What does the Bible say about captivity and freedom in Christ?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that Christ led captivity captive, freeing us from bondage to sin, Satan, and death through His work on the cross (Psalm 68:18).

Psalm 68:18 declares that Christ ascended on high and led captivity captive. This profound statement encapsulates the victory that Jesus achieved over our captors: sin, Satan, God's law, and death. In our natural state, we are completely bound and incapable of obtaining freedom or righteousness on our own. All humanity is under the curse of sin, as shown in Romans 5:12, where sin entered the world through one man, Adam. Christ’s sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection provided the means for liberation, allowing those who believe in Him to be set free from all that holds them captive. He has reconciled us to God, removing the barriers imposed by our sin and fulfilling the law's requirements, enabling us to enjoy true freedom.
