How do we know that salvation is done and cannot be earned?

Answered in 1 source

Salvation is fully accomplished by Christ, as stated in Hebrews 10:9, where He came to do the will of God once for all.

Hebrews 10:9 declares, 'Then said I, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God.' This verse emphasizes that Christ's mission was to fulfill the divine will, which included the complete atonement for sin through His sacrificial death. The idea of salvation being 'done' implies that there is no work left for man to perform to earn God's favor or secure his salvation. It wholly rests on Christ's obedience and sacrifice. The notion that we must do something to contribute to our salvation denies the sufficiency of Christ’s work and undermines the grace of God. Therefore, understanding that salvation is solely a work of God assures us that it is not contingent on human effort but rather firmly settled in the redemptive plan of God through Jesus Christ.
