What I was trying to tell you
a little bit ago is what a delight it was to have our granddaughter
minister to my needs when she wrote to Shelby and said, our
God always does right. Our God always does right. What he does is right and is
right because he does it and we'll worship him. Here are four
words written by God over all the devices, intentions, designs,
and purposes of men and devils on earth and in hell against
his church, his cause, his people, or his purpose. It shall not
stand. That's the title of my message.
It shall not stand. My text is found in the seventh
chapter of the Gospel of Isaiah. Oh, may God give me grace and
give you grace to read these four words over everything that
would otherwise cause our hearts to tremble and quake with fear. God says it shall not stand and
it shall not stand. Let's read this chapter together.
This is God's message to Ahaz. Now you need to recognize, remember
who Ahaz was. Ahaz was probably the most abominable
king in the history of the divided kingdom of Judah. He was an idolatrous,
vile man. Ahaz so disregarded the worship
of God that rather than worshiping God, he tore up the altar and
made altars to gods all over Jerusalem. He was such a vile
man that rather than worshiping the Lord God, while pretending
to worship him, while pretending to worship him, he caused his
sons to pass through the fire to Molech. Now that means one
of two things when you read those words in scripture, men causing
their children to pass through the fire to Molech. It means
either they sacrificed a son to their heathen gods, burning
them before their heathen gods. Or it means they caused their
children to walk across fiery coals and burned themselves in
dedication to Moloch. That's the kind of man Ahaz was. Ahaz took the treasures out of
the house of God because he was fearful for himself. He pretended
to be fearful for his kingdom, but he was fearful for himself.
And he tried to hire help from Tiglath-Pileser. And he bribed
that pagan man to come be his help. God sent his servant, Isaiah,
this prophet, this faithful man, to Ahaz, some 16 or 17 years
after the death of Uzziah. That is 16 to 17 years after that which is recorded in the
sixth chapter of the book of Isaiah. 16 or 17 years after
Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up, his train filling
the temple, heard the word from God revealing himself to him,
purging away his sin, declaring himself to be purged from sin
by the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. And we were sent to preach
and he said, how long? He said, until the people are
hard as stone. and will not hear you until the
people are utterly consumed because they will not hear you. This
is God's message sent to Ahaz and God's message sent to you
and me by his prophet Isaiah. Though earth and hell should
unite in vile confederacy, in a rage against God's promise,
God's purpose and God's people. Nothing can alter God's promise. Nothing can hinder God's purpose. Nothing can hurt God's people. Thus saith the Lord, we read
in verse seven, thus saith the Lord God, it shall not stand,
neither shall it come to pass. The purposes of Satan, The intent
of Satan, the purposes of hell, the purposes of godless, reprobate
men shall not prevail. They shall not come to pass.
Now as we look at these 25 verses together, let me call your attention
to five things as we go through these verses. First, in verses
one and two, we meet with an evil confederacy. Israel and
Syria, that is the northern kingdom of Israel, Israel and Syria,
formed an evil confederacy to march against the southern kingdom
of Judah. Israel had long ago been given
over to idolatry, and now Judah is. They joined forces to destroy
Judah, where there yet remained people who at least professed
to worship God, and where there yet remained a people, a remnant
who indeed did worship God. Their failed assault is recorded
in 2 Kings chapter 16. These two nations, Syria and
Judah, or Syria and Israel, hated each other. They despised each
other. Normally, they would have been
in opposition to each other in everything. Normally, you'd find
them fighting one another. But they were united in opposition
to Judah. So it is today. So it has been
throughout history. So it shall be as long as the
world stands. The world is united in opposition
to our God, his Christ, and his people. The whole world is united,
but the enemies of God's church are never successful. Why is
it so hard for us to realize that? History has proved it again
and again and again. The whole world is united against
God's cause, God's people, God's church, God's gospel, God's kingdom,
but it has never been successful and never shall be. Let's read
verses one and two. And it came to pass in the days
of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah,
that Rezin, the king of Syria, and Pekah, the son of Remaliah,
king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it,
but could not prevail against it. And it was told the house
of David, that is the men and women of Judah, people over whom
Ahaz was king, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim.
Syria has joined forces with Ephraim and his heart, that is
Ahaz the king of Judah, his heart was moved and the heart of his
people as trees of the wood are moved with the wind. Satan's
intent was to utterly destroy the house of David. That was
his purpose. His design was to destroy the
house of David, hoping by his craftedness to prevent the Lord
Jesus Christ from coming into this world, the seed of the woman,
as the promised seed of David, according to the flesh. Remember
Ahaz, king of Judah, was wicked, idolatrous, abominable. You can
read about him causing his sons to pass through the fire to Moloch
in 2 Kings 1. Ahaz and his people, hearing
about this confederacy, were scared to death. They were tossed
to and fro, bent and thrown down like trees are bent with the
wind. They had felt the power of these confederate kings before
and they were terrified. David himself would have been
confident. David himself would have laughed
at them. David himself would have picked
up and gone to war with them in a moment. But the house of
David had gone a-whoring after other gods, and that caused them
to have no confidence. Ahaz had cast off the fear of
God, That made him subject to the fear of anything, to the
fear of any man, to the fear of any mortal. Ahaz leaned upon
the arm of the flesh, seeking the help of Tiglath-Pileser,
looking to Babylon to help him. We must never, never, never follow
the example of that wicked man. I'm just waiting to get your
attention because I want you to hear this. Compromise never
does anything to advance God's calls and God's kingdom. Compromise never does anything
to advance God's calls and God's kingdom. Never, never. God's servants are men. who must
never bend or bow or scrape before men, never, not in the least
degree. Our enemies are many. A confederacy
of evil assaults us, the world, the flesh, and the devil incessantly. Our only refuge is God our Savior. Our only weapon of warfare is
the gospel of his grace. And with the gospel of God's
grace, we do not kowtow before men, but rather we charge the
very gates of hell. We assault the very gates of
hell, and the gates of hell fall before the church of God. All
right, let's look at verses three through six. Here we read about
an unbelieving rebel, this King Ahaz, the wicked king of Judah. Then said the Lord unto Isaiah,
go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou and Sheer-Jasub thy son. Now
you'll see down in verse 16, this boy Sheer-Jasub, he wasn't
a 16, 17 year old boy. He was just a little fella. He
was just a little fella. He didn't know his right hand
from his left yet. He was just a little fella. He said, you
take Sheer-Jasub your son. Now, somewhere, if you don't
have it in the margin of your Bible, a note telling you this,
you need to write this down. His name means a remnant shall
return. He says, Isaiah, you go to meet
Ahaz, and take your baby boy with you. Shear Jason at the
end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's
field. And say to him, say to Ahaz,
take heed. Pay attention now, and be quiet,
be quiet, be quiet. Fear not, neither be faint hearted,
for the tales of these smoking firebrands, the tales of these smoking firebrands,
wonderfully does God describe these mighty foes, mighty foes. I mean, these are two Goliaths,
these mighty foes. God says they're the tails of
two smoking firebrands. They're just the tail, they've
already been set on fire, they're burnt out, they're just smoking
firebrands. For the fierce anger of Risen
with Syria, and of the son of Ramaliah, Don't be afraid of
him, because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Ramaliah have
taken evil counsel against thee, saying, let us go up against
Judah and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us.
That is, let's destroy Judah and make room for ourselves.
and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tibial."
Now, we don't have any idea who this son of Tibial was, or even
who Tabial was. Tabial, just a name given. So
insignificant, God doesn't mention him anywhere else. But they said,
let's go set this man's son in the place of the king of Judah,
and let's make a room for ourselves among those people who claim
to be God's people. The Lord God sent his prophet
Ahaz with a promise. Sent him with a promise. Thereby
leaving Ahaz without excuse in his unbelief. Now hear me. God help you to
hear me. If you go to hell, you go to
hell without excuse. If you go to hell, you go to
hell without excuse. What about folks who've never
heard the gospel? They had the light of creation and the light
of conscience and refused to walk in that. And then God sends
others the light of his word, the light of the gospel of his
grace. And they say, we will not hear God. We won't worship
him. You'll go to hell with no excuse. but be sure you don't miss God's
purpose in sending Isaiah to Ahaz. Isaiah was commanded to
take his young boy, Shurjasim, this small boy with him. How
come? Shurjasim's name means the remnant
shall return. You see, God always has a secret
purpose. God always has a secret purpose. He always has a hidden agenda,
not hidden from his people, hidden from the world, hidden from the
unbelieving. I often will ask friends. I don't try to trick folks into
things by asking questions like folks do in debate, but I was
talking to Brother Frank Hall a few weeks ago, conversing about
some things, and I asked him a couple of questions. And after,
oh, a couple of weeks of correspondence back and forth, I said, that's
the reason I asked you the question. I wanted you to come to the right
conclusion, so I asked the question. I had a hidden agenda. My agenda
was good, but it was hidden because I wanted you to come to this
and see it for yourself. God Almighty in the rule of this
world always has a hidden agenda. He sent Isaiah to Ahaz to show
his people his agenda and to remind them that he does all
things for the salvation of his elect. All the time Isaiah was
talking to Ahaz, I can almost picture him. I can almost picture
him. He's got Shear-Jasub by him.
The boy might be tall enough he could reach down and put his
hand on his head. And all the time he's talking
to him, he's got his hand and pushing Shear-Jasub out in front
of him. He said, this is my boy, Shear-Jasub. His name means arraignment
shall return. Risen in Pekah will not succeed. Syria and Israel will not destroy
Judah. God's people shall not be hurt. God's calls shall not be overturned. God's elect shall not be harmed,
but only helped. Isaiah was commanded to meet
Ahaz at a specific place, at the end of the conduit of the
upper pool at the highway of Fuller's Field. That is, at the
intersection of Upper Pool and Fullers Field Highway, you go
meet this king. This was the very place, if you
look in 2 Kings 18, the very place where Rabshakeh later stood
and blasphemed God and mocked him before Judah. The Lord God
always sends his servants to a specific place. to meet specific
people with a specific message. God said to Ahaz, take heed,
be quiet, don't be afraid. The purpose of these godless
reprobates shall not stand. Believe God. Believe God. He said Christ is coming. We'll
see it in just a minute. He said Christ is coming. The
woman's seed is coming. David's seed is coming. He's
coming to redeem and save his people. His name is Immanuel. God with us. Behave yourself
and believe God. He speaks to Ahaz specifically,
and he says to him, I've spoken to you for a purpose. God always
sends his messengers to a specific place at a specific time with
a specific message for a specific purpose, always. I pray that
God will always, every time I stand to preach, send me. with a specific
message for specific people at a specific time. I'm planning
to go down and preach to my family and friends I've known for a
long, long time Saturday at my sister's funeral. I don't want to go and just fill
the time and perform the duty. Will you pray, God will send
me? in the power of His Spirit. And if He does, He does it for
a specific purpose, for one of two purposes. You're here for
one purpose or the other of these two. You're hearing this message
for one of these two purposes, either the salvation of your
soul or to bind up tares for the burning. One of the two. Either in grace or in judgment. God never sends his word for
no reason. Never. My word shall not return
to me void. That's his word. Look at verse
seven. Thus saith the Lord God, it shall
not stand. The evil designs of these evil
men shall not stand. Neither shall it come to pass.
For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. And within threescore and five
years shall Ephraim be broken. That is in 35 years. Before 35 years is over, I'm
gonna break Ephraim. Ephraim, join to his idols, leave
him alone. Let it be not a people. And the
head of Ephraim is Samaria. And the head of Samaria is this
boasting, prating fool, Ramaliah's son. Now watch this word. If you will not believe, surely
you shall not be established. The counsel of the Lord, that
shall stand, not the counsel of men. The counsel of the Lord
will stand when the wise acres of the world are taken in their
own craftiness. He that sitteth in the heavens
shall laugh. The Lord shall have them in derision.
Isn't that a wonderful word from God? In Psalm 2, the heathen
rage, and they set themselves against the Lord and His anointed.
They're determined to destroy God and His throne, and God sits
in heaven and laughs. He'll have them in derision.
Whether Ahaz believed or refused to believe, God's purpose was
sure. Syria would be destroyed. Ephraim
would be left to her idols. God's elect, will be kept, preserved,
and saved. Christ shall accomplish his work. If you believe not, you shall
perish. That's God's word to Ahaz. That's
God's word to you. If you will not believe, surely
you shall not be established. Here's the third thing. Isaiah
gives us a sign from God, a sign about the incarnation of our
blessed Savior, the Lord Jesus, Emmanuel. Look at verse 10. Moreover, the Lord spake again
unto Ahaz, saying, ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God. Ask it either
in the depth or in the height above. Ask for a miracle, ask
it. But Ahaz said, now here is Ahaz. I never cease to be amazed at
how the most godless men, the most godless women pretend godliness. How the most unrighteous pretend
righteousness. How the most unsanctified pretend
to be sanctified. How the most vile pretend to
be holy. Ahaz, this man who worshiped
Moloch, this man who worshiped every image he could think of
worshiping. There wasn't a God around he
didn't worship except God. He said, I will not ask, neither will
I tempt the Lord. Oh no, I reverence God too much
to do that. I couldn't do that. God commands
him, ask something miraculous. And he says, I couldn't tempt
God to do that, no, no, no. And he said, verse 13, hear ye
now, O house of David, is it a small thing for you to weary
men? But will you weary my God also? Wearying God with idolatry. Weary in God with pride weary
in God with refusal to believe him. Will you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall
give you a sign Here's a miracle. Here is a miracle You wouldn't
ask, I'll give you a sign anyway. Here's a miracle, you said I
won't tempt the Lord, God's given you a sign. A sign that you can't
possibly misunderstand unless you just determine not to. A
sign you can't possibly be confused about. Behold, a virgin, a virgin
shall conceive. Who ever heard of such a thing?
Nobody ever heard of such a thing. A virgin shall conceive and bear
a son and shall call his name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall
he eat that he may know to refuse the evil and choose the good. Ahaz despised God for pretending
to worship him. But God's heart was set to do
his people good. And though this reprobate king
would not hearken to the voice of God's prophet, the Lord gave
him a sign. He gave his people a sign, a
sign that no one could possibly misunderstand. Mr. Spurgeon, once commenting on
this 14th verse of Isaiah 7, he said, I have heard men say,
it's the most difficult verse in the Bible to understand. And
he said, I never dreamed that was the case until I read what
men say about it. The first time I read Isaiah
7, 14, I was maybe 17 years old. The first time I read it. And
you know what? I understood it perfectly well.
Never had thought about it. Understood it perfectly. Who
can misunderstand it? It's written as plain as it can
be. The Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold, a virgin
shall conceive, a virgin, a woman who never knew a man, a virgin
shall conceive. And she shall bear a son. She's
going to carry in her womb a son, the son of God and the son of
man, David's Lord and David's son. And she shall call his name
Immanuel. This son she carries in her womb. When he's brought forth into
this world, he's going to be called Immanuel. Now, search
the scriptures over and find me somewhere where he was called
Emmanuel. Find me someplace where he was
called Emmanuel. You won't find it. There might be a reference
to him with the use of that word in chapter eight. But the word
is never used by anyone calling the Lord Jesus, God the Son,
the incarnate God, Emmanuel. How come? Because it's not the
calling of the name that's important, it's what the message of the
name is. His name is God with us. Here is God with us, God
dwelling with man, God with us in our nature, God like us, this
one who will eat butter and honey. Wow, that's mysterious, that's
strange. What does that mean? Well, we
went down to Famous Recipe today for lunch, Shelby and I did.
And I can't have it, because I can't have the honey. Once
in a while, I'll sneak a little bite. But every time I order
a chicken and get the biscuits, I say to the girl, give this
sweet thing lots of butter and honey. She can eat all she wants,
so it doesn't bother her a bit. And she always squeezes out a
few packs of honey and butter and mixes it together and covers
the biscuit up. And I'm sitting there drooling, you know, and
enjoys it. What's the mystery? Not any.
He's gonna be just like any other man. He's gonna eat butter and
honey just like you would, who can resist it. He's just gonna
be just like any other man. And he'll grow up as a man and
learn his right hand from his left, just like any other man
would. Now, understand this, throughout the days of old, from
the beginning of time and throughout the Old Testament Scriptures
by gradual progressive revelation. That's a $10 word from a 50 cent
math, but that just simply means that God, little by little, revealed
Christ in the Old Testament Scriptures. He's called the woman seed. And
then he's called Abraham's seed. And then he's called one who
come from the house of Jacob. And not just from the house of
Jacob, he's gonna come from the tribe of Judah. He's going to
be born in Bethlehem of Judah. This one who is the woman's seed
will be a prophet like Moses, a priest like Melchizedek. He'll
be the king of Israel from David's house sitting on David's throne.
He will be a king like Solomon, a prince of peace. He will be
born before the civil government is taken away from Israel, before
the lawgiver departs from the feet of Judah, before the temple
is destroyed, right in the middle of Daniel's 70th week. and he
will accomplish these things. He'll finish transgression. He'll
make an end of sins. He'll make reconciliation for
iniquity. He'll bring in everlasting righteousness.
He'll seal up the vision and prophecy. He will anoint the
most holy. He, the most holy one, will have
the spirit of God upon him without measure, and he will anoint his
people with his spirit, giving us that unction from on high
by which we know all things as the most holy, made holy by God
himself. Now this prophecy is fulfilled
over here in Matthew chapter one. Matthew chapter one. No
human being, no human being could meet all of those things I've
just recited to you from the scriptures, except the man, Jesus
of Nazareth. No other human being could meet
all of those things, but our Savior does, in Matthew 1.18.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise. When his mother
Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, that
is while she was still a virgin, she was found with child of the
Holy Ghost. That was kind of shocking to
her, his spoused husband. But Joseph knew he had never slept
with Mary. And he's got to have been shocked. Then Joseph, her
husband, being a just man, and not willing to make a public
example, not willing to shame her publicly, he was a just man,
kind, gracious man. He was minded to put her away
privately. Here she is, we're engaged to be married, she turns
up pregnant, what am I gonna do? While he thought on those
things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in
a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take
unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her
is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth the
Son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save
his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it
might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet
Isaiah, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall
bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which
being interpreted is God with us. Then in verses 16 through
25, We read about the justly deserved destruction of both
Syria and Ephraim and the desolation of Judah. Verse 16, for before
the child, now this is not referring to the child that Mary is carrying
in her womb, but rather referring to Isaiah's little boy, Sir Jason. Before this boy shall know to
refuse the evil and choose the good. Before he becomes a man,
that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings." Before that boy became a man,
Syria and Ephraim would be brought to ruin, brought to ruin by their
own hands, brought to ruin by the justice of God. Now understand
me, understand the teaching of this book. When God brings judgment,
it is always just judgment. God always does right. He will not bring any judgment
upon anyone who doesn't fully deserve it. And he won't send
anyone to hell who doesn't fully deserve to go to hell. And he
won't save anyone who doesn't fully deserve his salvation through
Jesus Christ, his son. Verse 17. The Lord shall bring
upon thee and upon thy people and upon thy father's house days
that have not come from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah,
even the king of Assyria. And it shall come to pass that
in that day that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in the
uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt. and for the bee that
is in the land of Assyria. And they shall come and shall
rest all of them in the desolate valleys and in the holes of the
rocks and upon the thorns and upon all the bushes. In the same
day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired. He's gonna
shave with a razor he's hired. And namely by them beyond the
river. by the king of Assyria, the head
and the hair of the feet, and it shall also consume the beard.
And it shall come to pass in that day that a man shall nourish
a young cow and two sheep. And it shall come to pass that
for the abundance of the milk that they shall give, he shall
eat butter for butter and honey, shall everyone eat that is left
in the land, just enough. And it shall come to pass in
that day that every place shall be where there were a thousand
vines at a thousand silverlings, a thousand vines that bring you
a lot of money. It shall even be for briars and
thorns. With arrows and with bows shall
men come thither because all the land shall become briars
and thorns. and on all the hills that shall
be digged with the mattock. Can't use a plow among those
briars and thorns, they're too thick. No fences planted. There shall not come thither
the fear of briars and thorns, but it shall be for the sending
forth of oxen and for the treading of lesser cattle. That is, all
the beast will break through and consume the land. God called
Egypt's mighty army a fly. And they called Syria a bee. A fly and a bee. Now they can
be a nuisance, but I haven't yet seen the fly or the bee I
was afraid of. Just a fly, just a bee. But this
fly and this bee, God used them to terrify Ahaz. God made that
insignificant fly and that insignificant bee instruments of judgment against
Judah, bringing the rebellious, unbelieving people to desolation. A hired razor. Hired by God's
hand to shave off the hair and the beard, even the hair off
your feet. Ahaz and his folly looked to
the Assyrians for help. He tried to purchase their help.
He took treasures out of the house of God and brought them
to Tiglath-Pileser and said, please come over and help us.
Our God can't take care of us. You come help us. Therefore the
Lord hissed for that insignificant being and made him an instrument
of judgment against Judah. Ahaz feared the weapons of men. So God used a fly to overthrow
his kingdom. If you don't find some humor
in that, I don't know where you'll find it. He used a fly to overthrow
his kingdom. I recall years ago, back when
we used to have Sunday school contest, a friend of mine, Brother
Dusty Rose was holding a meeting in one of those Armenian whoopee
churches and they were having packed the pew Sunday and they
promised to give away a pony. They promised to give away a
pony to the child who brought the most children to Sunday school.
And so they brought the preachers are dumb animals. They brought
the pony into the church house and brought him right down to
the altar. And he did his business right there on the altar. And
Dusty just laughed out loud. He said, don't tell me God doesn't
have a sense of humor. God says, hey, this is just a fly. But
it's a fly in my hand and he'll destroy you. He'll destroy you. Oh, for grace to read these things
with some spiritual understanding. God in judgment. takes those
things that should be for a person's benefits and good, and turns
those very things that ought to be beneficial to your soul
into instruments of judgment. God sent Isaiah to Ahaz. And
he said, now you go tell Ahaz who I am. You tell Ahaz about
my son. You tell Ahaz what my son's going
to accomplish. You tell Ahaz my purpose is sure. and Ahaz would not believe. Ahaz had the temple of God right
in front of his eyes and he refused to worship God. The fertile land
of Judah, that which should have been prosperity itself is turned
to briars and thorns. The foundation stone on which
we are built is to many a rock of offense and a stone of stumbling. Multitudes, multitudes stumble
over Christ the foundation stone and perish. But there's something
else. Look at verses 21 and 22 again.
The Lord God graciously promises to preserve a remnant even while
destroying the nation. And it shall come to pass in
that day that a man shall nourish a young cow and two sheep. And it shall come to pass for
the abundance of milk they shall give. That is, this is all the
milk they're going to get. This is all they're going to
get from a young cow and two sheep. Just enough to give him
butter, for butter and honey shall everyone eat that's left
in the land. God said, I will give enough to preserve my people. I'll keep them. They're secure
all as well. So it was of old and so it is
now. And so it shall be until time
shall be no more. There is a remnant, according
to the election of grace, a remnant loved of God, chosen to salvation,
sanctified from everlasting, redeemed by the precious blood
of Christ, preserved and kept in Christ, who must be called. And while God is destroying the
nations. And we read it every day. Oh,
the judgment God brings upon nations. I know to the ear of
most people in this world I sound like a Bible-thumping fool. Oh,
if you can read the newspaper tomorrow morning and not understand
that we're a nation under the judgment of God, a generation
under the judgment of God, you're as blind as Ahaz. But in the
midst of judgment, God remembers mercy. and he preserves his elect. He says the remnant shall return. What's God doing? Here's his
secret agenda. He's doing everything exactly
right. He's doing everything exactly
right, exactly on schedule. Here we are at the intersection
of the conduit of Upper Poole and Fuller's Field Highway. at
the intersection of Old Stanford Road and 150 Bypass, and I've
given you God's message. Will you abandon your idols and
trust God's Son, or will you go on wearying God with obstinate
unbelief and be forever damned? If you will not believe, surely
you shall not be established. Oh, may God give you grace to
do what you cannot do and what you must do. May God reveal his
son in you and make Christ to be to you, Emmanuel. God with us. God with us. As I was wrapping the message
up in my studies this evening, I kept remembering Mabel's words
to Shelby. I'm in Christ and Christ is in
me. Everything's all right. I'm in Christ and Christ is in
me. Everything is exactly right. Exactly right. Amen.
About Don Fortner
Don Fortner (1950-2020) served as teacher and pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Danville, Kentucky.
Pristine Grace functions as a digital library of preaching and teaching from many different men and ministries. I maintain a broad collection for research, study, and listening, and the presence of any preacher or message here should not be taken as a blanket endorsement of every doctrinal position expressed.
I publish my own convictions openly and without hesitation throughout this site and in my own preaching and writing. This archive is not a denominational clearinghouse. My aim in maintaining it is to preserve historic and contemporary preaching, encourage careful study, and above all direct readers and listeners to the person and work of Christ.
