Luke 1:1-4

All of God's people believe the same things... things that are revealed to them by God. They believe these things and are sure of them. What things?
What does the Bible say about the certainty of salvation?

The Bible asserts that believers can know with certainty that they have eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ (1 John 5:13).

Scripture clearly states that believers can have confidence in their salvation. In 1 John 5:13, it is written, 'These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.' This verse emphasizes the assurance that comes from believing in Jesus Christ and highlights the importance of having faith in Him. The certainty of salvation is not based on our works or feelings, but on the unchanging promises of God and the completed work of Christ.

1 John 5:13

How do we know Jesus is the true Messiah?

The New Testament affirms Jesus as the Messiah through His fulfillment of prophecies and His resurrection (Luke 24:44-46).

The Bible provides numerous evidences that affirm Jesus as the true Messiah. In Luke 24:44-46, Jesus explains to His disciples how the Scriptures testify about Him, indicating that He fulfills Old Testament prophecies regarding His suffering, death, and resurrection. Historical accounts and eyewitness testimonies, such as those recorded by Luke, reinforce His identity as the Christ who came to save His people. The resurrection is a pivotal event that confirms Jesus' claims and divinity, providing believers with the solid foundation of their faith.

Luke 24:44-46

Why is understanding God's sovereignty important for Christians?

Understanding God's sovereignty brings comfort and assurance that everything happens according to His divine purpose (Ephesians 1:11).

God's sovereignty is a foundational doctrine that assures Christians that He is in full control of all circumstances. Ephesians 1:11 declares that God works all things according to the counsel of His will. This understanding fosters trust and hope, especially in times of struggle or uncertainty. Knowing that God has predestined all things for His glory and the good of His people reminds believers that nothing occurs by chance and that their lives are directed by a loving and powerful Savior who reigns over all. This knowledge encourages faithfulness and perseverance amidst trials.

Come from His people again. Gladly for A. We adore Him. That sums up what we just were
considering. Gladly for A. That means everything. We adore Him. Come to praise,
worship, and thank Him. Our God has done all things well. Someday we'll know, as we've
been known, and sing at the top of our lungs, from the bottom
of our heart, with a marvelous wisdom, amazing grace, to save
wretches such as we are. Luke chapter 1. Luke chapter
1. We've been through this gospel
before and we've come back and even looked at these first four
verses again and other verses. But like Paul said one time,
he said to write the same things. It's not grievous to me. And for you it's safe, salvation. Look at verses 1 through 4. For
as much as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a
declaration of those things which are most surely believed among
us, even as they delivered them unto us, speaking of the apostles
and others, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers,
preachers of the word, Luke says, it seemed good to me also, the
Lord laid it on my heart, having had perfect understanding of
all things from the very first. Some believe that Luke was one
of the 70 that the Lord set out. And I think that's in Luke chapter
10. It seemed good to me. That was
there from the beginning. To write unto thee in order, the most excellent Theophilus.
Nobody knows who Theophilus is. You know that? He's spoken of
in Acts chapter 1 to Luke, the one who wrote Acts. Theophilus,
who is he? He's a friend of God, but they
don't know who he is. Well, that's okay. This is written
to anyone that's a friend of God. That, here it is, here's why
we write this, that thou mightest know the certainty of those things
wherein thou hast been ascribed. The certainty. He said, we're
going to declare, I want to declare like others have, things which
are surely believed among all of us. We all believe the same
thing. and a writing others have that
you might know that these things are certain, sure and certain
things. What thing? What thing? Well, you can turn with me to
Luke 24. Go over to the end of this book.
I'm going to declare the end from the beginning. Okay. Luke
24. Our Lord one time was at the
at a well in Samaria, talking to a woman, and she said to him,
I know that when Messiah is come, who is called to Christ, that
he'll tell us all things. She said, he'll tell us all things.
And the Lord said, I that speak unto thee, am. Am what? All things. All things. Look at Luke 24, the disciples,
these disciples were walking on the road to Emmaus, and they
thought the Lord was still in the grave. Luke 24, verse 13,
Behold, two of them that day went walking to the village of
Emmaus, called Emmaus from Jerusalem, about three or four furlongs,
and they talked together of all these things. Which had happened. And it came to pass, while they
communed together in reason, Jesus Himself drew near and went
with them. But their eyes were holding that
they should not know Him. And He said unto them, What manner
of communication are these that you have one to another as you
walk and are sad? And one of them, whose name was
Cleopas, answering, said unto him, Art thou only a stranger
in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to
pass here in these days? And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him concerning
Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in deed and word before
God and all the people. The chief priests and our ruler
had delivered him to be condemned to death and had crucified him.
And we trusted, we hoped that it had been he which should have
redeemed Israel. And beside all this, today is
the third day since these things were done. Certain women of our
company made us astonished, shocked us. They said they were early
at the sepulchre. They found not his body, and
they came saying they had seen a vision of angels which said
that he was alive. And certain of them were with
us. They went to the sepulchre and found it even so, as the
women had said. But him they saw not. Then he
said, unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all
that the prophets have spoken. Ought not Christ to have suffered
these things, and to enter into His glory? And beginning at Moses
and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures
the things concerning Himself." What is this book all about? When I'm here to declare, and
this gospel declares, that this book is about Jesus Christ, dead
and crucified, buried, risen again. That's the things. That's the things that I am here
to declare today. The things of Christ. Things
most surely believed about Him among us. And that you might
know the certainty of those things. Alright? The things most surely
believe among us. The Bible begins this way. I'm not making a play on words,
the Lord wrote it this way. But Paul said one time to the
Thessalonians, see, and you know these things already. But he said, I'm going to tell
it to you again. Because these are the things that give us joy. The Bible begins this way. In the beginning, God. Those
are the very first words of the Bible, aren't they? Created.
The heavens and the earth. You know what the last words
of the Bible are? The end. You know what Jesus Christ said
of himself in Revelation 1? I am the beginning and the end. The first, the last, and all
in between. Listen to Colossians. In the
beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Everything started
with Jesus Christ, and it's going to end with him. It says in Colossians
1, Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn
of every creature, for by him were all things created. that are in heaven, that are
in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions
or principalities or powers, all things were created by Him
and for Him. And He is before all things,
and by Him all things consist. Christ is the Book. He wrote the Book. He is the
Book. It's called the Book of Life because Christ said, He
is life. He that hath the Son hath life. And this book is the story of
how Christ came to give his people life, who were dead in trespass. Not all for life. All right? Listen to 1 John 5. Let me turn there so I won't
misquote it. Listen to it. 1 John 5, he says,
he writes this, these things have I written unto you that
believe on the name of the Son of God that you might know that
you have eternal life and that you might believe even more fully
on the name of the Son of God. So Luke says, I'm here to declare
unto you those things most surely believe. Now, look at verse 1.
It says, many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration
of these things. Many. I love this verse in the
Psalms. David wrote it. It says in Psalm
68, it says, let me find it, Psalm 68, it says, the Lord gave
the word. He wrote the book. He gave the
order. And great was the company of
them that published it. Many. have taken in hand. But
now Peter said, no scriptures of any private interpretation.
But holy men spake as they were moved by the Spirit of God. God
told Moses, write a book. About what? Christ said, Moses
wrote of me. Wrote of me. About him. This
is a hymn book. This is a hymn book. This is
a hymn book. That's a hymn book. If it's a good hymn, it's about
him. And this isn't just a history
book, it's his story book. Right? You know that. You know,
going through those pictures, some people wouldn't be interested
in seeing those pictures. They don't know the people. They
don't love the people. Boy, we do. We never get tired
of them. Do you ever get tired of seeing
these pictures? I know some of you don't because I look into
your faces and you've heard these things over and over again. And
as soon as I mention like Esther, you smile. It's like looking
at a picture. Oh, look at that. If you love the Lord, you love
Him. You love to hear Him. You're never tired of hearing
Him. Many have set forth, taken in hand this declaration. The
hymn to give all the prophets witness. If he's a prophet of God, that's
who he's talking about. Apostles, what did they do? What
were the apostles doing? Testifying of the Lord Jesus
Christ, the gospel of Christ. Well, what does a pastor and
teacher do? They're sent to St. Juan. Sent them, what do they
do? The same thing. They're testifying the gospel
of the Lord Jesus Christ. If they're sent by God, that's
who they're talking about. That's why they're sent. That's
what God demands, and that's what the people need. They need
to hear it cried. They need to see Him. And they never tire of it. Paul
kept telling the story of how the Lord revealed Himself to
him everywhere he went. He told it over and over again.
One time, I think it was before Agrippa, he said, now tell me
again, Paul, what about it? He said, I'm just happy. It just
makes me happy to tell you. Paul said, I've determined not
to know anything among you save Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
Peter, John said that we can't help but speak of things we've
seen and heard. What things? Paul, Peter, Him! That's what
John said in 1 John. Him! We've beheld Him. We've handled Him. We've heard
Him live. We want you to know Him. So we're
preaching Him. Many, Luke says, I was there. Where? To hear Him. And I look at verse 1, he says,
it's a declaration of those things. Preaching is not an explanation
so much, but a declaration. A declaration. We're not saved
by reasoning, but by revelation. We're not saved by being convinced
of the truth, but being born of God. Born of the Word of God. We're not educated into the kingdom
of God, we're regenerated into the kingdom of God. And amazingly,
miraculously, like Pentecost, Simon Peter stood up and what
did he preach? Christ! A Christ that these wicked
people had taken and crucified, the Lord of glory, but did what
God, who is sovereign, reigning and ruling, determined before
to be done. And that God made that same Jesus
Christ who everybody rejected, who thought He was just Jesus,
that God had made Him Lord over everything. He was now seated,
reigning and ruling over everything that had breath, was in His hands. And it struck fear in them. Peter
didn't ask anybody anything to do anything. Didn't ask people
to come down front. Wasn't trying to convince anybody
of anything. Just declaring Jesus Christ, who He is, why He came,
what He did, where He is now. And sat down. And the Spirit of God moved and
broke everybody's heart over sin. We've rejected God. We thought He was just Jesus
to do with as we please. We now know He's the Lord who
can do with us what He pleases. We thought we knew Jesus. We
didn't know Him at all. Now we know He's Lord and we're
in His hand. We sure hope He has mercy. And the Lord broke them all.
And they came to bow at the feet of the Lord, not accepting of
Jesus. Bowing at the feet of a sovereign
Lord, begging for mercy. And God Almighty says every knee shall bow at
some point or another. And it's salvation to do it now
by God's presence. And every tongue will confess,
everyone that sees Him, sees themselves, what they are, sees
Christ, who He is, why He came, where He is now, in His hands,
to do with as He pleases, calls on the name of the Lord, confesses
their sin like those people. And the Lord has mercy on them. And they get in that baptistry,
and they confess Him before everybody. Say, I'm a sinner. God should
have crucified me, but crucified Christ, I hope, I pray, I believe
in my stead and my substitute. That Christ got what I deserve. And bless God, I believe He did
it for me. And I want to tell the whole
world that I need to die. I just need to die. And now I
want to confess in Christ who died for me. They all did it. Everyone that heard His Word,
received the Word gladly. Declaration, you see, just declared
it. Preaching the gospel is a declaration.
It's not a share session, it's not an explanation, it's not
an education, it's declaring who Christ is. That's it. And God in the power, you see,
we don't use persuasible work. Brother Ron read that on purpose,
didn't he? 1 Corinthians 2. You know, kind
of persuasible words of man's wisdom. If a man can convince
you of something, another man can convince you otherwise. But
if God breaks your heart, it's broken. If God puts Christ in
your heart, the love of Christ, a need for Christ, ain't nobody
can take it away. God opens your blind eye. You
now see and you see clearly. You never saw before. And nobody
can blind... Satan can't blind them again. as a declaration of things most
surely believed among us. Do you believe everything that
has been preached so far? All believers believe. What do
they believe? What do you have to believe to
be saved? Everything. What can't you believe? I don't
like that. I don't believe that. Believers are believers. Paul
said this. There was a time he didn't believe,
didn't he? Paul believed he was righteous. Paul believed he was
moral. Paul believed he was safe. Paul
believed he knew God. He didn't know God. He's like the woman at the well.
Really, he didn't know what he believed. But now, after the
Lord Jesus Christ confronted him and revealed himself to him,
Paul said, Then Paul said, after the way
they call heresy, that's how I worship. And I believe, and
the God of my father, and I believe all things written in the Law
and the Prophets. And I have hope toward God. And
my only hope toward God, he says, is Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Paul said, I used to hope because
I was a good this, I was a good that, because I did this, I did
that, because I was sincere, because I joined a church, because
I was baptized. Paul said, that's all done. Now
my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ's blood and
righteousness. I dare not trust anything, anyone,
but Holy Lane on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Yes, on
Christ the solid rock I stand. How about you? We believe the
same thing, don't we? Same one. Same one. Same one. We all believe the
same way. My parents had four children, different ages, three
boys and one girl. We all had the same father. That
same father taught all four children the same things. We all know
the same father. If somebody come along and said,
I know your dad, I'd say describe him. They'd say he's six feet
five and he has red hair. I'd say, you do not know my father. That's not my father. You ask
any of my brothers or my sister to describe him, they all describe
him the same way. And you know how I used to describe
my father, Elizabeth, when I was a little child? He's a hundred
feet tall. He can do anything. You want
me to describe my God? Is this your God? He not only
can do everything, He does everything. He worketh all things after the
counsel of... What? Whose will? Man doesn't
have a free will. My God has free will. And man
does according to His will. Is that your God? Do you believe
that? That's God. I mean, that is God. That's what
this book says. All of God's children know that. Why? They've been born of God.
Let me just settle down here a little bit. Well, I love this. Do you? Can I lift up your God
too much? Can I shout this too much, your
God? Don't you want the world to hear this? Say unto my people,
by God reigneth. Aren't you glad that there's
none higher, none greater, that nobody's in control of anything?
Aren't you glad? Aren't you glad your salvation
is 100% in the hands of Jesus Christ? Not you. It's not left up to you. Aren't
you glad? Brethren, it's true, it's all
true what I'm saying. Because He's true. All the promises
of God are in Jesus Christ. And our yea and amen to the glory
of God. By us. We all know the same God. Now, if that's not somebody's
God in here, you don't know God. Because that's who He is. Right, children? Children of
God? Brethren? Describe your God. Ask any child
of God to describe their God. They'll tell you. He is God. He doesn't want to be God. He
is God. Right? Ask them, did you make Jesus
Christ Lord? No, He made me know it. He made
me know He's Lord. I didn't think He was. I didn't
know Him. I was blind. I was dead. He raised me. from the
grave. Look at verse 2. It says, they
were eyewitnesses and ministers of the Word. These declared this
were eyewitnesses. Brethren, so are we. So am I. So are you. Simon Peter said this. He said, oh, in 2 Peter, he said,
we haven't followed cunningly devised fables when we've made
known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He said we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. He said we were
there on the mountain when He received from God the Father
honor and glory, and there came such a voice to Him from the
excellent glory saying, This is my beloved Son in whom I am
well pleased. Simon Peter and James and John
heard that voice and they saw Christ's glory. I have too. Haven't you? And that's why Peter said, we
have a more sure word of prophecy, where until you do well, people
in here have not heard His voice yet. They haven't seen His glory
yet. Why do I know that? They haven't gotten that pool
yet. There's no light on their face. When you come down from
the mountain, having seen Christ's glory, you'll be like Moses. The light of the glory of God
in the face of Christ will show on your face. And I look into
the faces of some, not there yet, and I hope and I pray every
day, Lord, open their eyes, open their eyes. One of these days,
maybe, maybe, hopefully, I see, I've heard. And He said, you
do well to take heed unto a light that shineth in a dark place,
until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts. I hope and pray that somebody
will stay under the gospel, and in God's good time, they'll hear
His voice. Because Christ said, My sheep
hear My voice. How do they do that? How do they
hear that voice? Well, I'm doing it right now. He said, I heard
it. I did. One day, I've told you
this so many times, but I never get tired of it. I never cease
to be amazed by these people. That's just my dad. I've known
him all my life. It's just my dad. But one day, sitting listening
to the gospel, it was God speaking to me. I'm not lying. And here I am, telling the same
thing. And one day my daughter was sitting
right there. And I'm just her dad. But one
day, the Lord spoke to her. Because that's what He does.
That's how He does it. That's why He came. Luke, he said, I'm going to set
in order these things. Declare in order how these things
came about. He's going to start with the
birth of our little Luke. And he's going to end with the
resurrection and the ascension of our Lord, and seated at the
right hand of God. He's going to start with a lowly
birth. That's not where he started, but that's where the gospels
start. But I started in the beginning. God created me. But you see,
why did Christ come? He was sent by the Father. He was with the Father in the
beginning. The order of things is that Christ being with the
Father, Proverbs 8, in the beginning, dwelling, before there was a
word ever, before anything. This is the order of things. God the Father and God the Son
and God the Holy Spirit. These three are one. They purposed
in their will and mind this thing of redemption, of a kingdom,
of people. And Jesus Christ is going to
be the head of that, going to be the elect of that, going to
be the king of this kingdom. God said, I'm going to create
all things for him, by him. And a people just like him to
be with him, be his bride. Can I say all this in ten minutes?
No way. What took eternity? to design and to fulfill. But before the world, okay? Alright,
so God predestinated every single thing about this kingdom. Predetermined
every single thing. Barnard used to say that writhes
or wriggles. Down to the particle of dust
in the The sunshine comes through the wind and you see all that
dust. The path of every particle of dust lands exactly where God
predetermined for it to land. Someone said, that's ridiculous.
No, that's God. You say, I don't believe that. I do. I most certainly do. One little germ can kill you,
can't it? If God's not in control of it,
He has no control. Right? One atom that splits wrongly
is a bomb. Do you believe that? I was sitting
the other day thinking about the great mystery of creation
and everything and those very things. Why this? Why that? And
when we try to reason things, why did this happen? We look
at evil. We look at terrible things that happen, calamities
and this and that. I don't understand. What could
this possibly happen? We can't understand God. Any
more than a dog can understand us. Right? We can't. But the fact is, you don't want
a God you can understand. That means He's just like you. We need one that's so infinitely
above us. His way is pacified today. He knows everything that we don't
know. We think, I'd change it. No,
you can't change that. It's like threads of a tapestry. Oh no, no, you can't change a
thing. It's all been designed. And we look at a mass of, like
the back of a Tapestry, we look at a mass of threads that have
no connection. We think this is just a jumbled
mass of chaos and confusion. On the way, no, turn it over.
You know what you'll see? A face. A face. Jesus Christ. To the praise of the glory of
His grave. That's what it's all about. I
just hope we're oversimplifying it, but that's it. It's all about
Him. And Christ came, sent by the Father, to
bring in this everlasting kingdom, to deliver man from this curse.
God chose every single person He would save. He had to. You can't leave it up to chance. That means He didn't know who
was going to show up. Oh, no. No, no, no. He chose
a people in Christ before the foundation of the world and gave
them to Christ. You know why I know they're all
coming? God chose them. God justified them. And Jesus
Christ died for them. Jesus Christ came. He's a good
shepherd. He's a great shepherd. He's a chief shepherd. He came.
He said, I know my sheep. I have known of mine. I have
come. I lay down my life for my sheep. I call my sheep. They're
going to hear my voice, and I'm taking them home. When I find
them, I'm taking them all the way home. I'm not going to put
them down one step of the way. I'm going to carry them all the
way home. Is that your Christ? Brethren, I have no hope of making
it if that's not Christ. I was going to go through Tulip
with you. Somebody came up with an acrostic, you know, that declares
the truth, and there is no truth without any of it. Because man's
dead in trespassances, okay? If he's dead, he can't choose
God. Christ said that. No man can come unto me. Didn't
he? Isn't that what Christ said?
No man can come unto me except the Father which hath sent me
draw him. He said, all that the Father
giveth me shall come unto me. Who gave them. My Father gave
them me before the world began in that covenant of grace. I'm
the head of that covenant. I'm the shepherd of the sheep.
I have come to call my own. They're given, they're elect,
that's what they are. If anybody denies that, they're not in the
kingdom of God. That's the truth, isn't it? That's
where it all started. Alright? They're dead in trespassing.
Christ said, I have come, not to offer life, to give them life. They're dead. Lazarus! Would you like to come forward?
Anybody that wants to. Dead people. Would you please?
I'm offering you life. You say that's ridiculous. So is this false gospel. It doesn't give Christ all the
glory, you see. All the glory belongs to Christ who said to
his people, come forth, Mary, Robin. He knows their names. He comes and finds them where
they are. And bless God, they hear Him. And they come forward. Master. And they're His forever. Ain't that good news? If He called
you, you see the gifts and calling of God are what? Without repentance. Though we're a bad wife, He'll
never divorce us. That's my Christ. That's the
Christ. Is that your prayer? Is that
your hope? Well, Christ died for them. Limited atonement, particular
redemption. It's the whole story throughout the Old Testament.
The high priest of old there went into the Holy of Holies
with what? Names. Who? The whole world? No, sir. Israel. He made an atonement. That's
the story of the whole book illustrating to us that Jesus Christ came
for his own. He died for his people. Particular. I prefer the term particular
redemption, meaning he did it for a particular people and it's
redemption that redeems. It's not an attemptment, it's
an atonement. It's not an offer, it's a full
payment. Is that your gospel? If it's
not, you don't have any hope. No hope. If there's one thing
left for you to do, you're hopeless. If it's your faith, you're hopeless. There's a time when I don't feel
like I have any faith. How about you? We're saved by
His faith. Boy, I love this. Love this,
all right? Doctrine? Oh no, it's not doctrine. This is Him. It's what He did. It's who He is and what He did.
A declaration of who He is and what He did. Alright? Irresistible
grace. You're looking at an object of
God's irresistible grace. I ain't coming. Yes you are. I won't believe that. Oh yes you will. That ain't in
the Bible. I'll prove Him wrong. He'll prove
you wrong. It is in the Bible. Irresistible grace. Aren't you
glad that grace is irresistible? Oh, we resist. That doesn't mean
we don't resist it. That means when he comes and
calls me, you're coming. You're coming. Oh, brethren,
that's my hope for our lost loved ones. I've preached. How many messages have I preached
to you? Whoever, and they still don't know the Lord. Am I a failure? No! I'm just
doing what I'm told to do. Okay? Is the Word a failure?
No! Somebody's come, and somebody's
going to keep coming. As long as this gospel is still
preached, somebody's going to come. Who's it going to be? I
don't know. He knows. Known unto God are
all His works from the beginning of the world. It has this foundation,
the Lord knoweth him that are His. And I'm hoping and praying
that every person in this room, young and old alike, belong to
Him. But if they do, one of these
days, whether it's me preaching or whoever it is, Mike, John,
they're going to hear His voice. And they're going to come. And
they're going to say, how was I so blind? Never heard a thing. After all
of them, I never heard a thing. I hear. Now I hear. Irresistible grain. Perseverance
of the saint. I like Brother Crabtree's word
better, don't you? You heard it. Brother Bruce Crabtree. Country fellow. Not much education. Eighth or ninth grade, I think.
Used to drive a garbage truck. Boy, God used nobodies to bring
to nothing people that are. What can a garbage man tell us?
Everything. Everything. He that is of God
knoweth all things. Didn't he read that? Brother
Bruce, not knowing what he said, but maybe he did know what he
said. He talked about the perseverance of the saints. Perseverance. He combined the
word preserved with persevere. You know why the saints are going
to persevere? Because they're preserved. You have any preserves at home?
Who did it? Did they do it? Did they preserve
themselves? That's what the Scriptures say.
That's what the Gospel said. Under them they're reserved.
Preserved. But bless God, they're going
to persevere. Here's a good illustration, I think. Once I had Hannah when
she was a little girl, one year old, in my arm. And we were somewhere. I know where we were. We were
in Detroit, Michigan. And we had a friend that lived
there. What's your name? Rick. Had a
friend that lived there. That's where he's from. He got
here as fast as he could. But anyway, Detroit, Michigan,
and this fella, Clare Sharon, he was Catholic. Okay, he was. The Lord revealed himself to
him. But he wanted to take me and
show me that cathedral there, one of the biggest in... Anyway,
so we went in. I don't know the name of it.
But we went in there. I had Hannah in my arm, one year
old. You know, as soon as we walked
through that door, she... She grabbed hold of me, scared
to death. Scared her to death. Mike, you've
been there. All those gargoyles. It's full
of evil spirits. Revelation talks about this,
full of every foul bird and unclean thing. Yes, sir. She, that little
out of the mouths of bays, she clung to me with all her might. She laid hold of me. Don't let
me down, Dad. You know what? It scared me too. I laid hold of her. Alright,
who's holding who? Is her hold of me? Her salvation? No. I'm holding her. But how
do you know that I'm holding her? She's holding me. Does that
make sense? How do you know people are preserved
of the Lord? Because like Jacob, I'll not
let you go until you bless me. Lord, I'm laid hold of the hope
that's set before me to the end. And you know why we're going
to lay hold to the end, Brother John? Because He's held us. Because we're kept by the power
of God to salvation. Oh, I had so much more to say. These things, that you might
know the certainty of these things. Let me close with this illustration,
okay? One more, alright? And it's a
good one. Somebody in here really appreciates it. But there was
a woman that I talked about that met our Lord at a well, and she didn't She was a sinful woman, didn't
really know it though. Been married five times, living
with them. And she was religious. She went
and our fathers, she said, worshipped in this mountain, Mount Zion
Baptist Church, whatever. First missed the church of the
mountain. She went to church. Alright, one day she came to
the well. Same old, same old, every day, kept coming to the
well, bring her water pot, same old, same old, go to church,
come back to the well, go to church, come back to the well.
One day, the Lord Jesus Christ was waiting on her. And the first
thing he did was convict her of her sin. Go call your husband. I don't have a husband. Yeah, you've been married five
times, you're living with me. She said, but I'm religious. I go to church. Our father's
worshipping. He said, you don't know what you worship. You don't
know who you worship. She didn't know him. She said,
well, when Christ has come, he'll tell us all things. I am. You know what she did? She dropped
her water pot. She dropped her water pot. And
she dropped her own religion. She dropped her profession of
faith. She dropped her baptism. She dropped everything she thought
she knew about God. She dropped that man she was
living with. She dropped everything and everyone. Why? She said,
everybody's got to come see who I saw. I've met the Christ. This is the Christ. That's what
God does for every one of His people. He made her thirsty. He said, Lord, sir, give me this
water. I want this water. And he did.
And she didn't need a water pot. She had it in her. Oh, I hope
and pray the Lord do that for every person in this room. Those
listening, otherwise. All right, let's sing a closing
hymn. Brother John.
