Story of the Lord Jesus Christ raising a dead son to life.
The Lord Jesus is still raising dead sons and daughters the very same way.
What does the Bible say about life after death?

The Bible teaches that Jesus has power over life and death, offering resurrection to those who believe in Him.

The Bible presents Jesus as the source of life and the one who has authority over death. In Luke 7:14, Jesus raises the dead son of a widow, demonstrating His compassion and power. This act symbolizes spiritual resurrection, emphasizing that all are dead in sin until Christ speaks life into them. In John 11:25, Jesus states, 'I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.' This assures believers that death is not the end but a transition to life eternal in Christ.

Luke 7:14, John 11:25

How do we know that God cares for the dead?

The Bible reveals God's compassion for the lost and the dead, as demonstrated through Christ's miracles.

Scripture frequently highlights God's concern for those in sorrow and distress. In the case of the widow at Nain, Jesus saw her weeping for her dead son and was moved with compassion (Luke 7:13). This action underscores God's attentiveness to human suffering. Moreover, 2 Peter 3:9 assures us that God is 'not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.' This divine desire for salvation reveals God's ultimate care, reaching out to the spiritually dead, calling them to new life through His Son.

Luke 7:13, 2 Peter 3:9

Why is it important for Christians to understand spiritual death?

Understanding spiritual death helps Christians grasp the necessity of Christ's intervention for salvation.

Spiritual death is a key concept in Reformed theology, emphasizing that all are born dead in sin (Ephesians 2:1) and unable to save themselves. This doctrine illustrates the great need for divine intervention; without it, individuals remain in spiritual darkness. Romans 5:12 explains that through Adam, sin entered the world and death through sin, affirming that all are affected. By recognizing the depth of our spiritual condition, Christians can better appreciate the grace of God, who resurrects us from our dead state through faith in Christ, thereby ensuring we proclaim His glory and mercy.

Do you know how a fellow would
sing if somebody came along and he's in a pit? And lifted him up. Luke chapter 7, read with me,
verses 11 through 16. And it came to pass the day after he went into a city called Nain.
Many of his disciples went with him, much people. And when he came nigh to the
gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out in his cup, the only son of his
mother, and she was a widow. And much of the people of the
city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her. And
he said unto her, Weep not. And he came, and he touched the
bier, the coffin. And they that bare him stood
still. And he spoke, he said, Young
man, I said to them, arise. And he that was dead sat up and
began to speak. And our Lord Jesus Christ delivered
him to his mother. And there came a fear on all.
And they glorified God, saying that a great prophet has risen
among us and that God have visited his people. Oh, may God visit
us today. Oh, my God, please visit us today. We have dead sons and daughters. No way. Verse 11 says the day after.
He just went, He just healed a man with a withered hand. Day
after day. Day after day. He did good. He healed. He healed all who
had need of healing. Scripture says day after day
utter the speech. Night after night uttered knowledge. What does it say? What does it
say? There's a popular slogan today. People put it on a shirt. Life
is good. That's blasphemy. That's worshipping
the creature rather than the creator who is God blessed forever. No, the Lord is good. Let the
redeemed of the Lord say, the Lord is good. God is good. His tender mercies are over all
His work. If your life is good, it's because
God is good. Right? Day after day. The day after. He went searching
for someone else. And He still is. I have hope. I have great hope for us and
our children. The gospel still being preached
this day. Today is the day of salvation. He went into a city called Nain,
verse 11, a city called Nain. What do you know about Nain?
Where's Nain? Anybody know where Nain is? You don't have a clue.
I don't. I didn't look it up. It's a little
insignificant place somewhere in Israel. That's where he went. What a blessed city! What a blessed city! Why would
God from heaven come to Nain, Capernaum, Nazareth? Nothing good in Nazareth. Well,
He was. Very few people know where Rocky
Mountain, Virginia is. Most people say, when you say,
I'm from Rocky Mountain, say, North Carolina? No, Virginia. Never heard of it. God has. God knows it. He has people there. Anybody know where Dingus, West
Virginia is? Raise your hand if you know where Dingus, West
Virginia is. One, two, three, four, five. There's a tabernacle of God there,
where God's people are, where the Shekinah glory of God is
found in a little place. You go into the hollers of amongst
the hills of Appalachia, and you'll find the Son of God there. God's people. Name. He went into name. What
an opportunity. Christ is there. What an opportunity. Somebody heard, the Son of God
is in name. If you needed Him, what would
you do? You'd go there. Name. That's where He is. Name. Oh, what an opportunity. What
a blessing. What a blessed city. Now verse
12 and verse 11, there weren't much people with him. His disciples
went with him. You see, wherever you find Christ,
that's where you'll find his disciples. They're followers
of the Lamb. Wherever he is, that's where
they go. Anybody know where Cottageville is? Raise your hand if you know
where Cottageville is in West Virginia. Six or seven. God knows where he is, and he
sent Christ there a long time ago. He foreknew it, for he was
called by his gospel, and he's still there. And there's a preacher
there no less sent by God than Moses. That's right. That's right. His name's Michael, and he's
no less an angel than the archangel. That's right. Most disciples went with him,
and much people, verse 12, when he came nigh to the gate of the
city, behold, there was a dead man, carried out, and carried out
to be buried, put away, and never see him again. Who was this man? Doesn't give his name, does it?
Not important. He's dead. Where did he live? It doesn't
matter. He's dead. What did he own? Did he own a
home? Was he rich? Was he poor? Was
he famous? How many people knew him? It
doesn't matter. He's dead. Right? How old is he? At fourteen he was young. Our Lord called him a young man.
He's young. He's at least thirty years old.
Maybe forty. That's young. Fifty is getting
young to me now. It really is. In the light of
my mother, ninety-five, sixty is young. Here's the point. It doesn't
matter how old he was. In Adam, all died. Old, young. You know this, but my best friend,
I pulled his dead body out of the basement room. He was 15
years old. My brother was 21. My sister,
42. That's young, isn't it? Young, old, young. We all die. The next chapter, this was a
son. The next chapter was a daughter. The next chapter, chapter 8,
a man's daughter died. How old was she? It doesn't matter.
She's dead. Who was she? It doesn't matter.
She's dead. How many friends did she have?
It doesn't matter. She's dead. What matters? Did the Lord know her? She knows the Lord. He's dead. He's dead. Now, he's dead. This
young man's dead. What does dead mean? What does
dead mean? It means dead, doesn't it? Barnard,
you say graveyard dead. This man's going to the graveyard.
What can he do? What can this dead man do? Nothing. Don't holler, preacher. People
don't know what dead is. You know, I often holler. Raise your voice to your children. Have your children ever been
in danger? One time my daughter was riding
on her little tricycle. She's about three years old,
two or three years old, riding on her tricycle. We lived on
a busy street in South Ashland, a busy street. Lots of cars and
all that. And our driveway went like this.
And we both had a fear, didn't we? She's on her little tricycle
riding. And that little tricycle's headed
toward that. Hannah! Huh? I ain't preaching to hear myself
preach. He's dead. Our Lord cried with
a loud voice when Lazarus was dead, didn't he? Lazarus, come
forth. He cried on that cross with a
loud voice. The whole world needed to hear
it, didn't it? It is finished. Son of man, lift up thy voice.
Lift it up with strength. Say unto the city, Behold your
God. Now people don't know there's
a God. They think they have a God. He's not God. They don't know
their grass. The grass withereth, the flower
fadeth. You need to hear it loud and clear, don't you? All flesh
is grass, the beauty thereof. So fade away, the flower. Young,
old, we all die. We all die. He's dead. He can't do anything.
What can sinners do? Nothing. Dead. It's up to the Lord. Now, when he came nigh to the
city, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother. Now, not only is her son dead,
but her husband is dead. And Adam all died. Everyone we
know, everything we have, will die if we don't die first. Right? It's just so. When are we going to wake up
to that fact? And we put all our hopes and all our dreams
and all our love and all our time on dead things. Her husband died. He's dead. Her son is dead. Who was her husband? What's his
name? It doesn't say. What did he own? Did he own a
home? Was he rich? Was he famous? It
doesn't say. It doesn't matter. He's dead. Did the Lord know him? He doesn't
say. I sure hope so. He's dead. You see, Adam all died. Over in Genesis chapter 5, it
talks about people living 800 years, 900 years. Methuselah
lived 969 years, didn't he? And he died. He still died. But old Hebrews 11 talks about
some and says, these all died in faith. That's how I want to die. In
faith. Because Christ said, he that
liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Do you believe that? Well, our Lord came. She was
a widow. A bunch of people was with her.
When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her. Verse 13,
He said unto her, Weep not. She's weeping. Oh, we live in
this veil of tears, don't we? This land of the valley of the
shadow of death, don't we? Death all around us. This is
our greatest cause for fear. All our lifetime we're subject
to this bondage of fear. Every human being has a fear
of death. Those we love die and we weep. And it's sad, isn't
it? We don't want to lose them, but
we do. God said it. We believe it. And
if He takes them, we still mourn, don't we? Husbands, wives, mothers,
blessed beloved mothers, fathers, we hold dear children. Even children
die. Some in here have lost children.
Couldn't be anything more. Painful and terrible, couldn't
it? We weep. Weep. The Lord knows that. Weep. She's
weeping over her dead son. This son was once the joy and
rejoicing of her heart. In the next chapter is a daughter.
She was once the joy and rejoicing of her father's heart. A son,
this son was once full of life. Her life, like Jacob with Benjamin,
her life was bound up in the land. He was a baby, this little baby
boy was born. Oh, the joy. I know something
about that joy. There's nothing more joyful,
except your own new birth. Or the birth of someone else.
Oh, the joy when this baby boy was born, or that baby girl in
the next chapter. Oh, what joy, what rejoicing
she had in this baby boy. And then he became an infant,
a little boy. You know, I love six months to
one year. I love that age. Don't you love
it? Oh, there's just everything about them. They smell good. They feel good. They look good. You just want to eat them. Don't you? Everything they do
and say, you just, wow. They goo and gah, and you do
too. You act like you give a damn. Don't you just love them? I mean,
really, babies. They grow into infants. You don't want them
to grow up, but they do. They become two years old, three
years old, four years old. You think, I didn't think I could
love them any more than that. You just keep loving them more
and more, don't you? Just love everything about them.
Oh, the joy, oh, the pleasure they bring you. This little boy,
this little lad, he becomes a lad. Brother Donnie Bell and I were
out walking one time in the woods, and his little Josh, his grandson,
was with us. He was about three years old.
Donnie had his rubber boots on, Josh had his rubber boots on.
Donnie had his Carhartt jacket on, Josh had his Carhartt jacket
on. We laid on the ground and everything that Donnie did, Josh
did. Donnie crossed his legs and Josh crossed his legs. I
looked over there and I said, this is wonderful. But Josh grew up and became a rebel. and don't want to be like his
daddy anymore. This boy, the next chapter, a
girl, gave his mother great joy. While he's young, she still has
hopes, dreams. He's at home. He seems happy. He's fairly obedient. He's still
at the table every day eating with them. He's watching him. He goes with her to the house
of worship. He comes to the house of God with her to worship the
Lord, to sing the hymns, to hear the gospel read. She believes
the truth, and she knows that the Word of God is able to make
him wise unto salvation. And she has this boy under the
sound of the Word, hoping, praying, wishing, pleading, begging the
Lord, Lord, it's up to you. If He's to be saved, if He's
to know you, you've got to reveal yourself to Him. And this is
how. You can reveal through your preacher, through your preaching
of the gospel. This is the power of God Himself.
Oh, Lord, speak to my son. Please. Or the man said, Lord,
the father said, Lord, speak to my daughter. Please, please
speak. She had hopes, she had fears,
and then the evil days. Scripture says, Remember now
thy Creator in the days of thy youth, for the evil days come
now. What days of those? Well, he
grows older, and he began to grow restless,
and he began to grow rebellious, and he begins to want out, out of the house. out of God's
house. Nothing in that for him. He wants
out into the world. He wants the world. And he goes
after it. Out from under his father and
his mother, or her, out from under her father and her mother,
their father's house, her father's house, his father's house, his
mother's house, out of the church house, these old religious people,
these old fashioned parents of mine out into the world, so he
goes. He goes out, 18, 19, 20 years
old. He leaves. He falls for the world. He falls for the wiles, the subtleties,
the traps, the pits, the snares of the God of this world, the
prince of the power of the air that worketh now in the children
of disobedience. He becomes a child of wrath,
even as others. This story is all too true. This
story is all too personal. This story is all too often. He falls in with the world, evil
companions, maybe marries an unbelieving woman or she an unbelieving
man. Leaves the God of his father
and the God of his mother. God never crosses his mind. When
he goes out, his mother and his father rarely cross his mind.
His dad dies. His dad dies. Does he come to
the funeral? My wife has two brothers, had
two brothers. One's dead, physically. The other's dead spiritually. Her mother died, and he comes
to the funeral. How selfish can you get? The one who bore you. How dead
can you be? His father dies. This young man's
father died. Does he go? I don't know. He
doesn't say. He goes back to the world. Maybe
he came. Maybe the grief lasted a little while, but it didn't
last long. He goes back to the world and he neglects his mother. He, and the next chapter is she,
only has a heart for the world, sin, and self. And now this young
man's mother weeps. What happened to my baby? What
happened to my little boy? What happened? He's gone. He's dead. And now she has no
communion with him. And this is the way it is with
those dead in sin. No communion. He's dead. Don't
have anything in common. He's dead. She has life. He's
dead. They can't speak. They can't talk of the same thing.
He now brings her no joy, only weeping, only sorrow. Something
awful has come between this mother and her son, or the father and
her daughter. Something awful has come between
them. Death. Terrible separation. They cannot
come to each other, because light can't have fellowship with darkness,
and light can't have fellowship with death. And Christ with Baal
can't do it. He's dead. His mother's still
alive. And so she weeps. She weeps. And Adam, what am
I speaking of? I'm telling you the truth. And
Adam all died. Every mother's son is conceived
in sin. That's what the Scripture says.
That's what this Bible says. Born dead in trespass and sin. Every father's daughter comes
forth from the womb, speaking lies. Every single human being
born to sinful parents has the seeds of sin in them. If they
grow up into young men and young women, if God doesn't do something
for them, If Christ doesn't come and touch them, if Christ doesn't
speak to them personally, they'll perish forever. They'll perish
forever. They will walk according to the
course of this world, all our children. If God doesn't do something
for them, they will walk according to the course of this world,
the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedient,
become his captives, captives to the world. And they will perish unless God
does something. Well, God visited this woman
this day. Was this chance? Did her son
deserve a chance? No. He brought her and everyone
else nothing but pain and suffering. No. The wages of sin is death. That's what we deserve. Oh, but God visited this woman
this day, and today is the day of salvation. Today, if you will
hear His voice, harden not your heart. As I said, this story
is all too real. I sat in a service just like
this, as a man just like me. I mean, very much like me. He
had my same name, and he spoke these very things, this very
message, and I was dead. But God. Verse 13, he came. When the Lord saw her, he had
compassion on her. When did he see this woman? Body,
when did he see this woman? When did he lay eyes on this
woman? Long before she saw him. Long before he looked on her
with His physical eyes. He saw her. Listen to this. David
said, Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect. And in Thy
book all my members were written, while there was none of them.
Oh, how precious this is to me! Thy thoughts unto me, O God!
How great is the sum of them! God foresaw this woman for whom
He did foreknow. He did predestinate. When we
predestinate, He comes calling. visited her. He saw her. He had compassion
on her. Turn with me to Psalm 86. Okay,
would you turn? If you have a dead son, a dead
daughter, a dead husband, a dead wife, if you're dead, turn. Turn. This is life. In darkness, this
is life for the dead. Listen to this. This is the word
of life. This is the seed of life. It may be, may be, may
be the Lord will speak through this word right here. I'm firing
arrows. Maybe the Lord will hit one of these home. Psalm 86.
Look at it. Bow down thine ear, O Lord. You
know, whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord will be
saved. Hear me, I am poor in need. Preserve my soul, I am
holy. O Thou, my God, save Thy servant
that trusteth in Thee. Be merciful unto me, O Lord,
for I cry unto Thee daily. Rejoice the soul of Thy servant."
He must have been weeping. "...Unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift
up my soul." Look at verse 7. "...The day of my trouble I will
call upon Thee. Thou wilt answer me." Verse 10,
"...Thou art great and doest wondrous things. Thou art God
alone." Verse 15, O Lord, Thou art God full of compassion, gracious
in long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. O turn unto
me, have mercy upon me, give Thy strength unto Thy servant,
and save the son of that handmaid." Was this woman
praying that? Was she calling on the Lord for
that? Would you say, Lord, I know, like Martha and Mary said of
Lazarus, Lord, I know that even now, even now, he's stinking,
he's been dead a long time, I know that even now, even now, he's
old now, but even now, you just say the word, Lord, speak. Save
the son. of thine handmaid, save the daughter
of thy servant." Please, Lord, please. I know you have a hope
in thy mercy. I've seen you have mercy on others.
Will you? He did. Look at this, verse 13. He came, and it says in verse
14, he came and he touched the beard. Touched the coffin. And they stopped. Those that
were carrying it stopped. Who was carrying it? Well, if
you die, they'll choose some pallbearers. And they'll really
be, if I die, they'll be pallbearers. But they'll be my friends. They'll
be my old buddies. They'll be my old cronies. Those that I live with, those
that are my friends, you know, they'll come to my funeral, and
they'll carry my dead body, and maybe they'll weep. Maybe they'll
be missing me. You know where they are carrying
me? To the grave, to the pit. And if this young man didn't
know the Lord, and his friends probably didn't know the Lord,
do you know where they are carrying him? Do you know where he is
going with them? Down into the pit. If the Lord
doesn't stop this procession, if the Lord doesn't lay his hand
on this young man's coffin and those that are carrying him down
with them, he's going to perish. And the Lord came this day and
stopped this. He laid His hand on this coffin. He said, without saying a stop,
He said, this young man doesn't belong to you. Don't you hope
He does this to one of our... This young woman is not yours. He says to the law, he's mine. He says to death, death, he's
mine. You can't have him. He says to
the world, He's not yours. He's not of this world. He's
mine. I've come to call what's mine. Oh, Lord God, come lay your hand
on the coffin of somebody in here this morning. This is not
a fable. This is true. We've got dead people under the
sound of my voice right now. Oh, Lord God, lay your hand on
their coffin. Stop their wild career. Say unto
them, hear the two shouts I come, and no further. You're not going
any further. You're going to hear me. Brethren, sisters, we have wept
for sons and daughters. And they have indeed taken them
to the grave. And they'd been buried out of
sight. And if they didn't know the Lord,
we have indeed mourned and wept and sorrowed without hope for
them. There have been many. You can be dead in the world
and dead in religion. As a preacher, do you know most
of our preacher friends have unsaved children? God plays no favorites. He saves
whom He will. And there's nobody without this
sorrow of a lost child or a lost... It says in Egypt there was not
one house where there was not one dead. Most everybody in this room has
an unsaved child. And the Lord knows. And what
He said to her, Weep not. She wept. She was weeping. And
we do weep because we love them. And weeping endures for a night.
And we're in this veil of tears. We're in this dark world, aren't
we? Aren't we? And we do weep. Sometimes all
night long. Sometimes every day we weep.
And weeping endures for a night. As long as we live in this dark
world for a night, weeping is going to endure. Yes, it is.
But here, I've got good news for you, ladies. I've got good
news for you. Joy cometh in the morning. When the Son of Righteousness
finally comes with healing, the former shall not be remembered
or come to mind. Weeping, no more tears. He is
personally going to dry your tears. Wipe away all tears from
your eyes. You have his promise. No more
weeping, no more tears. I told you about my dad taking
yet another person to the grave to bury them. And he said to
John Chapman, who was walking beside him, John led in prayer
as yet another died. And my dad said, I'll sure be glad
when they all stop dying. And who's next in this room?
Somebody. Somebody. And it's sorrowful.
We may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. But
our Lord delivered this young man and delivered her from her
sorrow. He touched this beard, this coffin. And look at this. Who did He
speak to? Verse 14, He said unto the young man who was dead, young
man, I say unto thee... He spoke to him personally. We love this thought, don't we,
Deborah, that our Lord never attended a funeral where the
person didn't get up and live. That's a good illustration in
it. Wherever the Lord is, there's life. If you're ever in the presence
of the Lord, if the Lord ever speaks to you, you can't stay
dead. So the Lord came. He touched
this mirror. He stopped this procession. This
young man belonged to Him. He said to these young men, stop.
And they stood still. You can't have this one. He's
mine. O death, where is thy staying?
O grave, where is thy victory? Thanks be unto God which giveth
us the victory. Thanks be unto God He chose us. He called us. Thanks be unto
God He gave us to Christ. We belong to Christ. for what's
his. And he lived, and he died, and
he was buried, and he rose again for our justification. No thanks
be unto God. See, salvation is up in the Lord.
We were dead, and you hath he quickened who were dead. How? He spoke to you. The gospel
is the power of God. He spoke to you. Young man, I
say unto thee, arise, arise. Only one can give life, it's
God, it's Christ. Only one can forgive sins, it's
God, and that's Christ. He is God. He is God. Only one
can save us, it's the Lord, Jesus Christ. And it says in verse
15, he that was dead sat up. I preached a message one time
on a young man saved after much preaching. Paul preached all
night long one time. There was a young man sitting
there, and he fell asleep. He couldn't take any more. He
fell out of the window and broke his neck and died. He died. And I thought I was
going to die sitting here, not knowing I was dead. A young man alive after much
preaching. Nobody's heard more preaching than I have. But God. Paul went down and fell on that
young man and cried and wept and called on the Lord. You know
what the Lord did? Raised him up. He sat up. We are young daughters
and you're young sons and every one of them are just laboring
just to let go. Fall asleep, you know. We never
would let Hannah go to sleep. Why? Why wouldn't we let her
sleep in church? Are we cruel parents? We want her to hear. There are
adults that fall asleep. That's worse. A whole lot worse,
isn't it? Oh, lighten mine eyes, lest I
sleep the sleep of death. Let us not sleep as do others.
Awaken us. Quicken us. According to your
Word. That's how He does it. Just right
here. Stay awake, Hannah. We'd say that. Stay awake. Sophie,
Isabel, stay awake. Helping, praying, calling on
the Lord, speak to her. Can you speak to a 12-year-old?
That's Isabel. Oh, yes. A 9-year-old, yes. Yes. Young man, I say unto thee, arise. And he did. He sat up. There
was a day when I was falling asleep. Micah sat up, talking
to me. I heard. This young man heard
for the first time. He heard. He began to speak. He began to
talk. Who did he speak to first? Who
do you reckon he spoke to first? The one who spoke to him. This
is how you know he's alive, brother. Whosoever shall call, not only
shall he say, they already have been. You don't call unless there's
life begun, right? The dead person doesn't call.
Who calls? One given life. That young man
said it and said, Lord, I've heard your voice. Lord, thank
you. Lord, Thank you for raising me. I once was blind, but now I see.
I once was deaf, now I hear. I was dead, but now I'm alive.
Lord! Paul was in dead religion. Saul
of Tarsus. Dead religion. Didn't know God.
Anybody in here? But God. One day, Christ came
where he was and said, Saul, Lord! And the Lord sent word to Ann
and I and said, go to the house of one Saul. He's a chosen one.
I've elected him. I've chosen him. Go preach to
him the gospel, because he's praying now. He's calling now. He's alive now. I've called him
from death to life. And how do you know? He's calling
on me. So this young man began to speak,
and he spoke to the Lord first. Somebody's been given life, begun
to be worked on by the Lord. His life has begun. They say,
Lord, have mercy on me. Lord, would you have mercy on
this sinner? Lord, I've sinned against God, against thee and
thee only have I sinned and done this evil in thy sight. Like
the prodigal son who came to himself. Why did he come to himself?
What does it mean he came to himself? God brought him to himself. God brought him to see himself.
God brought him to see what he'd done against God and against
his father. And what he'd done to himself,
destroyed himself. God brought him to see himself
where he was. Where? In a pit! In a pit! We've got a dear brother. If
I called his name, you'd know who it is. You'd love him dearly.
He's preached here many times. He's got a son. One son he loves
dearly. He's got a daughter. And they're both dead. They're
both lost. One is at the pinnacle of success.
He has it all. He has everything this world
has. He's rich. He has the finest home that money
can buy. He has a beautiful wife. She doesn't know the Lord. He
doesn't know the Lord. He's dead. He has a son, a grandson
of this preacher friend of ours. He's dead. He has a daughter.
This preacher friend of ours has a daughter. She's a crack. She's a meth addict. She's dead, but he is too. And he makes a pretense. Our
brother's wife died, and this boy came and did the eulogy,
and he made a front. He made a pretense of believing
this gospel. He did not believe that gospel.
He left the gospel. He doesn't hear the gospel. He's
dead. He's just as dead as this girl under crystal meth. Just
as captive to the world as she is to drugs. What's it going
to take? I'm going to take the Lord's
speaking time. He's dead. And so we pray. And so we weep. You know, the Lord told us to
weep. Weep not for me, He said. Weep for yourselves and your
children. Blessed are they that mourn.
Let your laughter be turned to mourning. Bless God our Lord came. to this
woman. I had compassion on her, and
He's still having compassion. He's still calling. He's still
calling forth the dead to life. Still speaking to sons and daughters,
dead sons and daughters. Still speaking to dead wives
and husbands. Still speaking to dead parents,
though they've been in religion all their life. He's still speaking
one way, one truth, one gospel, one power of God, Christ and
Him crucified. He's still speaking. Bless God.
And today, if you'll hear His voice, And he that was dead sat up and
he spoke. And look at this, I love this,
verse 15. And the Lord Jesus Christ delivered
him to his mother. She's got her son back! He speaks to her words that she'd
prayed for for years to hear him say. Mama, you reckon the
Lord would save a sinner like me? Mama, can I go to church
and worship the Lord with you? Mama, I'm an unworthy sinner. I'm no good. I've sinned against
God. I've sinned against you and Dad.
Would you forgive me, Mama? Daddy? She has her boy back. Words she'd longed to hear all
day. Dad, I'm sorry. Mom, I'm sorry. I'm unworthy. Sin against God. I'm not worthy to be a son. I
just want to be a servant. Can I come back home? Can I? And her son, though he was dead,
he now lives again. And it says in verse 16, there
came a fear on all, and they glorified God. Who did this?
What's it going to take to raise the dead? God. God's going to
have to visit His people. And if He does, if He doesn't,
it's the Lord. Can you say that? We have some
women in here that can say that. That's proof of life. That's
proof that they really do believe. Not my will, but thy will. They
prayed like our Lord in his greatest hour of sorrow, if it be possible,
let this cup pass from me. But he said, no, this is your
cup. And they say the same thing.
Lord, not my will, but thy will be done. But he's still having
mercy, though, on some, and whom he really hurts. But it's the Lord in us. So we
call on the Lord. We call. That's why. Because
it's the Lord. Oh, may the Lord be pleased to
speak, to use this word and speak to us and our children. Amen.
Brother John, you come.
