Good evening. Good to see y'all. Open your Bibles with me to Psalm 62. Psalm 62. Lord willing, I'd like to look at just two verses of scripture this evening. The first two verses look beginning at verse one. Truly, my soul waiteth upon God. From him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be greatly moved. my rock and my salvation. And David says this, he only, he only is my rock. Now to some, he is a rock of offense. To some, a stone of stumbling. Turn to 1 Peter 2. Hold your place there, but turn to 1 Peter 2. 1 Peter 2 verse 7. Unto you therefore which believe, He is precious.

But unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner. A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, even to them which stumble at the word being disobedient, whereunto also they were appointed. To those that do not believe, to those that refuse to believe, a stone of offense, a stone of stumbling. They stumble at his birth, at his parentage, at his poverty, at his friends, at his doctrine, even at his death. The scripture says this, that wicked men crucified the Lord Jesus Christ. But you know at the same time they did what God determined to be done. Stumbling and destruction is appointed. It's the appointed end to all who reject Christ, who is the cornerstone.

But to those that believe, those that believe He is precious, He is that rock. He's a foundation. He's a refuge. He's the rock in which His people hide. Remember what God did with Moses? Remember that? He took him and where'd he put him? He put him in the cleft of the rock. And then he covered him. He covered him with his hand. We sing that song. He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock. David said, he's my rock. I ask you, is he yours? Is he your rock?

He's the rock that was smitten. We read of that in the scripture. And that rock must be, it must be smitten. That's what God told, he told him, smite the rock. And the Lord Jesus Christ, our rock, he was smitten of God. and afflicted. He's the rock upon which his church is established. Upon this rock will I build my church.

My friends, that's not a reference to Peter. You can't build a church on a man. I want you to think about this. Peter, what did he do? He denied the Lord. Peter rebuked the Lord. He refused to eat with those Gentiles. I find that discouraging and I find that encouraging at the same time.

He alone, Christ alone is my rock. What Christ is saying, he said, I'm going to build my church on that rock of confession. Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God. And that rock is found throughout the word of God. And 1 Corinthians 10, 4 tells us who that rock is. It says, they did all drink the same spiritual drink, for they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them. What's the rest of that scripture?

And that rock was Christ. It's Him, and it's Him alone. There's none like Him. What does David say here? He alone, he alone is my rock. In 1 Samuel 2 verse 2, it says, there is none holy as the Lord. There's none beside thee, neither is there any rock like our God. There's none like him.

In Isaiah 28, 16, thus saith the Lord, behold. I tell you, there's two things there should get our attention. One, thus saith the Lord. Now this entire scripture is the inspired word of God. But when a text says, thus saith the Lord, that ought to grab our attention. And then he says, behold.

Behold, I lay in Zion. Zion is the church. I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone. That's a rock, isn't it? That's what that man built his house upon, a rock. And the Lord says, I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation. And he that believeth, he that believeth shall never make haste, shall never be ashamed. What is that stone? What is that foundation? What is that rock? What is that precious cornerstone?

It's Christ. It's the Lord Jesus Christ and he is to the Father. Christ is all to the Father. And listen, He is all to the sinner. He alone, He alone is my rock. Christ is all. He's all in redemption. Jesus Christ is all. And one more thought on this, this He alone is my rock. Our Lord told a He told a parable over in Matthew 7, 24. He said, therefore, whosoever heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, I'll liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock, and the rains descended and the floods came and the winds blew and beat upon that house and it fell not.

Why? Because it was established upon a rock. In Luke's account, he said this man that built his house on a rock, he digged deep. He digged deep and he found the rock. You know, sometimes it takes a little while to dig, doesn't it? But this fellow was determined. He was determined to find that rock. He was more focused on finding that rock, probably spent more time that than making sure that he had a sure foundation, a right foundation, than he did putting up the structure. a sure stone, a tried stone. And when he found that rock, that's where he laid the foundation, was on that rock. In fact, listen, that rock is the foundation. No other foundation, no other, can any man lay than that which is laid. And then we read, he built that house. And again, when the storms came. And those storms come, don't they? Storms of trial. Storms of death. Storms of judgment. When the storms of wrath came, what happened?

It stood firm, didn't it? It stood firm. because it was built upon a rock. David wrote in Psalm 61 too, he said, from the end of the earth will I cry unto thee when my heart is overwhelmed. When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that's higher than I. That rock on which we stand, Psalm 40 verse 2, said, He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of a miry clay. Where's He put His people? He set my feet upon a rock and He established my goings.

He only. only is my rock. And that rock is to be praised. Psalm 95 verse 1 says this, Oh, come, let us sing unto the Lord. Let us make a joyful noise unto the rock of our salvation. And then we read here in our text, He is my salvation. He only, He alone is my salvation. Salvation from beginning to end. It is of the Lord. It is of Him and Him alone. He alone is my salvation. Is there anything about that that would give any indication that he's dependent upon man to do anything? That man could contribute or offer anything? He alone is my salvation.

You remember the words of Moses? Remember there at the When he spoke to the children of Israel there at the Red Sea, he said, stand still. Stand still. You know, we find ourselves in times when we think, what am I going to do? Stand still. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.

Despite the adversary. That was quite an adversary, wasn't it? The armies of Pharaoh, here they come. Listen, they were warriors. Despite the adversary. In spite of your fear. They must have trembled. Must have trembled at the sight of that army. And there are times when we tremble, isn't there?

But listen. God is gonna deliver his people. He's gonna bring them out with a mighty hand. They didn't deliver themselves, did they? The command, stand still. Stand still. The Lord shall fight for you. And you shall hold your peace. Turn with me to the book of Jonah. Look over in Jonah chapter 2. Look at verse 9. This is the message. This is the message of God's Word. Jonah 2. Verse 9, I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving. I will pay that that I have vowed.

Salvation is of the Lord. It's of him. Spurgeon wrote this. He said, my gospel is simply this, the whole of the work. whereby a guilty fallen son of Adam is lifted from the dunghill, is washed, justified, and translated into the kingdom of God, and made like his beloved son. It is of the Lord.

From beginning to its glorious consummation, 2 Samuel 23, 5, Although my house be not so with God, yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, ensure for this, this is all my salvation and all my desire. Though he make it not to grow, he alone He alone is my salvation. The same message is declared throughout the New Testament. That was Paul's message. In Ephesians 2, 8, let me just read this to you. You're familiar with it.

For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it's the gift of God. I wonder if he anticipated this argument because then he says, not of works, not of works, lest any man should boast where his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God hath ordained that we should walk in them.

Titus 3 verse 5, it is not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy." Whose mercy? His mercy. According to His mercy, He saved us. The message, salvation is of the Lord. There's no comfort anywhere else, no true comfort. And I know you've heard these points before, but let me give them to you again. Salvation is of the Lord in its origination. Salvation, the redemption of God's people. It was planned and purposed from our Lord from the beginning. Scripture says He's the Lamb slain, from before the foundation of the world.

Turn with me to Isaiah 46. Isaiah 46. Look at verse 9. Isaiah 46. Verse nine, remember the former things of old. For I am God and there is none else. I am God and there is none like me. Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, my counsel shall stand. I'll do all my pleasure, calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executes my counsel from a far country. I've spoken it. I'll bring it to pass. I have purposed it. I will also do it.

Salvations of the Lord in its execution. God the Father made his beloved and only begotten son, our surety, our representative. He made him the federal head of an elect people, a people chosen in him, chosen in Christ, given to him. And he's going to redeem them, and he's going to bring them to glory.

Our Lord said, I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep. I'm known of mine. And as the Father knoweth me, so know I the Father, and I lay down my life. I lay down my life for the sheep. And of the sheep I have which are not of this fold, them It doesn't say, I might bring, or I'd like to bring. What's it say? Them I must bring. And they shall. There's no doubt in that word. They shall hear my voice. And there shall be one fold and one shepherd.

In Adam, we die. In Christ, we're made alive. In Adam, we're made sinners. In Christ, his people are made righteous, made the very righteousness of God in him. In Adam, we were separated from God, but in Christ, We're brought to Him. We're brought to God.

He's the first cause of all things. We love this passage, He. God the Father. He hath made Him. He made His Son. God the Son to be sin for us. To be made sin for His people. He who knew no sin. Perfect. He hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Pleased the Lord. It pleased the Lord to bruise him. And those who planned His death, those who betrayed Him, those who tried Him, those who scourged Him and nailed Him to the cross and put Him in the tomb, they did what their wicked hearts desired to do. But in doing so, they did what God had determined would be done. He died for our sins, according to the scriptures. Salvations of the Lord in its origination. Salvations of the Lord in its execution. Salvations of the Lord in its application.

Brother Henry wrote this. He said, can a dead sinner give himself life? No more than a dead man in the grave can give himself life. Can a lost sheep find itself? Can an unregenerate man beget life in himself? Can the Ethiopian change his skin? Can the leper change his spots? Can he? Can a man do? No, a man cannot do any of these things.

But there's a day in which his people are made willing. When is that? They're made willing when? In the day of His power. Paul wrote in Galatians 1.15, he said, when it pleased God who separated me from my mother's womb and called me by His grace to reveal His Son in me. Salvation. It's of the Lord and it's sustaining power. The believer is kept. How? Kept by the power of God. Salvation's of the Lord and it's ultimate perfection. You think about this, the heart. This heart that now trembles. will one day be made to rejoice. Our burdens, our grief, our sin, put away. The corruption of this heart, removed. Removed.

Scripture says we'll be caught up together in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. and shall be. So shall we be forever with Him, forever with the Lord. Turn with me back to Psalm 62. Verse 1. Truly my soul waiteth upon God. From him cometh my salvation.

He only, he only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be greatly moved. He only, he alone is my rock. He only is my salvation. And then he says, he only is my defense, my stronghold, my security, my refuge. And those things being true, we can say with confidence, I shall not be greatly moved. I pray the Lord would bless his word, that he would comfort us through his word and reveal to us that he alone, none other, he alone is our rock. He alone is our salvation. All right.
