What does the Bible say about grace reigning over sin?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that grace reigns through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ (Romans 5:21).

In Romans 5:21, the Apostle Paul illustrates that just as sin has established its reign, grace is to reign through righteousness leading to eternal life. This signifies that God has decreed the reign of grace in the lives of believers, ensuring that sin does not retain dominion over them. Just as the Israelites cried out in their bondage and were delivered, Christians are promised deliverance from the pervasive bondage of sin through the sovereign reign of grace. This promises not just pardon, but the eventual subduing of sin as grace conquers every aspect of a believer's life.

The essence of this teaching is that grace must not only reign in the afterlife but is active and necessary in the believer's life here and now. Christians are to long for grace to have authority over their hearts and desires, recognizing that without it, sin would lead them to destruction. In this context, the reign of grace symbolizes not just a one-time event of salvation, but an ongoing process of sanctification enabling the believer to constantly look to grace for the power to resist sin and pursue holiness in their lives.
