and love Him can say, him be all the honor and glory
both now and forever can say but of him are you in Christ
Jesus who God has made unto us wisdom righteousness sanctification
and redemption that according as it is written he that would
glory let him glory only in the Lord God forbid As the Apostle
said, God forbid that I should glory save in the cross, save
in the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. Can you say that in your
heart? You love thy God's salvation and that you glory only in Him,
in Him alone.
