How do we know that Free-will is limited by sin?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that after the fall, Free-will is inherently bound to sin and cannot will good without the aid of grace.

Luther explicates the concept of Free-will by emphasizing the necessity of God's grace for any good action to be performed. The will of man, after the fall, is not free but constrained by sin, reflecting a state of bondage. Passages like Romans 6:20 highlight how one has been set free from righteousness to serve sin. Luther argues that unless humans experience divine grace, no one can will or desire good. This dependency on grace is central to Reformed theology, illustrating that the natural man cannot choose God or righteousness due to an intrinsic servitude to sin. The transformation of the will into a true Free-will comes only through the Spirit's intervention.
