Let's open our Bibles tonight
to the passage read by the pastor 2 Peter chapter 1. I call this message, the title, A Sermon for Me. Because messages like this interest
me a great deal. and encourage me a great deal,
and comfort me in my praise, as I preach to myself tonight,
and you are permitted to listen in. It will be equally interesting
to you, and comforting, and instructive. I want to read first verse 10,
and I think I'll get your attention right away, because when I opened
to this passage, this was the first verse that I considered.
2 Peter 1 verse 10, Wherefore the rabbi brethren give diligence, great concern,
to make your calling and election sure, But if you do these things,
you shall never fall. Does that interest you? It's of great concern, I believe,
to every believer, to this preacher, to this pastor, to all of you
here, to make my calling and election sure. I want to know
Christ. I want to know that I know Christ. I want an interest in His saving
grace, don't you? And I cannot know my election
by looking into the Book of Life, because it's not available to
us. Our Lord told His disciples one
time when they came back from a preaching mission, they were
real excited that the brethren were subject to Him, remember?
Even the devil is subject, but you're right. He said, God rejoice
that the demons are subject to you, but rather rejoice that
your names are written in heaven. But I've never seen that book,
nor the man has, and cannot see it now. And then I read in Revelation
5 about a... He said, I saw one sitting on
the throne, and he gave thanks for the book. And it was not
found anywhere in heaven, earth, or under the earth that one could
open that book. Now, it began to weep, and one of the elders
said to me, Weep not, for I am the child of Jesus, and I am
your book. But it's no good in it, for it's
not available to me, the contents of that book. Then how, how can I give it to
you? Make my problem an election issue. Thank you. Well, I'll give you
two things that will help you and help me. The first is this. We began not with our election,
but with our calling. You notice how this is written?
We're full of arrivals that give diligence to make new problems
an election issue. And with God, with God, in the
Lord's power, election comes first. It says, Whom he foreknows,
he shall bless the nations with the strong faith of his Son,
whom he shall bless the nations with the power. So with God,
election comes first. Through knowledge, election,
through restoration, through the power of the Lord's power
comes first. And the man said to the man,
the Lord said to him, he's too much today, he can't. We say
to him, he can't be sure he's too much today, or he wouldn't
know. So if we can determine that we
can't, then we can be sure he's right. I will lift it up." And
that's what happened. If God lifts it up, it will be
lifted up. But if God calls it up, it will
be called, it should be lifted up. So, and I think now, first,
moving to 2 Corinthians, chapter 13, 2 Corinthians 13, Paul exhorts the Church of God
in this fashion, in 2nd verse, verse 35, that examine yourself. Examine yourself. That's what
we need. That's what we need to talk about. Prove yourself. Examine yourself
with the Scriptures. Prove yourself with the Scriptures.
Know you're not your own self? I was 5 feet at the beginning,
it took me the rest of us. So we were told to examine ourselves
that way, with the work, and to turn around. And I think in
terms of the cows and the shepherds. And you know what I did? I looked up the word, cows. They
said, cows, shepherds. And I found it over here, to
begin with, in 1 Corinthians, chapter one. It shivers at the
moment of calling. And I say to him, I don't give
a list of the list. It's best to write in black and
white. I want you to talk about our
calling. Your calling, don't write black
and white. You feed your calling, brother.
You see what I'm saying, I mean? You feed your calling. Here it
is, listen. Now, it's not that he buys me
unless I'm a stranger. Not really my race. Not really
no... I don't fit in that sector. Why?
Because I'm a human being. And here's where I do fit. God
has chosen the foolish things in this world. I've been the
world's greatest saint. That's it. Foolish. It's ridiculous. God has chosen the foolish things
in the world. Compared to what God has chosen
the weak things. Anyone here weak in the mouth,
I'll say it. You got weak. I can't do nothing,
I know nothing, have nothing, and can do nothing, say it. I'm
poor indeed, say it. He's telling those folks, he's
telling me. I went out, look, we, we go. To compare the things of the
mouth, and they said, they said to me, which the United States
indicates in our minds and our faiths. Things which we despise
are the works of God. And things which are not, nothing,
what are we? The prophets of justice, just
as the Bible, that's how it is. He considers the inhabitants
of the earth as what? I said, what's in that? The Lord
willed it, and it hath been given, and it hath been covered to this
earth, and considered him as the recipient of heaven. The things that are not to bring
you health, the things that are of good flesh, the world will
just break. I never said that. If that's
what God told me, He told me. If he thought the foolish, the
weak, the despised, the base, the moon, the weak, I don't think
of that. I've been told. That's right. He saved the sinners,
he saved faith, for God's sake. He said he saved the sick and
saved the lost, that's literally it. He died to save sinners when
he wanted to. I want to see the word of God
in you. 2 Timothy chapter 1. Let's see if you can fit in. If I can fit in here, you can
fit in here. 2 Timothy chapter 1. This is
what I'm told. He said in 2 Timothy 1 verse
8, Be not thou there for a change in the testimony of thy Lord.
That's the gospel of thy Lord. Not me, this prisoner. to give
our partition the frictions of the gospel according to the power
of God, if we say so, and call on us with a holy calling, with
a venerable calling, with a grand calling, not according to our
words. I've got no work. I've got nothing. As Pope Francis said, he's got
nothing. Except for the cross of Christ, by the way. I have
no work. Now, he's calling the cross,
like, no work, no marriage, no business, nothing to present,
and he's calling it? That's a fact. Not a part of
your work, but a part of your soul, purpose, and grace which
has given us in Christ before the world began. Can you believe
in that? Can you agree that salvation is undeserved, unmerited? Salvation is of the Lord, by
His own purpose, gracing Christ, given to us, softly and freely,
before the world began? Do you believe that? Do you agree
with that? If you don't agree with it, you're proud. Otherwise,
you wouldn't believe it. Otherwise, you couldn't stand
a prayer. If He hadn't called you, you wouldn't agree with
that. That's what the fire says. And it's not according to your
breath, to your shape, form, or fashion, but by your suffering,
unmerited, undesired grace, given you, not sold, given you in Christ
the Lord, before this world ever had a suffering. It's signed,
sealed, and commissioned. Salvation is coming. But brother,
I love this. I don't just tolerate it. I don't
just agree with it. It's scriptural. It's not only
scriptural, it's true. Now brother, that's the way it
has to be. He doesn't say the opposite.
That's his job. If he's confident, and if he's
driven to that regard, then he ain't even humble or bound, but
by his own grace, have a mercy upon himself. You didn't know
that. You don't know that. You ain't
been taught. All right. Here's the verse. Philippians
3. We're talking about Solomon. Now, that's not the best way
of saying that about Solomon. It's kind of a picture of Solomon.
You've been listening to the story, listen to this. Now here's
what the apostle Paul, when he's right at the end of his life,
end of his last term, he's been preaching for years, years and
years and years. He's been establishing churches,
he's got revelations from heaven, he's had experiences in the scriptures,
been to the third government, and he's written most of the
epistles in the New Testament. And then he says in Ephesians
3 verse 12, Not as though I have already
attained it, even though it is so. But I follow after it. If but I may apprehend, lay hold
of that for which also I am laid hold of, by Christ, of my brethren,
I cannot not myself put apprehended to the right. It's just one thing
after another. Forgetting those things which
are behind, reaching forth into those things which are before.
I pray, I pray, I seek, I look, I keep coming, looking to Christ. I pray for the mark of the cross,
for the mark of the cross, for the mark of the cross. I'm saying that those in the
Lord's power keep pressing the cross. They keep coming to Christ. They keep looking to Christ.
They do everything in themselves for us now, to have apprehension,
to be perfect in this life. They need Him just as much to
go with His first counsel. That's what God says. That's what I'm pressing. I'm
pursuing and seeking. I'm looking, coming to Christ,
with a pride that I've not found in the world. I'm looking, coming to
Christ, with a pride that I've not found in the world. I'm looking, coming to Christ,
with a pride that I've not found in the world. I'm looking, coming
to Christ, with a pride that I've not found in the world.
I'm looking, coming to Christ, with a pride that I've not found
in the world. I'm looking, coming to Christ, with a pride that I've not found
in the world. I'm looking, coming to Christ, with a pride that I've not found
in the world. I'm looking, coming to Christ, with a pride that I've not found in
the world. I'm looking, coming to Christ, with a pride that I've not found in the world. I'm looking,
coming to Christ, with a pride that I've not found in the world.
I'm looking, coming to Christ, with a pride that I've not found in the world. I'm looking,
I have three consultants. That's four to six. There's one
father, one spokesman. Even if you're proud, there's
one thing that you're proud of. What is that number? That's what
John said. He said, What manner of love the Father
has bestowed on us, that we should become sons of God. It was not
yet appeared what we should be, but when He shall appear, we
will see Him as He is, and be like Him. That's the hope of
our Father. to be a part of that reason you're
in this school. One body, one spirit, one hope,
one love, one faith, one passion, one God and God and Allah, who's
one Allah, two Allah, and in you are. Every single one of
us, one glowing soul. That's what David said. He said,
I was satisfied with my way. That's the hope that I call it.
Moving forward, we progressionate, we conform, and we will do the
same. Moving forward, we progressionate, we conform, and we will do the
same. I call it. Moving forward, we justify, moving
justify, we may not do the same. I call it that. Well, we got pretty good hope,
but we've been bad at it. We've been called sinners. Not
by the works, by his pure, clean, eternal sacrifice. We keep crushing
the past, keep looking to the past, keep coming to the past.
We'll never look, anytime left alone. Always looking to the
past, always with no hope to be like him. To see him like
he is and do like him. And here's the rest of it. Turns
it, flushes it, and slaps it. Flushes it and slaps it. That gives you good hope that
he comes, doesn't it? I believe I can say it out there,
so I believe it can happen. I believe it can. I believe it
can. 1 Corinthians 7, and I look at verse 22. He was promised. So
he was called the servant. That's what we can certainly
see. So he was called the servant. Being a servant, he's a Lord's
servant. After I saw he was called being
a priest, he's the Lord's servant. You can get where I'm going.
You go up to the cross. Be not in the service of men,
brethren, but of a man wherein he is powerful, and of the Bible
of God." As the years go by, he's a man
right where he comes in. He comes in Christ. He never
leaves. Never grieved, never tired of
his gospel, never looked for something else, never tired of
being a good servant. He just ever made a call upon
us. That's what I've got to tell
you. That's right. That's what I've got to tell
you. Now, all right, now that's the first part. So it's plain,
I believe, and not too difficult to determine where I believe
in God. And if we've been borrowed, we've
been elected. No question about it. We've been
borrowed and elected. And here's the second thing.
Now, let's turn back to 2 Peter. Here's the second thing by which
we determine our power as an election. The second thing. Now, turn back to 2 Peter, chapter
1, verse 2. All right. 2 Peter 1, verse 2. Secondly, we know, we can know
that God's love by the presence of the graces that God gives
to His elect. That's right. We know our election by our power,
but secondly, we know our election if we are the recipient of the
graces God gives to His elect. Now look at verse two, 2 Peter
1. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you. Through the knowledge
of God and Jesus our Lord, according as His divine Father has given
unto us all things. He, God Almighty, in fact, has
given us all things, listen, that pertain to eternal life
and goodness. He's given us everything we need
to live spiritually. The Lord taught me, and then
very soon I heard everything. Scripture says, Our Father, who
is in fact Jesus, who is laid under us, wisdom, righteousness,
sanctification, and redemption. Isn't that a beautiful word? He had taught me it. It took
to it, man. He didn't make it to it. He gave
it to us. He had given us. All things have
to change in life. He gave it to us with the knowledge
of Him that has called us to glory and virtue in Christ. In Christ. In Him was all the
fullness of His body and I am complete in Him. God has given
me everything He requires, everything He commands, everything that
I need in Christ that pertains to life. Not just the taste of flesh,
but the life eternal in darkness, and in all, in Christ. Now, I'm
tripping. There's folks whereby also are
given unto us great and precious promises. Great and precious
promises. I just heard Al Woodson, I've
spoken to his message. Do you know all that Abraham
had that was a promise to God? Tell me something else Abraham
had. He was 65 years old and God promised
him a son. He didn't go for 25 years. And
all Abraham had that 25 years was a promise. That's right,
a promise. Abraham, God promised him the
land. He turned. And Abraham lived
his whole life until he died. He didn't have a family. Isn't
that correct? He didn't teach what God did
to Jacob. He didn't have a business. He didn't have his land. For 25 years he didn't
have a son. But he had what God promised.
Grace and precious promises. And that's the foundation of
his life. God promised. Let me show you that moment so
quickly. And that's how we do it. People keep saying, well,
show us a sign. No sign will be given. But if
we go to God, that's how we bring our brothers upon us. But now
listen, Roman folks, there's a twist to it. He started it
not as a promise of He started to promise the promise
of God through unbelief and was strong in faith, giving glory
to God. And being fully persuaded what
God had promised, he was able to perform it. And he was counted
among the righteous. Now, if we are elected, if we
are elected, we have everything in Christ that pertains to life
and righteousness. And you have the promise of God
in Christ that you will be redeemed. You have eternal man, you have
an inheritance reserved in heaven, incorruptible, undefiled, paid
with not a weight reserved for you, on the promise of God. Can
you pull out a title deed and show it to them? Somebody just
show me some proof. So if I'm proof that you've got
a home in heaven, just come on, get one, just one out of it,
you've got proof you're on that Lamb of God, you've got a baby.
Let's bring one with us. Here's your time right here.
The Word of God. That's what it is. The promise
of God. But for the believer, it's in
power and mercy. That's how you know you're going to
live. So that's the promise. You know, if you go to the fight,
the people are going to give you signs. Aren't you? I'm going to tell you how. People
get new revelations, you know, and they get new things like
this, you know, big uproar things up in Minnesota sometimes. What about sufficient? Am I awake? Am I calm? Am I in heaven? All I need for eternal life and
glory, and I have the promise of life. Let me show you something
else. First, we've got 2 Peter 1. Verse 4, He's given us all
things that pertain to life and godliness. Second, in verse 4,
He's given us mercy. Jesus! Thank you, Lord. Let me tell you something. Not
many things are called precious. But He's precious. I said, who
do you think He's precious? His blood we would deem as the
precious blood of Christ. Faith is precious. Precious in
the sight of the Lord, the death of the believer. And I'll tell
you something else. His prophecies are precious. That's right. You can't
put a value on who He's precious. I don't know the promise of God,
but all the treasure He gives you. But here's the third thing. That by these His grace, His
promises, you might be a partaker of the divine nature. He's given us all things that
pertain to life, His precious promises, and He's given us the
new nature, the divine nature. That's right, the divine nature,
and you've had an escape to corruption within this world through Christ. We'll partake of the divine nature
of God. We are sons of God. Finally, that's what we've been
talking about. It was a, it was a holy witness
lady came to see Charlie. He was a priest by some time
ago. He went to a boatman. He was
a little bit tired. He wanted to do Bible study,
I said. He said, but she insisted on
coming in and talking to him. So he said, well, come on in.
And she sat him. He said, well, don't talk to
me. I'll be right back. So she started writing. And when she
got to Jesus, he said, wait a minute, who's this Jesus? Who's this
Jesus? She said, he's the Son of God. He said, how did he get
to be that? She said, well, I killed him.
He said, I'm the Son of God. I'm the Son of Man. I'm the Son
of Man. I got his nature. I got that
man's nature. All of nature, evil nature, sinful
nature, divine nature. I'm not the son of God, I'm the
son of a man. I said, Jesus, is he a man? She
said, yes. How'd you get to be the son of
God? He said, tell me. Well, she was lost in the fog.
She said, well, God created me. He said, he did? Yes, she said,
he's the first son God created. He said, you got a Bible, don't
you? She said, Father, I can't. And he said, what do you mean,
what do you mean? And he became a synagogue. So he asked her to turn to John
1, verse 14, the word was made flesh. And she said, well, he
violated the synagogue. He was depressed, and he couldn't
write. He could sing, but he couldn't
write. He said, turn to Hebrews 1, verse
8. She turned to her and she said, her Bible was a little
different, but it was closer to God. And God said to him,
God's Son, O God, is forever. He said, that's Jesus. She said,
I don't know the truth of this. He said, I don't need to do this.
She said, I'll get back with you. She said, I don't know the
truth of this. But he's the Son of God. This
Son of God, I am his birth. Turn to John just once. He's
given us, we do have, by grace, by our new birth, the nature
of God, divine nature. In fact, we've still got the
old nature and the new nature. John's Lord was faithful. But as many have received him,
to them gave he the right, the privilege, the power to become
sons of God. These sons of God were just born
the son of God in Christ Jesus, under the blood. But we are sons
of God. Now listen, even the men that
believe on his name, which were born, they were born to be sons
of God. And that they weren't born of
natural blood, of mother's blood, father's seed, and they weren't
born of the will of the flesh, as some men were, You know, the
will of some of them, and what their faith, and what some of
them have, is the will of God. And that's how we know we'll
come. We have a new nature, a divine nature, the nature of God, the
sons of God. Well, I'd like to, let's go back
to 2 Peter, 50. How can we determine the will
of God? God's given us everything pertaining
to life and gladness. He's given us exceedingly great
and precious promises, that by these promises we might be partakers
of the divine, the divine nature, the nature of God. How to escape the corruption
that's in the world, we must. And besides this, now watch this,
and besides this, giving all giving, you add to your faith.
Wait a minute, where did you get that faith? He gave you that
opportunity. That's all. That's all about
grace, and you're saved through faith, and that's not material.
It's the gift of God. God will answer it, and He'll
let you know it. That's God's will. You believe
in God, God will enable you to believe. God's people shall be
with you in the battle. Willing to repent, willing to
believe, willing to go to Christ, willing to embrace it. So he
said, now then, you have these graces, all things pertaining
to God. These graces grow. A believer,
a person whose life grows and grows, now watch this, adds to
your faith. Don't you? What's that? A character. Christian character,
principle. You grow in grace. Grow in grace. And add to your virtue knowledge.
You have to grow in knowledge. As I was saying, say a book of
words that you may grow thereby in grace and the knowledge of
Christ. These are evidence of authority. Listen. And add to your knowledge
of difference. What's that? That's self-control. Self-control, right? This is
all by God's grace. And as is your temperance, self-control,
patience, learn to go with God. You have to learn that, don't
you? And as is your patience, waitin'
on God to guide you in it. That's the truth of the Lord. Thank you, God, for this brotherly
kindness. You and me will give you up.
The definition of brotherly kindness is in two verses. Philippians. Brotherly kindness, I find right
here in Philippians, is just so important. In Philippians
chapter 2, verse 3 and 4. Here's brotherly kindness. Philippians 2, verse 3 and 4. Let nothing be done to do strife.
Wrangling, division, debate, profane, global, personal, global,
personal, sweeping, down, global. But in low-level society, you
know the good man. Let each esteem the other better. So watch the good man, not the
bad. That's what it is, you see. Watch
him. Look what every man has in his
own veins. Every man has his own things
about him. And that's part of the New Testament. That's right. And let's say that
this growth, this growth, and then the last growth appears
in our text. And after this growth in the
text, that will be the word in the text, charity. Now there'll
be a new study here, and the word charity makes a new new
text, the 25th chapter. That's all, 12 times. Most of
you are supposed to count from 12 to 10. In that work of charity,
you're always doing the same thing. The very same thing. Every time of the year, 24 hours
a day, a new lesson. Look at what you can call it.
You great lexicons doing the same thing. It's a word of offering,
about that, about that love. This is what it means. You make
the love. What is the love? It's your affection,
benevolence, affection for one another. Now I know I've heard
some of them, it's all right by me to change that word, verse
13, to crap, but that's not what that word means. That's what
it means for love, from your point of view. That's our quest,
to love each other. That's exactly what the Lord's
doing. He can't change it for something else, because He's
talking about love of one another. And that's what John said over
here, listen, the love of one another is love of one another.
Love is of God. Look at what love is. It's not
of God. No, it's not. Love is not love.
It's not God. He doesn't know that. So if we
can find a place of calm, serenity, and always some good will, we
have to look at the fact. If we can find the God of no
less particles of the grace of all things that pertain to life
and darkness in Christ, in Christ Jesus, I believe. He's given
us promises we believe. Blessed is God. Give us a new
nature. Give us faith to believe Christ.
As we are by His way, growing in His grace, and knowledge of
Christ. Grow in His grace. We are powerful. We are blessed. Now watch verse
8. Now, if He sends me in you, what then do you see? All things
pertain to God, divine nature, faith, godliness, patience, love,
and abide and grow. These things abide, they grow
in us. They make you that you shall not be buried. You're not
being unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, but
He that likes these things abides. He can't see a car. He's forgotten
what he claims. He was perfectly well-trained.
The other person was well-trained. What happened? He's still the
same old guy. What happened? Well, he's not telling the truth. All right, let's look at verse
ten now. What happened? The first three are the divine
powers of giving up all things that pertain to life. And if
these things be in you, you'll be fruitful in the knowledge
of Christ. If the lack of these things is found, now, verse 11,
verse 13, wherefore the Lamb of God is diligent to make you
proud in your relationship, if you do these things, these things,
What things? All things pertain to life and
God's love. These things were about life
and cooking, then we went off and we grew old. Love these things. You never found them. It doesn't
say you'll never see them, it says you'll never find them.
It doesn't say you'll never pay them, it says you'll never find
them. Because God's going to work a
place in your life. And verse 11 says, "...for so an interest
shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting
kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Here's what, let
me paraphrase that verse, verse 11. "...an abundant interest
into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Christ." These things being said by God's
grace, you know, An abundant supply of grace and strength
will be given us to carry on through this life, through its
duties, through its trials, through its experiences, through its
temptations, and with life opening. And we are called to depart out
of this world. Also there will be given unto
us an abundance, abundance. And you see what that word means?
That word means richly. large, triumphantly victorious,
a large—you're not going to sleep speaking, you're going to wake
up children. I'm going to speak to you. A triumphant infant will be given
the everlasting kingdom and glory in our Lord Jesus Christ. When
you come to die, you will depart from this world with joy and
comfort. You shall be triumphant over
that sickness and over that experience in death. And you shall enter
heaven, free from sin, free from judgment, and clothed in His
beauty. And He'll present you holy, unblamable,
and reprobable before His Father. And you shall enter heaven richly,
largely, triumphantly, And right from the beginning. That's right. And he was so proud to be with
us. So glad. And Peter said, well here it
is, verse 12. Therefore, I will not be negligent
to put you always in remembrance of these things. You know how
many times he says these things? He has given us all things. If
these things be in you, If you do these things, I'm not
going to tell you when he said, the poet puts you in remembrance
of these things. You know that. I didn't tell
you a thing about it. You would never know. You might be a skeptic. Now,
why do we have to keep on putting one another in remembrance of
these things? I'm going to give you five reasons. The third reason why we have
to, now Peter said, I've got to keep putting you in the middle.
Though you know it, I've got to keep reminding you. You know
why? Number one, God's people are
beset with trials and infirmities and troubles which shake this
old tabernacle place. I've been shaken a few times
over the years. Shaken. Believe it or not. And
we need to keep on remembering these things so we'll be able
to show them to another people. It isn't right now, but it is.
You can be sure it does. Secondly, we live in a land of
forgetfulness. And we need to be reminded of
His promises. What's that verse? Tell me the
old, old story. I forget so soon that all we
do know is that God remembers. I came in and said, Rudy Thompson
said, call me. And I said, I'll do what you
need. I never did it. It left me. Next morning, I woke up by 6
o'clock in the morning. I didn't know what we were getting
into, I believe. Well, she said, it's too late
in talking now. We live in a world of forgetfulness. We have no memory. We don't forget
our sins, we remember those of our own, but we forget the good.
And here's the third thing. We're surrounded by false preachers
and false religions and false doctrines and powerful
forces of evil, and Christ said, if it were possible, let us write
and receive your love. That's right. And he said they'll
come showing great signs and wonders, if it was possible. There's a crowd out there. They're
making a lot of noise. They're having a lot of success.
They're getting a lot of convoys. They got a lot of followers.
And I tell you, if you don't get back to the woods, you'll
have to see these things. Everybody that's got their following,
if everybody's following the receiver, he's a thief. That's right. There's a disruption.
So, it's dangerous out there. You know that when you work.
You're always looking for something. And if you're looking for something,
you know, it takes a great deal of work to stay in tune. Why not keep tuning your guitar?
That's just a character thing. Why don't you just leave it alone?
It gets out of tune easily, doesn't it? Just let His love get out
to people. We just let His love get out
to each other. I have not abandoned my servant. Here's the fourth
thing. We need to be reminded to improve
our knowledge of Christ because we just know Him partly. We don't know a lot, don't we?
I need to know some more. I need every revelation God gives
me. I need every bit. That's part
of what I was talking about. Man on man, precepts on precepts,
here and there, there and there, and that's why we've got to know
a lot. Don't despise the little things. And last of all, we need to be encouraged. Because
there's so few people who don't believe this message. I got a letter from a family
over in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, about two, three weeks ago. The
lady was writing to her husband, and she said, we've been watching
you on television. We can't believe it. There's
somebody on television preaching the sovereign grace of God. We
shouldn't. We turn this program on and hear this man preaching.
The sovereign gets robbed, elections, chicken addiction, all these
doctors get loaded and pained. We're amazed to find somebody
on TV preaching this message. There's someone else there. I
wrote him back. And I said, you're amazed at
me. I'm just as much amazed at you. I said, we're not really supposed
to do it, but there ain't really supposed to do it, but we did.
That's right. It's just as amazing. It's just
as amazing when it's a new place for us as it is for you and me. It's the same place, the same
power of God, overwhelming power of God. All right, I hope that's
a blessing. Thank you. Thank you very much. Prabhupāda, I wrote a section
for this message. There's a lot of good from you. I'd like to hear your words in
the years to come. That is a fine building. You've
ordered our heads to do your work. You've opened our eyes
to hope once again to do your work. We thank you. Now, we love you. We love you
as a citizen, and we're worried that you're going to miss all
of your promises. But this meant in our hearts
that two opponents will stay on the right track and do the
same thing, and ultimately, I'm proud of that. Thank you.
Henry Mahan
About Henry Mahan

Henry T. Mahan was born in Birmingham, Alabama in August 1926. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served as a signalman on an L.S.T. in the Pacific during World War II. In 1946, he married his wife Doris, and the Lord blessed them with four children.

At the age of 21, he entered the pastoral ministry and gained broad experience as a pastor, teacher, conference speaker, and evangelist. In 1950, through the preaching of evangelist Rolfe Barnard, God was pleased to establish Henry in sovereign free grace teaching. At that time, he was serving as an assistant pastor at Pollard Baptist Church (off of Blackburn ave.) in Ashland, Kentucky.

In 1955, Thirteenth Street Baptist Church was formed in Ashland, Kentucky, and Henry was called to be its pastor. He faithfully served that congregation for more than 50 years, continuing in the same message throughout his ministry. His preaching was centered on the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified, in full accord with the Scriptures. He consistently proclaimed God’s sovereign purpose in salvation and the glory of Christ in redeeming sinners through His blood and righteousness.

Henry T. Mahan also traveled widely, preaching in conferences and churches across the United States and beyond. His ministry was marked by a clear and unwavering emphasis on Christ, not the preacher, but the One preached. Those who heard him recognized that his sermons honored the Savior and exalted the name of the Lord Jesus Christ above all.

Henry T. Mahan served as pastor and teacher of Thirteenth Street Baptist Church in Ashland, Kentucky for over half a century. His life and ministry were devoted to proclaiming the sovereign grace of God and directing sinners to the finished work of Christ. He entered into the presence of the Lord in 2019, leaving behind a lasting testimony to the gospel he faithfully preached.
