All right, turn with me to 1
Corinthians chapter 11. 1 Corinthians chapter 11. And look
at the last phrase of verse 24. Our Lord said, this do in remembrance
of me. Tonight we're going to do something
in order to remember our Redeemer. And I'm the first one in line
praying that the Lord would cause me to enter into this with sincerity. You know what I'm saying? We're
going to do something in order to remember our loving Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ. We're doing this because our
Lord commanded us to. He commanded it. He said, look
at verse 24, when He had given thanks, He break it and said,
take, eat, This is my body which is broken for you. This do in
remembrance of me. He said, take, eat, this do. For true believers, this is not
a suggestion. Should I take the table? Should
I not take the table? It's not a suggestion. This is
a commandment. But we're doing this tonight
because it's a privilege. He said, as oft as you do it.
You know, you can't do it too often. It's a privilege. It's a great privilege. We're
doing this tonight because we love remembering the Savior of
sinners. We love remembering the friend
of sinners. We love being reminded that in
spite of our wicked sinfulness, there was one who was a friend
to us. And He showed us the greatest
love that could be showed to a friend. Greater love hath no
man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend. He said this do in remembrance. Now we're about to look at four
things. Four things we're going to remember. We're going to remember
the truth. There's a truth to remember. There is a request to remember. There is a promise to remember. And there is someone to remember. Alright, so the truth. Here's
the truth to remember. Turn with me over to Jeremiah
chapter 1. Jeremiah chapter 1. Verse 4 says, Then the word of
the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly,
I knew thee. Before I formed thee in the belly,
I knew thee. Our Lord, the one that redeemed
us, is the one that made us. He formed us, every single one
of us. All of our members were known and formed by Him. And before He ever formed us,
He knew every single thing about us. Every single thing. He said, before I formed thee
in the belly, I knew thee, I knew you. I knew everything there
was to know about you. And here's the truth to remember.
There was nothing good to know. There was nothing good to know.
We start with the truth every time, don't we? We heard it,
and by God's grace, we'll hear it again. There was nothing good
to know. Look at Genesis chapter two with
me. Genesis 2 verse 7 says, And the
Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into
his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
The Lord God, you know who that is? That's Jesus Christ. Jesus
Christ is the one who took some dust and he took his own two
hands And he started forming man. He formed us from the dust
to the ground. And then man was laying there
and Jesus Christ himself went. He breathed into his nostrils
and man became a living soul. He knows everything about us
because he's the one that formed us. He formed us with His own two
hands. He's the one that breathed that breath of life into our
nostrils and made us a living soul. You can listen to this
or you can turn to it, either way. But Ecclesiastes chapter
12 says, Ecclesiastes 12 verse 7. It says, Then shall the dust return
to the earth as it was, And the Spirit shall return unto God
who gave it. It's going right back to who
gave it. He formed us. He made us. He gave us our soul. Our God was so good to us. And look at what we did in return.
Go back over to Genesis, this time chapter 3. Genesis chapter
3. Genesis 3 verse 17 says, And
unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice
of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded
thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it, cursed is the ground
for thy sake. In sorrow shalt thou eat of it
all the days of thy life. Thorns also and thistles shall
it bring forth to thee, and thou shalt eat the herb of the field.
In the sweat of thy face thou shalt eat bread, till thou return
unto the ground, for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou
art, and unto dust shalt thou return." We sinned against the
God that made us. And he said, because of that,
you're going to surely die. That's what he meant. You're
going to return right back to the dust that you came from. Unto
dust shalt thou return. That's the truth to remember.
That's the sad truth to always remember. Because of that truth,
there is a request we need to remember. You're with me over
to Luke chapter 23. Luke 23, look at verse 39. And one of the male factors which
were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself
and us. But the other, answering, rebuked
him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same
condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we
receive the due reward of our deeds. But this man hath done
nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord,
remember me." Lord, remember me in your mercy. I'm going right back to the dust
of this ground. If God does not remember me, You know, we looked at this morning,
some will stand before Him and He's going to say, depart from
me, I never knew you. He doesn't remember them. And if God does
not remember me, I am going right back to the dust and worse than
that. Lord, remember me in your mercy.
Would you think about me? Lord, remember me in your election,
in your choice. Add me to your grace. Add me. I was talking to somebody about
the fact that sometimes we are so worried that maybe we're not
one of the Lord's. And then we find comfort in worrying.
Because if He had not done anything for us, we wouldn't fear God
and worry that maybe we're not one of His. But then we get scared
that we're too comfortable. So we start to worry again. And
then that worry reminds us maybe we are one of His. And it's a
never-ending cycle. Lord, add me to your grace. Lord, remember me. Wash me in
your blood. Lord, wash me in your blood. We meet together. I stand. I
preach. Lord, if I'm not one of yours,
save me. Remember me. Verse 42, he said unto Jesus,
Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. Lord, remember
me from your throne. Remember me in your sovereignty.
Remember me in your love. Lord, remember me in Christ.
Remember me in Christ. The request to remember. Remember
me, have mercy on me. That publican went into the temple
and the Pharisee had done everything right and he wanted to make sure
everybody knew it too. And he said, I'm nothing like
this publican. And this publican had done everything wrong. And
that publican went into the temple, and he wouldn't so much as lift
up his eyes unto heaven, and he smote upon his breast, saying,
God, be merciful to me. And the Lord said, I'm telling
you, that man went home justified. Blind Bartimaeus, I had almost
forgotten about him. I hadn't talked about him in
a while. That poor man sat there by the side of the road, Begging
all his life. Didn't do anything for anybody.
No help to nobody. And he heard that the one who
can do something is coming by. And he said, Jesus, thou son
of David, have mercy on me. And they said, be quiet, Bartimaeus.
And he said, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And
they said, he does not have time for you, Bartimaeus. And he said,
Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And they said, hush,
he doesn't want you. And he said, Jesus, thou son
of David, have mercy on me. And it says, the Lord stopped.
I love that. Here he comes passing by. And
a blind beggar says, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
And the Lord stopped. And he looked at him and said,
bring him to me. Lord, remember me. Have mercy
on me. Oh, have mercy on me. There is
a truth to remember. There is a request to remember. And thanks be to God, there's
a promise to remember. Go with me over to Jeremiah chapter
2. Jeremiah chapter 2, look at verse
2. Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem,
saying, Thus saith the Lord, I remember thee. I remember thee. I've got a margin
right there that says, For thy sake. I remember for thy sake. Our only hope is that He would
remember us. To all who hope for that, And
this is a wonderful truth. To all who hope for that, every
person that hopes that Jesus Christ will remember them, every
single person, who is not counting on the things they've done, so
confident in all their works, it does not matter if the Lord
remembers me or not, I'm good. I'm ready to go stand before
His throne. Every person who has zero confidence in that.
Every person who has done nothing right. Every person who says
my only hope is that He would remember me. Every person who
says that, He says to them, I remember thee. I remember for thy sake. Look at Psalm 78. Psalm 78 verse 37. It says, For their heart was
not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant. But he, being full of compassion,
forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not, yea, many a time turned
he his anger away. and did not stir up all his wrath,
for he remembered that they were but flesh. A wind that passeth
away and cometh not again. He remembered. He had compassion
because he remembered. They're just dust. Last week
we read Psalm 103. Psalm 103 verse 13 says, Like
as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that
fear him. For he knoweth our frame, he
remembereth that we are dust." What has he remembered that's
made a way for mercy? He forgave just because we're
dust? No. We're all dust. Every single human being born
is dust. What made a way for mercy? Go with me over to Lamentations
3. This has always been one of my favorite things. It's right
after Jeremiah, Lamentations 3. Now, this is Jeremiah writing.
Jeremiah wrote the book of Lamentations, but these are the words of the
Lord Jesus Christ. Look at Lamentations 3, verse
1. He says, I am the man that hath
seen affliction by the rod of his wrath. I am the man. I'm
the man that has seen affliction. Verse 2, He hath led me and brought
me into darkness, but not into light. That's Jesus Christ talking. The substitute for sinners. Everything
that God should have handed to me. All of the punishment. All of the judgment. Christ endured
that. And He said, He led me and brought
me into darkness, but not into light. That's separation from
God. Look at verse 12. He hath bent his bow and set
me as a mark for the arrow. He bent his bow at me. Verse
13 says, He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my
reins. I was a derision, that means
a mockery to all my people, and their song all the day. He hath
filled me with bitterness. He hath made me drunken with
wormwood. But he said in verse 19, remembering
mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall, my
soul hath them still in remembrance and is humbled in me. It's quiet in me. It's satisfied.
That's how God can look on worms. You know what worms are made
out of? Dust. That's how God can look on dust
and show mercy to it. Verse 19 says He remembers His
own affliction. He remembers every single thing
He went through. He remembers His own misery.
He said, I remember the wormwood and I remember the gall. And
remembering that, he remembers his own promise. There's a promise
to remember. That promise is Jesus Christ
and Him crucified. This is what happened. We were
all sinners. And we were destined for one
place and one thing. Hell and destruction, right?
That's the truth. And God the Father said to God
the Son, I will choose some of these sinners
and I'll give them to you. Do you know that we are his inheritance? He is ours. How blessed we are. But God, the father said, I'm
going to choose some of these centers and I'm going to give
them to you. And God, the son said, if you choose them, I'll
redeem them. And God the Spirit said, if you
redeem them, I'll call them. And a promise was made. A promise
was made in Christ. He is the one we are remembering. This is about Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ. God said,
when I see His blood, I'll pass over you. There's a truth to
remember. There's a request to remember,
there's a promise to remember in the one to remember. Go with me over to Acts chapter
4. Acts chapter 4 verse 10 says, Be it known unto
you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised
from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you
whole. This is the stone which was set at naught of you builders,
which has become the head of the corner. Neither is there
salvation in any other. For there is none other name
under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved." Whoever
does not believe that, whoever does not believe that with all
their heart, but believes that something must be added to that,
neither is there salvation in any other. Whoever believes,
something must be added to that. Some work must be done in addition
to the broken body and the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Whoever
partakes of this table, our Lord said, will eat and drink damnation
to himself, not discerning or seeing all their sufficiency
in the Lord's body. Don't do it. But whoever does
believe that, truly from the heart, whoever believes that
salvation is in no other, no other, if he has put that belief
in us, there is no other name under heaven given among men
whereby we must be saved. Whoever believes that, Jesus
Christ was made to be all I need, will partake of this table worthily. And by God's grace, let's do
this in remembrance of Him. In remembrance of Him. One of
these days, we are going to be singing, Worthy is the Lamb that
was slain. And although right now my flesh
is just so weak, this body is just so tired, by God's grace,
if He'll let us enter into this, One of these days we're going
to see His body and His blood has redeemed us from all our
sins. Thanks be to God, He endured
what He endured. Alright, let's remember this
together. Would you pass out the bread? Turn with me over to Matthew
chapter 27. I pray the Lord would let us
enter into this reading. Matthew 27 verse 1 says, When the morning was come, all
the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against
Jesus to put him to death. And when they had bound him,
they led him away and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
Now look at verse 11 with me. And Jesus stood before the governor,
and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the king of the Jews?
And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. And when he was accused
of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. You know
why he answered nothing? He was standing there for me.
And everything they accused him of, you know what he was doing?
Thinking about me. He opened on his mouth. Verse
13 says, Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many
things they witness against thee? And he answered him to never
a word, insomuch that the governor marveled greatly. Now at that
feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner,
whom they would. And they had then a notable prisoner
called Gabe Stoniker. I am Barabbas. Therefore, when they were gathered
together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto
you? Barabbas or Jesus which is called
Christ? For he knew that for envy they
had delivered him. When he was set down on the judgment
seat, his wife sent unto him saying, have thou nothing to
do with that just man? For I have suffered many things
this day in a dream because of him. But the chief priest and
elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas
and destroy Jesus. The governor answered and said
unto them, whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you,
They said, Barabbas. Pilate saith unto them, what
shall I do then with Jesus, which is called Christ? They all say
unto him, let him be crucified. And the governor said, why, what
evil hath he done? But they cried out the more,
saying, let him be crucified. When Pilate saw that he could
prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, He took water
and washed His hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent
of the blood of this just person. See ye to it. Then answered all
the people and said, His blood be on us and on our children. Then released He Barabbas unto
them. And when He had scourged Jesus,
He delivered Him to be crucified. Then the soldiers of the governor
took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole
band of soldiers, all of them. And they stripped him, and put
on him a scarlet robe. And when they had plaited a crown
of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right
hand, And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying,
Hail, King of the Jews. And they spit upon Him, and took
the reed and smote Him on the head. And after that they had
mocked Him, they took the robe off of Him and put His own raiment
on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him. And as they came out, they
found a man named man of Cyrene, Simon by name, him they compelled
to bear his cross. And when they were come unto
a place called Golgotha, that is to say a place of the skull,
they gave him vinegar to drink, mingled with gall, and when he
had tasted thereof he would not drink. And they crucified him
and parted his garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken by the prophet. They parted my garments among
them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down,
they watched him there, and set up over his head his accusation
written, This is Jesus, the King of the Jews." Brother Tony Moody
is going to pray for us. The Lord said, I have received,
Paul said, I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered
unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was
betrayed, took bread. And when he had given thanks,
he break it and said, take, eat, this is my body, which is broken
for you, this do in remembrance of me. In Matthew 27 verse 38 says, Then were there two thieves crucified
with him, one on the right hand and another on the left. And
they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, And saying,
thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days,
save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come
down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priest,
mocking him with the scribes and elders said, he saved others,
himself he cannot save. If he be the king of Israel,
Let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God. Let him deliver
him now, if he will have him. For he said, I am the Son of
God. The thieves also, which were
crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. Now from the
sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth
hour. In about the ninth hour, Jesus
cried with a loud voice saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani. That is to say, my God, my God,
why hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there
when they heard that said, this man calleth for Elias. In straight
way, one of them ran and took a sponge and filled it with vinegar
and put it on a reed and gave him to drink. The rest said,
let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. Jesus,
when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the
ghost. And behold, the veil of the temple
was rent in twain. from the top to the bottom. And
the earth did quake, and the rocks rent. And the graves were
opened. And many bodies of the saints
which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection,
and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Now when
the centurion and they that were with him watching Jesus saw the
earthquake and those things that were done, they feared greatly,
saying, Truly, this was the Son of God." Brother Chris, you pray
for us. After the same manner also, he
took the cup when he had supped, saying, This cup is the New Testament
in my blood. This do ye as oft as you drink
it in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this
bread and drink this cup, you do show the Lord's death till
he come. Let's stand together and turn
to hymn number 192.
