I pray the Lord will enable us,
as it says over here in that 23rd and 24th verse, John chapter
4, the Father seeketh such to worship him in spirit and in
truth. I want to do that, don't you?
I want to do that, and I want us together We read Scripture,
we pray, we sing these hymns that glorify the Master, and
we do all that to set the table for worship and preaching the
Gospel and worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ. And think about
this for just a moment, and then we'll get to the text here. There
is no true spiritual, true worship apart from the truth. apart from Christ who is the
truth, apart from the truth of the gospel being declared. You can't worship in spirit and
in truth and worship the God in the power of the Holy Spirit
without the truth being declared, without knowing God who is true,
the God of all grace. Now, in John chapter 4, we find
a woman in need of mercy. And I'm entitling the message
from the words that she, after the Lord had revealed himself
unto her, entitled it that I put to the message as found in verse
29, where the woman goes back to her city, back to her people.
She's not the same woman. I mean, she's the same person,
but she's not the same woman. Something happened to this lady.
God invaded her heart, her mind, her being, her person, and she
says, come and see a man. He is a man, but he's so much
more than just a man. He's a God-man, the God-man mediator,
which told me all things that ever I did. Now, here's the title,
Is Not This the Christ? Is Not This the Christ? That's a good confession. You
know, the scripture said in 1 John 5, Whosoever believeth that Jesus
is the Christ is born of God. Something happened to this woman.
She went to the well that morning to get some water for the daily
chores. She didn't know it was going
to happen. But I tell you this, the Lord of glory had been ever
mindful of her. He so arranged this meeting from
all eternity. The Lord was taking His journey.
He'd been in Jerusalem and He's taking His journey back to the
north. And He's going through this country,
this land of the Samaritans. The Jews despise these people.
As this lady confessed to Jews, you know, they have no dealings
with us. We're just sinful people. And really, if you look back
at the Samaritans, you know, they were They were actually implanted
there from the king of Babylon, way back during the captivity
time. And the Jews just despised these
immigrants that were there in their land, and so they would
try to go around that land of Samaria, although it was in the
direct route back to Galilee. But the Lord says there in verse
4, He must needs go through Samaria. There's a must here. There's
a need here. He must need to go through Samaria. Now, oftentimes we think about
just this woman, just this woman in need of mercy. But I want
to show you something here. Look over at verse 39 in this
same chapter. You know the Lord had many sheep
in that area? For it says there, many of the
Samaritans, verse 39, of that city believed on Him for the
saying of the woman. Which testified, he told me all
that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come
to him, they believed him that he would tarry with them. They
besought him rather than he would tarry with them. And he abode
there two days. That was a two day revival. Look
at the next word. And many more believed because
of his own word. I mean, this woman did, but there
were many more. The Lord, remember what Paul
told, or the Lord told the Apostle Paul about Corinth. He said,
when he was getting ready to leave, he said, don't depart
for I have much people in this city. And many more believed
because of his own word, verse 41, and said unto the woman,
now we believe not because of thy saying, but we've heard him
ourselves and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior
in this world. He is the Savior. So the Lord
not only had this one sheep of Christ. You know, we don't even
know her name. She's just known as the woman
at the well, or the woman of Samaria. We don't even know her
name. But I tell you, if you did know her name, the foundation
of God stand assured having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that
are His. It says over here in John chapter
10 that He knows His sheep by name, and He calls them out. Zacchaeus, come on down. Matthew, follow me. You see, the Lord calls His people
because He knows them, and He crosses their path. And he does a work of mighty
grace in their heart. You know, this is this is a conversion
story of this this woman. But, you know, it's my conversion
story, too. This is what the Lord. This is how this is how
the Lord cost my time with the gospel truth. The Lord invaded
my heart with his person. and how the Lord exalted himself
in my heart, and this is my confession. He is my Savior. He is my Christ,
my anointed prophet, priest, and king. That's my story, and I'm sticking
to it. I'm going to change it. The Lord
crossed my path with the gospel truth. What a blessed, blessed
gospel we have. Now let me tell you a few things
about this lady. Her life was a mess. I mean,
her life was a mess. She's messed up. Her life was
in turmoil, tumult and turmoil. She'd been married five times,
living with a man that wasn't her husband. She wasn't seeking the Lord that
day. Now she did the rest of her life. But she wasn't, she
wasn't like Nicodemus. She wasn't even religious as
far as we know. I mean, she, she had some religious
inklings because she, when confronted with her sins, she runs to her
refuge. But she wasn't zealously religious
like the Pharisees and like the Jews. She was a Samaritan. She
wasn't a religious fanatic like Nicodemus. She wasn't going about
to establish a righteousness of her own. She was a sinner. Yet the Lord of glory was seeking
her out. The Good Shepherd was on the
trail of one of his sheep. The Lord was going to call her
that day out of darkness into his marvelous light, translate
her out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God's dear
Son. Her name is not even given, but the Lord has known her from
all eternity. We see the Lord of glory going
through this city to call out His sheep. Now, do you reckon
He's going to be successful? Turn over here to John chapter
6, just a minute. You see, the Lord in a mighty,
powerful, glorious way Irresistibly, effectually, invincibly draws
us to himself. And you know how he does it?
I'll tell you how he does it. He makes himself so lovely. And
he shows us our need of him so greatly that we say in our heart, he
is altogether lovely. I must have him. I must bow to him. Thy people shall
be willing in the day of thy power." In John 6, look at verse
37. John 6, 37. All that the Father giveth me
shall come to me, and him that cometh to me I will in no wise
cast out. For I came down from heaven not
to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this
is the Father's will which has sent me, that of all which he
hath given me I lose nothing. I lose nothing. Raise it up again
at the last day. And this is the will of him that
sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son and believeth on
him may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the
last day." He's not going to lose one of his covenant sheep,
one of his covenant people, the sheep of his hand and the sheep
of his pasture. He will not lose one of his sheep. Will he be successful calling
this lost sheep to himself? Oh, yes. Oh, yes. But we read
in Scripture that he cannot fail. He cannot fail in anything he
does. Our God is not a failure. Failure
is not a possibility. With God, all things are possible. All things are possible. He's
always victorious. He's never defeated. He's never
disappointed. He always wins the day. He always conquers his people. Well, we see several things here.
In verse 4, down in the following verses, he must need go through
Samaria. Every sinner whom the Lord is
pleased to save, he saves them on purpose. Purpose. That blessed word, purpose. He
never saved a sinner by accident. Everything God does, He does
with an eternal purpose in Christ Jesus. The Lord chose the time
to meet this woman. High noon. The sixth hour. The Lord chose the place of this
meeting. Jacob's Well. The Lord even sent
His disciples away to buy some groceries. He controlled everything. So
he could be alone with this woman. The Lord even called this woman
to come to the well to draw water. And guess who was sitting on
that well? I mean, when she came to the
well, here's a stranger sitting where I need. Would you please
move so I can get some water? And there he sits. And there
is God Almighty. sitting on a whale. And look
at this, what it says in the scripture, being weary with his
journey. Tempted and tested in all points,
like as we are yet without sin. He wearied with his journey,
a real man. And he thirsted, he says to the
woman, give me the drink. He even directs the conversation
here. He controls every aspect of what's going on, all the circumstances,
the time, the place, what they're even going to talk about. This
is true in every believer's experience of grace. There's no accident
that the Lord crossed your path with the gospel of His grace. You being here today, it's no
mere accident. You just didn't stumble in this
back door. Or this door up here. You're here by purpose. God's
purpose. God has an eternal purpose. And
that scripture that we often quote, where Paul writes back
to young Timothy and said, God saved us and called us with a
holy calling, not according to our work, but according to His
own purpose and grace. His purpose and His grace are
married together. His purpose, an eternal purpose,
which He purposed in Christ Jesus the Lord, and His sovereign grace.
They are married together. You can't separate it. Purpose
and grace, they're married together. And it's so. And here's the second
thing. The Lord creates an interest
in her. Verse 9. Then saith the woman
of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, Ask a
drink of me, which I'm a woman of Samaria, for the Jews have
no dealings with the Samaritans." The Jews have no dealings with
the Samaritans. I thought about this. You know,
those Jews, so self-righteous, so full of religious pride, Thank
God I'm not like, you remember the Pharisee prayed in the temple?
Thank God I'm not like that pubskin over there. So self-righteous,
so self-centered. They wouldn't have any dealings
with these Samaritans. But aren't you thankful that
the Lord Jesus Christ is called the friend of sinners? Aren't
you thankful that the Lord Jesus Christ didn't come to call the
righteous but sinners unto repentance? Aren't you thankful that the
Scripture said this is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation,
that the Lord Jesus Christ came to save sinners? I'm the chief
offender? I'm the chief of sinners? Thank God for His mercy in Christ
Jesus. Now, look at the Lord's answer
in verse 10. The Lord said to her, if you knew, if you knew the
gift of God, oh, if you just knew, God is gracious, merciful,
long-suffering. If you just knew, wouldn't you
ask? If you just knew who this man
is, who this one is, if you knew, Wouldn't you ask? Well, sure
you would. And that's what he's saying.
If you knew the gift of God, the gift of God. Salvation, my
friend. I know you know these things.
Salvation, it's good to be told again, isn't it? To be reminded again. Salvation
from the beginning, from A to Z, Alpha
to Omega. Salvation is all of the gift
of God. The gift of his mercy, the gift
of his love, the gift of his grace. If you only knew that
salvation was a total free gift of God. If you knew who was standing
in front of you, Lord of glory, you would ask. He would give
that living, living water. Salvation is totally the free
gift of God. Totally the free and sovereign
gift of God, if you knew. and who it is. If you knew the
gift of God and who it is, you would ask, and He would give. You have not because, what's
that scripture? You have not because you ask
not. This book says that mercy is
in the Lord Jesus Christ. Wouldn't it be a wise thing to
seek mercy where it's found? If you knew, you would ask, and
He would give. Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable
gift, His unspeakable gift. The wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We're justified freely by His grace through the redemption
that is in the Lord Jesus Christ. The free gift of God, God who
spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall
He not with Him also freely give us all things? Oh, my friend,
salvation is the gift of God, the free and sovereign gift of
God. And if you knew, if you knew
that, and you knew your need and who it is that gives and
gives and gives, you'd ask. He would give. Whosoever shall
call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Now, read on. And the woman said,
in verse 11, Sir, you have nothing to draw with,
and the well is deep. What is this living water you're
talking about? See, she's totally in the dark.
He doesn't understand anything that's going on at this point. Art thou greater than our father
Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof of himself,
and his children, and his cattle? The Lord Jesus Christ Himself
is the living, living water and the gift of God. The reason of
Christ giving the gift of salvation unto his sinful people is not
found in the sinner, but in the Savior, in his everlasting mercy. Now, her response reveals that
she's still in ignorance. The natural man does not understand
the spiritual things of God. She goes back to the natural
thing, saying, well, the well is deep and you don't have anything
to draw with. And then she says, like this
statement in verse 12, she said, Are you greater than Jacob? Now,
think about this a minute. She's talking to Jacob's God.
She's talking to Jacob's Savior. Are you greater than Jacob? You
know, he dug this well, he drank of it. Oh, yeah, a greater. greater than Solomon is here.
He's the greatest. He is our great God and Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, look what the Lord says
in verse 13. Whosoever drinketh of this water
will thirst again, thirst again. Natural water will not satisfy
God. Natural water won't meet the
need. Natural water will not put away
our sin. You drink of this water, you're
going to thirst again and again and again and again and again.
The ceremonies of men, the traditions of men, the rituals of men will
never satisfy the holiness of God, will never Satisfy a guilty
conscience will never quiet a guilty conscience. You thirst, you drink
of this natural water, you're going to thirst again and again
and again and again. But, verse 14, there's this word
again we run into, but, but God, whosoever drinketh of the water
that I shall give him, shall never thirst." Now you see the
comparison again between that which is natural, carnal, physical,
fleshly, thirst again, thirst again, thirst again, never enough,
never enough, more, more, more, never satisfied. And then, but
what I give, never thirst. Never thirst. But the water that
I shall give him shall be in him a well of water." In him. In you. Christ in you is a hope
of glory. But the water that I shall give
shall be, that I give him shall be in him a well of water. A
well of water springing up into everlasting water. Go back to
John chapter 6 one more time. John chapter 6 one more time. Look at verse 35. The Lord said,
I am the bread of life. He that cometh to me shall never
hunger. He that believes on me shall
never thirst. Never thirst. Remember Isaiah
55? Turn over here to White. While I'm thinking about Isaiah
55, turn over here to Revelation 22, the last chapter of the last
book. Our Lord said, Ho, everyone that's
thirsty, come to the water. He that hath no money, come and
buy and eat bread, wine, milk, out money without price. Free,
a free gift. Revelation 22. Look at verse
17. And the Spirit and the bride
say, Come. Let him that heareth say, Come.
Come. Come unto me, all you who are
laboring and heavy laden. I'll give you rest. Come to me.
Come. And let him that is athirst, come. And whosoever will, let
him take of the water of life freely. Freely. Freely. Now back to the text. Whosoever
drinketh of this water that I give in him shall never thirst, but
the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water
springing up into everlasting life. Now look at verse 15, back
in John 4. The woman said to him, She addresses him in a respectful
manner. Three times she uses this word,
sir. The woman said to him, sir, give me this water that I thirst
not. Neither come hither to draw any
more. She's still thinking on a natural
plane. I don't want to have to come.
If I can have indoor plumbing, Well, I don't have to come this
well anymore. If you can just kind of put that into the house
where we can just have running water and I don't have to come
with that, boy, that'd be good. I kind of think that's what she's
thinking about. That I don't have to come and
draw water anymore. She still doesn't understand
salvation is a gift of God. She still doesn't see her need
of mercy in Christ Jesus. Now, look what's going to happen. Here's the third thing. presents a problem. You see,
there has to be a conviction of sin before there's a conversion. There's got to be a stripping.
There's got to be a putting in the dust. There's got to be a
slaying by the Holy Spirit and a conviction of the Holy Spirit
before there's repentance, faith, and redemption. There's got to
be a stripping before we're clothed with the righteousness of Christ.
That's what's going to happen. The Lord presents a problem,
confronts her with her sin and convicts her. Not only of her
sin of adultery, but there's something else that's mentioned
in this too. Idolatry. The Lord said, verse 16, will
you go call your husband and we'll talk some more about this
water. Now, the Lord knows exactly what he's doing here. You see,
he knows all about this woman. He knows more about her than
she does. He knows our thoughts are far
off. He's acquainted with my sitting
down, my standing up. He's acquainted with all my ways. And the woman said, well, I have
no husband, verse 18. Thou hast well said, I have no
husband, for thou hast had five, and the man that you now have,
or you claim is your husband, is not thy husband, and in that
you said right." And then she says, I perceive your prophet. Go call your husband. The Lord
exposed her sin, past and present, exposed it to her. And this is
what the Lord does when he crosses our path with the gospel. He shows us what we are. What
we are. Sinners through and through.
Sinners by birth, born in sin, shaped in iniquity. Sinners by
choice. We love darkness, not light.
Sinners by practice. When I would do good, evil is
present with me. We've all sinned and come short
of the glory of God. And the Lord convicts us and
convinces us. You like to stand up here all
day and read Scripture and read Scripture and tell you how sinful
we are. But I can't convince you that you're a sinner. But
I tell you, God the Holy Spirit does. And He shows us what we
are. And He shows us what our need
is. Turn over here to John chapter 16. John chapter 16. We'll never cry out for mercy until we know we need mercy,
need Christ to put away our sin. What it says in John 16, when
He, the Holy Spirit, has come, verse 8, He will reprove the
world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment, of sin, what I am, because they believe
not on me. Of righteousness, what I need,
the Lord our righteousness. Because I go to my Father, you
see me no more of judgment. What does our sin deserve? What does our sin deserve? Judgment. If the Lord sent you to hell,
would He be doing right? And me too? Exactly so. That's what I deserve. I want
mercy. I beg for mercy. But if I get
what I deserve, I'm gone. A judgment. My sin deserved judgment. Thank God the Lord dealt with
us. in a substitute Jesus Christ.
Put away our sin. Judged our sin in the blessed
Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, look back at the story again. In John 4, verse 19, the woman,
when she's confronted with her sin, she does the very thing
that most of us did. And what most people do. The
woman said in him, verse 19, I perceive, I think you're a
prophet. She turns to her religion, she turns and she begins to be
a religious person all of a sudden. Verse 20, she said, Our fathers
worshiped in this mountain and you say in Jerusalem is a place
where men ought to worship. I've seen this happen so many
times. When someone is confronted with the truth. They're irreligious. They have no interest in the
gospel truth. They're irreligious. And yet,
when you get nose-to-nose and face-to-face and tell them the
truth of God, what do they do? They run immediately, well, I
know when I made a decision. I know when I joined the church.
I know when I got baptized. You see what this woman was doing?
She's running to her refuge of lies to try to hide. It's not
going to work. Our fathers worshiped in this
mountain. You say in Jerusalem is the place where men ought
to worship. I kind of get the idea. She's saying, well, you
know, it really doesn't matter where
we worship, whether it's outside or inside. It doesn't matter. There are many ways. We're all
going to the same place. We're just going different ways,
as many people say. This lady has the same attitude. It really doesn't matter. Does it? Oh, yes. Oh, yes, it does. Look what the
Lord does next in verse 21. The Lord here is going to expose
her idolatry now. He said to her, verse 21, Woman,
I like this statement here, Woman, believe me. Woman, hear me. I kind of get the sense of what's
going on here. Will you just hush? It's almost
like shut up. Woman, believe me. Hear what
I've got to say. I'm going to tell you the truth
what worship is and what you need. Woman, believe me. Hear my word. Be swift to hear,
slow to speak. The hour is coming soon when
you... I think this is personal to her.
The hour is coming when you shall worship neither in this mountain
nor yet in Jerusalem around Judaism. You're going to be a true worshipper
of God. You worship, verse 22, you know
not what. You know not what you worship.
You know ignorant worship. Ignorant worship is what? Ignorant
worship is idolatry. We know who we worship. That's
what the Lord says there in verse 22. You worship you know not
what. We know what we worship for salvation
has been revealed to God's people. Salvation has been revealed to
God's people. God's covenant people had the
word, had the priesthood, had the biblical law, had the tabernacle,
they had the gospel in type, picture. Salvation is of the
Jews. The Lord delivered the message
of the gospel in type and picture all through the Old Testament.
We know who we worship. Salvation is, and it's saying
this, salvation is of the Lord. Salvation is of the Lord. Verse
23, the hour cometh. The hour cometh, and now is,
when the true worshipers..." Now, what's going to happen to
Jerusalem here in just a few years? What's going to happen
to all that temple ceremony and all those things? What's the
Lord going to do to Jerusalem and Judaism? Is He going to come
in there directed by the armies of Rome, and He's going to flatten
this place? He's going to do away with this
place. You see, my friend, the law of God is fulfilled in the
Lord Jesus Christ. He tore that veil top to bottom. The hour cometh, now is, when
true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit, the power
of God the Holy Spirit, and in truth. The Lord Jesus Christ
said, I am the truth. I am the way. For the Father
seeketh such to worship Him in spirit and in truth. God is a spirit, verse 24, they
that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Where the gospel of God's grace
is denied and the truth, the truth that salvation is of the
Lord, where that's denied, where the blessed gospel of the glory
of Christ is discredited and ridiculed and scorned, There's
no true worship there. Not where the gospel is denied
and not believed. And those who participate in
believing the lies of men, that salvation depends upon you, is
there any true worship going on there? Not at all. The Father seeketh such to worship
in spirit and in truth. Now, in closing, look at this. The woman said to him, I know,
I've heard that the Messiah is coming. And when he has come, I know that Messiah is coming,
he's called the Christ. When he has come, he will tell
us all things. Now listen, look at the next
line. And the Lord said to her, I that
speak to thee Am. Am. Notice the H-E's been added. I am. I am. I know when the Christ comes,
He'll tell us all things. I am. I know when the Christ
comes, He's going to fulfill all things. I am. The Lord Jesus
Christ is. He is. The I am. I that speak to Thee am He. Christ is the one who came. The
Lord Jesus Christ came to put away sin by the sacrifice of
Himself. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
one who came to bring us to the true and living God, to deliver
us from our sin, deliver us from our idolatry. The Lord Jesus
Christ is the one who came to honor the law of God for us and
to give us a perfect righteousness through His obedience, through
His faithfulness, not ours. You see, the gospel is hidden
to the natural man. I that speak to thee, I am the
Messiah. Now, here's a revelation of the
glory of God that's revealed to her. I am. I am. He's hid these things from the
wise and prudent and revealed them unto his babes, even so,
Father, for so it seems good in thy sight. Now notice this in closing, verse
28, 29. When the disciples came back,
they marveled that he talked with this woman, had anything
to do with her. But they didn't question a word. They didn't
say a word as to what he was doing. Yet no man said, what
seekest thou or what talkest thou with her? Now look at verse
28. Here we see, here we see the
evidence Two things here. We see the evidence of something
taking place in her heart that was supernatural. God revealed himself unto this
woman and she forgot about getting water. The woman then left her
water pot and went her way to the city and said to the men,
come and see. A man which told me all things
that ever I did, is not this thee Christ?" A needy sinner met the Almighty
Savior face to face, and the Lord changed her. If any man
be in Christ, he's a new creature. Old things are passed away, and
behold, all things have become new. When the Lord deals with
us in saving mercy, in saving grace, we'll drop the water pot
of works, ceremony, ritualism, experience, feelings, emotion. We'll drop everything. As Paul
said, I count all things but law, that I might win Christ,
it's the Christ, and be found in Him. Not having my own righteousness,
which is of the law, but that which is through the faithfulness
of the Lord Jesus Christ. Have you ever dropped your water
pot? Are you still going to the well and thirsting it again?
Are you still carrying around in your bucket your works and
presenting them to God and saying, well, look, my bucket's full?
Thirst again, thirst again, thirst again. My friend, throw the water
bucket away. Throw the water bucket away.
and looked to the Lord Jesus Christ for all of salvation. She confessed. She threw the
water pot away. And that's what God does when
He crosses our path, strips us, clothes us, makes us new creatures
in Christ Jesus. We'll forget about the water
pot. The water pot of religious experience. Oh, I made a profession
back then. Forget it. You know, the Scriptures teach
us looking, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our
faith. The Scriptures teach us to whom
coming as unto the Lord. It's a present, ongoing process
within us. Drop the water pot. Look to the
Lord Jesus Christ right now and confess. That's what she did. She confessed to the Lord Jesus
Christ publicly. She wasn't ashamed to own the
Lord, was she? She went into the city and told
the men, come and see a man. Is not this the Christ? He told
me all things. She publicly, she dropped the
water pump and she publicly confessed the
Lord Jesus Christ. Turn over here to John chapter
6. And that's what God does in saving
mercy. How do we confess that God has
done that work of grace in our heart and confess that the Lord
Jesus Christ is all of our salvation and all of our righteousness
before God? Well, it's a public confession. And the Lord has
ordained believer baptism where we confess Christ publicly as
all of our salvation. all of our hope. You remember
in John chapter 6, verse 66, from that time, many of the disciples
went back and walked no more with him. When he declared unto
them that no man can come unto me except the father which sent
me, draw him. When he declared the sovereignty
of God, salvations of the Lord, many who were following him because
of the loaves and fishes, they quit. From that time, many of
his supposed disciples went back and walked no more with him.
They quit, turned away. The Lord said to the twelve,
will you also go away? Simon Peter answered and said,
to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal
life. We believe. And we are sure that
thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. Turn back
to Matthew 16. Peter confessed this on more
than one occasion. Matthew 16, 16, Simon Peter answered
and said, Thou art the Christ. Whom do you say that I am? Verse
15. Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the
Son of the living God. And the Lord answered and said,
Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood hath not
revealed it unto thee, but my Father, my Father which is in
heaven." A confession. This is the Christ. This is the
Christ. She publicly confessed and owned
the Lord Jesus Christ as all of her salvation. I want to read
in your hearing one more time, verse 41 and 42 of John chapter
4. Salvation is a revelation, the
glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. And it says in verse
41 and verse 42, many more believed because of His own Word. They believed His Word. It wasn't
the miracles. Those who were following Him
because of the miracles quit. They believed His Word. He said,
Heaven and earth will pass away. My Word will never pass away. Many more believed because of
His own Word and said to the woman, Now we believe not because
of thy saying, for we have heard Him ourselves. And no, this indeed,
this is indeed the Christ. Not another. Is there salvation
in any other? Huh? No other name under heaven given
among men whereby we must be saved. This is the Christ. Is that your confession? Is that
your conversion story? God crossed your path. Crossed
your path with the truth. Revealed Himself unto you. You
cast away your water pots. And you confess, He's my Lord. He's my Savior. He's my Christ. He's my all and in all. May God be pleased. You know
that woman that day, she came to the well not knowing what
was going to happen that day. She went home. She went home
rejoicing in the Lord. I don't know the case of all
you folks here. I can tell by the countenance
on the face of many of you that you indeed had this same experience
this woman had. And you're here today worshiping
the Lord. There may be some here that came here without confessing
Christ. Still holding on to the water
pot of works, denying that He is the Christ. Wouldn't it be
a marvel of God's grace if you could go home today rejoicing,
rejoicing, confessing, He is my Lord, He is my Savior. God grant it to be so. God grant
it to be so.
