All right, this morning let's
turn in our Bibles to the book of Luke. Several of you, for which I rejoice,
have confessed the Lord Jesus in baptism this past two weeks. And I feel like my message this
morning will be of encouragement to you, and strengthen you in
the assurance of faith in Christ. Now, the title of the message
is, My Name is Written in Heaven. Now, notice I didn't say, Is
My Name Written in Heaven? I said, My Name is Written in
Heaven. That's the title of this message,
My Name He is written, that's assurance, confidence, not in
myself, in my Redeemer, because He said, my name is written in
heaven. And my church is Lutean. If you'll
turn there in your Bibles, let me give you a little, a little
information about this chapter first. Our Lord had chosen and
ordained twelve apostles, the twelve, and gave them gifts and
power and special authority to go forth and preach the gospel.
But in this chapter, Luke 10, verse 1, says, After these things
the Lord appointed other seventy, also seventy, and sent them to
and to before his face into every city and place whether he himself
would come. He sent them out to acquaint
these people of these different cities and places where he would
be preaching. He sent these disciples to acquaint
them with what he would be preaching, the kingdom of God. We see that
down in verse 8. They acted something like John
the Baptist, who came preaching. You remember Isaiah 43, verse
3 says, he came preaching, the forerunner of Christ. Prepare
ye the way of the Lord. Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Make straight in the desert a
highway for our God. Now verse 8 here in Luke 10 says,
And into whatsoever city you enter, and they receive you,
eat such things as are set before you, and heal the sick that are
therein, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come now unto
you. The kingdom of God has come now
to you. So he sent them out into these
cities where he would be going. to prepare the way of the Lord. And these seventy went out, and
they, having completed their mission, in verse seventeen,
they returned. Now look down at verse seventeen.
These seventy, having completed their mission, returned to the
Lord and gave an account of their journey. It says in verse seventeen,
they returned again with joy. In spite of the hardships they
suffered, in spite of the difficulties they encountered, in spite of
the ill treatment they received, they came back happy. They returned
with joy. What were they happy about? Why
were they filled with such joy? Then he tells us, Lord, even the devils are subject
to us through your name." This seemed to give them the greatest
of joy. They were successful. They healed
the sick, they cast out devils. Even the demons are subject unto
us through your name. They were so joyful and happy
with their success. Well, how did the Lord receive
this? Well, look at verse 18. He said to them, I beheld Satan
as lightning fall from heaven. I'm talking about a long time
ago. I'm talking about before the
creation of the world. I'm talking about before the
morning stars sang together. I'm talking about before Adam
and Eve were ever created. I beheld Satan fall from heaven. This is not news to him. that
the devils would fall before his name. This is not news to
him that the devils are subject to them through his name. All
principalities and all powers and all spiritual wickedness
in our place is a subject to him. He has all authority and
all power in heaven and earth. He said, I've been here as lightning from heaven. You
see, Satan at one time was named Lucifer, and he was a prominent
angel. In fact, as far as I can discover,
there are only three angels named in the Scriptures. There's Michael,
and there's Gabriel, and there's Lucifer. And Lucifer seems to
be one of the most prominent and most powerful, and most beautiful. He's called a day star. And our
Lord saw him fall. If you turn to Isaiah 14, the
Scripture gives us of that fall. I don't know how many angels
fell with him. I know that many did. I'll show
you a clue in a few moments. But here in Isaiah 14, verse You have it, Isaiah 14, 12, How
art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning? O day star, that's what it's
called, O day star. How art thou fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning? How art thou cut down to the
ground, which did weaken the nations? For what was he seeing? What was Satan, what was Lucifer
seeing? You said in your heart. You said it in your heart. Whether
he said it aloud, I don't know, but he did say it in his heart.
I will ascend into heaven. What's he talking about? He was
already in heaven. But he said, I'll exalt my star,
my throne above the stars of God. I'll sit upon the mount
of the congregation in the skies of the north. I'll ascend above
the heights of the clouds. I will, five times. I will, I
will, I will, I will, I will. I will. That's the essence of
evil. I will. That's the essence of
evil. That's the sum of evil. What's
the essence of holiness? Thy will. Satan said, I will. The Lord Jesus Christ said, Thy
will be done. But notice this last line. He
says, I'll be like God. I'll be like God. That's what
he said to Eve. You'll be like God. That's how
he deceived her. She wanted to be like God. She
had the same thing in her heart, somehow. That was the beginning
of the end for Satan and the beginning of the end for mankind.
I will be like God. No, verse 15, thou shalt be brought
down to hell, to the sides of the pit. Now there was angels
that fell with him, turned to Jude 6. Our Lord said, I will
heal Satan's arm as lightning from heaven. It says here in
the book of Jude, verse 6, and the angels, in the book of Revelation,
it talks about that star, that great star that fell from heaven. It talks about a third of the
host, perhaps so. But it says here, this we know,
and the angels which kept not their first habitation, their
first estate, that they followed Lucifer and left their own habitation. God hath reserved in everlasting
chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day." There's
no redemption for fallen angels. There's no redemption for Lucifer. There's no redemption for these
who fail individually. God has reserved them in everlasting
chains of darkness unto the day of judgment. But man And it's
the same sin. He saw the tree was good to the
eyes, good to the taste, and desired to make one wise, like
God. And they took it, and they fell.
Why didn't God reserve all mankind, Adam and his posterity, to everlasting
change of darkness, like he did Lucifer and these angels that
fell? Because man, when he fell, had
a Savior. He had a surety. He had one called
the second Adam already. You mean before he fell? Before
he fell, Christ was the Lamb slain before the foundation of
the world. That's right. Hebrews 2 tells you that. Look
at Hebrews 2, verse 16. Man, Satan and the Lucifer and
the fallen angels, they didn't have a surety. They didn't have
a They didn't have a lamb slave. They didn't have anyone in their
nature and seed. But we did. Look at Hebrews 2,
verse 16. And verily, he took not on him
the nature of angels, fallen angels, but he took on him the
seed of Abraham. He took on him the nature of
human flesh. Not the principalities and powers
and runes and darkness and the angels, it fell that he took
for himself human flesh, the seed of Abraham. Wherefore, in
all things, it behooves him to be made like unto his brethren,
his elect, his chosen, that he might be for them a merciful,
faithful, high priest in things pertaining to God." We're in
a shame shape today. We fail. We stand against God. We said, I will. I will. I will. But when we said that,
there was a Redeemer waiting, who said, I will. We broke every
law. There was a Redeemer waiting
to obey every law. Justice says, cursing and killing
requires satisfied justice. And he was killed for us. So
he could redeem them and make reconciliation for the sins of
people, not angels. People. So our Lord Jesus said
to these disciples here, and Luke, turn back to my text. He
said, they came in all excited that they used the name of Christ
and the devil was subject to them, Satan was subject to them.
Our Lord said, that's not news. I beheld him fall from heaven
like lightning. And I give you, watch this verse,
and I give you power over this character. Serpents. In what likeness did he appear
to Eve? A serpent. It was more subtle
than any beast of the field. The curse God put upon him, the
serpent. He refers to Satan and all of
his cohorts as serpents, and what else? As scorpions, and
scorpion. I give to you power over serpents
and scorpions, over the enemy. Your enemy is Satan. We—our enemy
is not flesh and blood. We wrestle not against flesh
and blood. Our enemy is the principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness,
spiritual wickedness in our places. They are our enemies. But I give
you power over these snakes and scorpions and enemies. What kind
of power is this? It's his power. He doesn't give
you power to conquer them. He doesn't give you power to
defeat them. You can't defeat Satan. Adam
couldn't, and he was in the image of God. He fell like a leaf before
the wind. Peter couldn't. Oh, Peter, he
said, well, I'll die for you. These other guys might leave
you, but not me. He's the only one that denied
his Lord. Why? Satan. So don't get the
idea that the Lord Jesus has given me and you power over the
devil, and over Satan, and over principalities and powers. Our
power over them is in Him. He's the one that's got the power
over them. He's the one that can defeat
them. And he says here in that next line, I give you power to
tread upon them. You're going to walk among them.
You're going to tread upon them. They're going to be all around
you. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but principality of
spiritual wickedness all about us. How are we going to move
through them? And how are we going to tread
upon them? And how are we going to, when we encounter them, who's
going to help us? He is! And they're, listen, and they'll
tell you, shall by any means hurt you. You see, Michael, and I said
there's three angels in there, Lucifer, the day star, Michael,
and Gabriel. Gabriel blows the horn, doesn't
he? All right, but Michael, he encountered Satan one time in
person. Turn to Jude, verse 9. Michael, the archangel, encountered
Lucifer in person. It says here in the book of Jude,
he did, verse 9. Jude, verse 9, says it, Michael. But verse 8 describes these devils
and men of darkness, they're filthy dreamers, verse 8, filthy
dreamers. They defile the flesh, they despise
dominion, they speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael, the archangel,
when contending with the devil, now here he encountered Satan,
Michael the archangel, about the body of Moses. I don't know
what that's referring to, I don't know. You know, the Lord took
Moses up on top of that and buried him. And buried him. Killed him and buried him. And
this might have been that time, Satan might have wanted Moses'
body to be kept by the Israelites so they could worship it. And
that's what they would have done. You know, when they took the
brazen serpent down from the pole, they worshipped that thing.
They put it in a box and the velvet cover around it and worshipped
that thing. and kept it as an object of worship,
an idol. Until Hezekiah came along, he
said, that's nothing but a worthless piece of brass, and ground it
to powder. He upset those folk. But we do
the same thing today. They crucify Christ on the cross,
we worship the cross. Not we, but they do. He sent
the Lord into the world through the womb of a virgin, and people
worshiped the virgin. That's right. He buried him in
a tomb in Jerusalem somewhere. They don't know where it is.
They claim they do, and they sell tickets to poor, demented people
who go to see that tomb, you know. But there's a tomb over
there. The people worship the tomb instead of him that came
out of there. That's human nurture. And so
when Micah was disputing with Lucifer over the body of Moses,
it might have been that body. Let's take him down there and
let us worship him. Well, Michael, you know what
he's going to do with him. It says here, Michael says he's
not going to do anything with him. He said, Michael, the archangel,
when contending with the devil, he disputed about the body of
Moses. He does not bring against him
a railing accusation. Michael says, that's not my department. He said, the Lord will do a thing.
I'll turn you over to him. I turn you over to him. Our Lord has all power, and he
says here, in me, you have power over serpents and scorpions and
the enemy, and they're not going to hurt you. They're not going
to hurt you. Satan himself described that
position the believer holds in Christ. Turn to Job. Satan himself
talked about this edge that God's put around his people, delivering
them and keeping them from those that would hurt them. While you're
turning to Job chapter 1, I'll quote you a verse. He said he
gives his angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways
lest you dashed your foot against the stone. But you know, here
in Job chapter 1, verse 7, Well, let's read verse 6, Job
1, verse 6. Now, there was a day when the
sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan, who
was Lucifer, the day-star, now Satan, he came among them. He
came among them. I can't explain that, I just
know that's what it says, he came among them. And the Lord
said to Satan, which chemist thou? Satan answered, I'm born
to and fro in the earth. He's the god of this and from
walking up and down on him. He's a prince of the fire and
the air, a spirit that works in the children of disobedience.
He's the God of this world. It's his dominion. And the Lord
said to Satan, have you considered my servant Job? Have you set
your heart on my servant Job? There's none like him in the
earth. He's a mature, upright man. He's
one that fears God and hates evil. And Satan answered. Now look at this. The Lord said,
Does Gerald fear God for nothing? Have you not made a hedge around
him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every
side? You have blessed the work of
his hands. His substance is increased in
the land. I can't touch him. I can't touch
him. Not because John couldn't handle
him, he couldn't. But the Lord Jesus built a hedge
around him. And that's what he's saying to
these disciples. I built a hedge around you. You're mine. And you can tread on serpents
and scorpions and the enemy. Walk right among them. Right
among them. And they won't hurt you. In fact,
in verse 19, Luke 10, he said there's nothing shall by any means hurt you,
wound you fatally, destroy you. Now God does allow. In the case of Job, he allowed
Satan to work him over. Didn't he allow that, didn't
he? You buy that, won't you? He allowed
that. He allowed that. And he allowed
Peter to have his pride whipped. Peter needed that. He needed
to see how weak he was, and the Lord showed him. He wasn't in
trouble at all to show it, turn him over to himself. And he'll
do those things. But Satan's the god of this world.
If our gospel be hid, it's hid to them that are lost, in whom
the god of this world hath blinded their minds. Hadn't blinded yours,
because God hath who created the light, caused the light to
shine out of darkness, has shined in your heart to give you the
knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus.
But you've got a hedge around you, and nothing's going to hurt
you. All right, back to the text.
That's what he told him. So he said, uh, I saw Satan from
home, and I give you power over these archenemies. They're not
going to hurt you. You're mine. your mind. Then in verse 20, he said, notwithstanding,
notwithstanding in this, don't rejoice. Don't rejoice that the
devil's a subject unto you. Don't, don't rejoice in that,
that the Spirit's a subject unto you. But I'll tell you something
in which you can rejoice. I'll tell you something in which
you can rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. They are written. They are written. Rejoice in
this, because your names are written. Your names! Think of
it now. I've got a name my parents gave me when I was born. Henry
Thomas Bacon. You've got a name. And that name,
your name, that's what it said. Peter, John, James. Your name. Your name are written. Not will be if you hold out.
Not will be if you do certain things. Your name are. This is
the Lord speaking now. This is the Lord of glory. Don't
challenge me on this, because he's the one that's saying it.
I'm not. He said, Your name are written. Well, who wrote them? Well, God did. God wrote them. That's the only one who writes
things in heaven is God. Whom he foreknew, he predestinated
to be conformed to the image of his Son. And whom he predestinated,
he called. And whom he called, he justified.
And whom he justified, he's already glorified. Now God be pardoned. Who can be against me? Your names
are written in heaven. You know why God's the only one
who can write them? It's because it's his book. That's
why he told Moses, this is my book. Let's find that. Turn to
Exodus 32. It's my book. The Word of God
has a lot to say about this book in which our names are written.
I want to show you some verses. Now, you get your Bible ready,
and let's turn to these verses, and you mark them. You just do
a little marking in your Bible. Just mark the Exodus 32, verse
32. Now, Moses loved the people of
God. He loved Israel. And the Lord
was angry with Israel. And the Lord told Moses, just
move out of the way, and I'll destroy every one of them. He
was angry with Israel. And in Exodus 32, verse, beginning
with verse 31, and verse 30, listen. And it clearly passed
on to Moses said to the people, you sinned a great sin. Now I'm
going to go up unto the Lord, for adventure I shall make an
atonement for your sins." And Moses returned to the Lord and
said, Lord, all these people have sinned a great sin, they've
made them gods of gold. Yet now, Lord, if you'll forgive
their sins, and he didn't finish, he's got a straight line. He
said, Lord, if you'll forgive their sins, and he stopped. And then he said, if not, blot
me, I pray thee, out of your book which you have written."
Wipe my name out. That's love, isn't it? If you're
not going to be merciful to these people, my people, you just take
my name out, too. Now, that's bold, and that's
wonderful, and that's affection, but that ain't the way it is. You look at that next verse,
and the Lord said, Whosoever sinned against me,
him will I blot out of my book." I'll handle who's in the book
and who's out of the book, don't you hear? Let's learn from that,
okay? Let's learn that. We'll sing
a song, there's a new name written down in glory. A new one? Who
wrote it? Was it just Rachel that wrote
it? People who are being saved are people whose name are already
written in that book. Let me show you that. Turn to
Psalm 139. This is one of my most favorite
scriptures. I love Psalm 139. I love to preach
from it. I love to read it. It's got great
confidence and comfort. Psalm 139, verse 13. The psalmist said he couldn't
flee from the presence of the Lord. And then he said, verse
13, I'll tell you why. Psalm 139, 13. For thou hast
possessed my reins, that's my innermost being, my soul. You
covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee, I'm fearful
and wonderfully made, marvelous in thy works, and that my soul
knoweth not well. My substance, what's that word
substance? My body, my strength, my name,
me, my character, my personality, me. That was not hid from me
when I was made in secret, when I was conceived as a little seed
from my father, when I was curiously walked in the lowest parts of
the earth in my mother's womb. That's what that is, lowest parts
of the earth is the mother's womb. I was conceived and shaped
in my mother's womb. And when I was being formed,
when that seed was germinated, and when I was being formed,
your eyes saw me. My granddaughter's expecting
a baby, and we saw the picture. I may have told you about this
last time I was here, and I'll tell you about that picture.
The baby was 12 weeks. And they've got us picked a camera
now that takes a picture of its eyes, its face. I saw her fingers. You know all about that, don't
you, Jim? I saw her fingers moving. I saw her little bones in her
leg. She didn't weigh but 12 ounces. They measure it. Came
on the screen there, 12 ounces. But that's a person. And God already
knows her. That little one that will be
one day be sitting in my lap. He's got her name written in
the book of life. That's what it says. My substance
was not healed for thee when I was made in the Lord. Verse
16, your eyes saw my substance, it being unperfect. And in your
book, in your book, I'm not talking
about church-rolled books. I'm not talking about that new
name written up yonder, September the 1st. I'm talking about his
book. all my memories were written,
when his continuance, when incontinence were fashioned, when yet there
wasn't a one of them, when I didn't even exist, my name was written. Can you grab hold of that? The other night on TV, Larry
King asked John MacArthur from California, are you saying that
no one will go to heaven unless they believe on Jesus Christ.
Is that what you're saying? John MacArthur said, that's what
the Bible says. It's not special what I'm saying,
it's what the Bible says. And I just read to you what God
said. Those names were written in his book when there weren't
any of them. In fact, my granddaughter's talking
about what she's going to name that little girl. She doesn't
know. God knows. He's already named her. In fact,
it's already written. If I could peep up there and
see what was already written, I'd tell her what to name her. But I guarantee you the name
will match that one. I don't know how many times I'll
read the dictionary and hunt a name, but it's going to match
the one he wrote. That's our God. Now you rejoice in that. You
want something to rejoice in, not to just devil the subject
under you and somebody laid a hand on you and you got rid of your
dandruff or something else. But you rejoice your name is
written in heaven. Let me show you another scripture,
Daniel chapter 1. Daniel And at that time shall Michael
stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of
our people. There shall be a time of trouble such as never was
since there was a nation even to that same time. At that time
our people shall be delivered, everyone that shall be found
written in the book. You talk about tribulation, all
you want to, and Armageddon, and all these things, but thy
people shall be delivered. Every one of them is written
in the book. That's not all. Turn to Revelation
chapter 13. Revelation 13. Revelation 13. Now, watch this. Revelation 13,
verse 8. that dwell upon the earth shall
worship him, this false god, this Antichrist,
they'll worship him, people on the earth will, whose names are
not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation
of the world. They're going to worship—everybody's
going to be delivered whose name's written, and everyone's going
to worship Satan whose name's not written. Because those whose names are
written have Christ. Those whose names are not written
never knew him. He said, I never knew you. Revelation 17, turn to chapter
17, verse 8. Revelation 17, 8. The beast that
you saw was and is not, shall ascend out of the bottomless
pit and go into perdition. And they that dwell on the earth
shall wonder whose names were not written
in the book of life from the foundation of the world. When
they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is, they're
going to wonder, who's going to wonder? Those whose names
were not written in the book of life from the foundation of
the world. One more scripture, Revelation
21, 27. Revelation 21, and there shall in no wise enter
in." He's talking about that holy city. There shall in no
wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever
worketh abomination, or maketh a lie. But I'll tell you who
will. They which are written, are written. Rejoice that your names are written
in the book of life. All right, here's a question.
closing my message. Preacher, how do you know that
your name and our names are written in heaven? How do you know? Christ said so, but I'll give
you four reasons. One, they're written in God's
book. Do I believe God? Yes, I do. Abraham was in the book. Why? Because he believed God.
What shall we say that Abraham, our father, hath found? Our father
according to the flesh, he believed God and was counted to him for
righteousness. And the scripture says that he
was persuaded that God was able to do all that he promised, and
therefore was imputed to him for righteousness. This was not
written for his sake alone, but for ours also, to whom it shall
be imputed if we believe on him who raised us. our Lord from
the dead. You believe? I do. You don't
know what can shake your head, yes or no? I believe. I believe. Therefore, my name's in the book.
If it wasn't in the book, I wouldn't believe. It's not in the book because
I believe. I believe because it's in the book. That's right. I'm not born of God because I
believe. I believe because I'm born of God. I'm not born of God because I
love Him. I love Him because I'm born of God. My name's not
in the last book of life because I believe. I believe because
it stands. And I believe it's Him. You see
what I'm saying? Faith not before life. Life's
first, and faith. That's right. He that seeth the sun and believes
on him. You can't believe on him until
you see him. You can't see him without eyes. But if you ever
see him, you'll believe on him. You can't help it. He that seeth
the sun and believeth on him hath life. Faith is the result of life. I believe because I live. My name's in the book of life
because I believe God. I believe God because my name's
in the book of life. That's it. Secondly, this book is God's
book. Secondly, this book is the book
of the Lamb. Do you believe in the Lamb? Everybody who comes to God's
got to have a lamb. You have a lamb? Abel had a lamb.
Cain didn't. Cain's name's not in there. Cain
didn't have a lamb. He brought his works. Abel built an altar and brought
a lamb, slew the lamb, shed its blood, put it on the altar, and
God had respect to Abel and his lamb and his altar. Abraham said, My son. The boy
said, Where's the lamb? He said, My son, God will provide
a lamb. Him second the lamb. Moses said,
Take a lamb. the lamb. Put the blood on the
door. Pastor preached on that this morning, didn't he? Wasn't
it beautiful? Put the blood on the door. I see the blood. I'll
pass over here. I think it's in the book of life, because
this is the book of the lamb. And I have—he's my lamb. John
the Baptist said, there he is, there's the lamb of God, who
taketh away the sin of the world. And everybody who follows the
lamb, has a lamb, believes in the lamb, is in the book. God's book? I believe God. It's
the book of the Lamb. He's my Lamb, your Lamb, only
Lamb. But it's the book of the Lamb
what? Slain. Slain. Christ crucified. Oh, that's where it's got to
be. It's not Mary. And that baby
in the manger that says, it's that Christ on the cross. It's the blood that maketh atonement
for the soul. Everybody who has the Lamb slain
is in the book. That's right. Lamb slain. Don't
come to God without the Lamb slain. He was wounded for our
transgression. He was bruised for our iniquities.
The chastisement of our peace was on Him. By His stripes we're
healed. The blood of Christ cleanses
us from all sin. We're redeemed, not with corruptible
things, but with the precious blood of Christ as a Lamb. without
spot of blemish. I'm confident. My name's in God's
book. I believe God. My name's in the
book of the Lamb. That's the only lamb. He's my
lamb. My name's in the book of the Lamb's slave. What's the
fourth thing? Before the foundation of the
world, old David lay dying. David lay dying, 75 years old,
same age I am right now. His work was finished, his race
was run, and he's going to be with the Lord. And he was confident. He said, surely goodness and
mercy hath and will follow me all the days of my life, and
I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. What's your
hope? David, because you fought a few battles and whipped a few
enemies and and wrote a few scriptures, and preached some sermons, and
believed. Is that your hope? No. His last
words, although it be not so with my house, God made with
me an everlasting covenant. The Lamb slain before I was born. The Lamb slain before the world
was born. The Lamb slain before the man's
sin, before the foundation of the world. He made with me in
Christ an everlasting covenant, ordered, finished, complete in
all things, and as sure as God's on the throne. And this is all
my salvation. Write it down. That's all my
salvation. Whatever I've done, whatever
I am, whatever I've accomplished, whatever, whatever, That's all
my salvation. And more than that, that's all
my desire. That's all I want. That's right. That's all of it. You can say now, my name's written
in the book, can't you? You say, well, our names are
the same. My name is written in heaven. It has to be. It has to be. the black preacher in Richmond,
Virginia, back during the Civil War, quite noted for his eloquence
and illustrations. But somebody asked him one time,
said, if you stand at the gate of heaven, and they stop you,
and they say to you, what right you got to be here, John Jasper?
What right you got to be here? He said, I'm going to recline,
got no right to be here at all. I'm not here on my rights. I'm
here on the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ, who sits
on that throne. That's my righteousness. What if, what if, what if, what if,
what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if,
what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if,
what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what
if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if,
what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if,
what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if, what if,
what if, what if, He said, if they turn me away,
a believer, in the Lord Jesus Christ, God's going to lose a
whole lot more than I lose. Boy, it shocked that fellow,
I'll ask you about it. He said, what on earth are you
talking about? He said, I'm going to lose my soul, but God's going
to lose his honor, because he said in his word, he promised
Those who believe on the Son will never perish. And if I perish
believing on the Son, God's word is false, and he's lost his honor. Now that's faith. I don't know
what that old man preached other than that, but I know that's
faith. I believe God. Therefore, it's
laid up for me, Paul said, a crown of righteousness, which he'll
give to me in that day, and not to me only, Oh, who believe on
Him. Isn't that good news? Now, if
that doesn't make you happy, you can't be made happy. All
right, come on, John, and leave us in the closing here. We're
going to sing number 127, right? 127. All right, let's turn to
127, and we'll stand while Brother John leads us. All right, we'll sing verses
1, 2, and 3. Room and chamber, you repaint
my illusion of salvation. Burying pain and scarring blue in my face that can't be smooth. And what God must be, oh, that
God must be. Alleluia, what a Savior. I'm not afraid of the dark I'm
not afraid of the dark I'm not afraid of the dark you.
Henry Mahan
About Henry Mahan

Henry T. Mahan was born in Birmingham, Alabama in August 1926. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served as a signalman on an L.S.T. in the Pacific during World War II. In 1946, he married his wife Doris, and the Lord blessed them with four children.

At the age of 21, he entered the pastoral ministry and gained broad experience as a pastor, teacher, conference speaker, and evangelist. In 1950, through the preaching of evangelist Rolfe Barnard, God was pleased to establish Henry in sovereign free grace teaching. At that time, he was serving as an assistant pastor at Pollard Baptist Church (off of Blackburn ave.) in Ashland, Kentucky.

In 1955, Thirteenth Street Baptist Church was formed in Ashland, Kentucky, and Henry was called to be its pastor. He faithfully served that congregation for more than 50 years, continuing in the same message throughout his ministry. His preaching was centered on the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified, in full accord with the Scriptures. He consistently proclaimed God’s sovereign purpose in salvation and the glory of Christ in redeeming sinners through His blood and righteousness.

Henry T. Mahan also traveled widely, preaching in conferences and churches across the United States and beyond. His ministry was marked by a clear and unwavering emphasis on Christ, not the preacher, but the One preached. Those who heard him recognized that his sermons honored the Savior and exalted the name of the Lord Jesus Christ above all.

Henry T. Mahan served as pastor and teacher of Thirteenth Street Baptist Church in Ashland, Kentucky for over half a century. His life and ministry were devoted to proclaiming the sovereign grace of God and directing sinners to the finished work of Christ. He entered into the presence of the Lord in 2019, leaving behind a lasting testimony to the gospel he faithfully preached.
