What does the Bible say about suffering and prayer?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that in times of suffering, we should cry out to God in prayer, seeking His mercy and compassion.

The Bible clearly articulates the importance of bringing our suffering and troubles to God in prayer. In Psalm 102, the Psalmist expresses deep anguish and despair, crying out for the Lord's attention and mercy. He describes feeling consumed by sorrow, to the point where his strength fades and he feels utterly alone. This scripture teaches us that during our darkest moments, we are encouraged to approach God with boldness, pleading for His favor and comfort. God's compassion calls us to His mercy-seat, reminding us that He is always ready to listen and help us in our struggles.

Furthermore, the act of prayer is emphasized as an avenue for expressing our distress and longing for divine intervention. We are encouraged to be urgent and persistent in our prayers, appealing to God's character as the unchanging and eternal One. Reflecting on God's steadfast nature helps ground our hope and trust in Him during our trials. Thus, in our suffering, we are not only called to pray but to do so with the confidence that God cares for us and desires to answer our cries for help.
