What's the meaning of this? That's
the title of my message. What's the meaning of this? Every
Sunday evening, we come together as a body of believers to worship
our God. And at the conclusion of every
Sunday evening service, we have since first I came here, Observe
the Lord's table every Sunday night. What's the meaning of
this? It is not required in scripture
that we observe the table every Sunday, every Lord's Day evening. That was, however, the practice
in the New Testament, and I see no reason for us not to practice
it as it was then. It is required only that we observe
this blessed ordinance often. But the scriptures clearly show
us in the New Testament, the early church broke bread every
Lord's Day. And so we keep this feast every
Sunday evening. What's the meaning of it all?
Turn to Exodus Chapter 12, and we'll find some answers to that
question. In this passage, God's servant Moses conveyed to the
children of Israel the instructions God had given him with regard
to the deliverance of the children of Israel out of the land of
bondage and the way in which they were to observe the Lord's
Passover, both originally and in all future generations. Now,
do not be mistaken. When we come to the Lord's table,
we are not keeping the Passover feast. That's been done a long
time ago. And yet, the Passover was in
many ways instructive with regard to the Lord's Supper, for it
was that, the equivalent of it in the Old Testament. And our
Lord, as he brought the Passover to its conclusion, as he finished
the law and satisfied all its demands for us, instituted the
Lord's Supper for us as an ordinance from throughout our generations. This whole affair was by God's
design typical of our Lord Jesus Christ who is our Passover, who
has sacrificed for us. It was typical of our redemption
by His blood and our deliverance by His grace. Now let's read
our text together and then I'll make a few comments on it. Beginning
at verse 15, Exodus the 12th chapter. Seven days shall ye eat the feast
of unleavened bread. Even the first day you shall
put away leaven out of your houses. For whosoever eateth leaven bread
from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall
be cut off from Israel. Leaven is something men mix with
that which God provides. And if you do that with regard
to God's salvation, you're going to hell. The leaven of the Pharisees
Essentially, it's just that. It is the mixing of what I do
with what God does, which is a denial of what God does. So at the very outset of instruction,
Moses says, no, God says, if you eat any leaven while you're
celebrating redemption, you eat anything you mix with the meal
I make, I'll send you to hell. And in the first day, there shall
be a holy convocation, a holy gathering. And in the seventh
day, there shall be a holy convocation to you. No matter of work shall
be done in them. That's the same thing as we already
said. Mix in 11 in the meal. No matter of work. You can't
worship God while attempting to work your way into God's acceptance. It can't be done. No matter of
work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat,
that only may be done of you. And you shall observe the feast
of unleavened bread, for in this selfsame day have I brought your
armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore shall you observe this
day in your generations by an ordinance forever. In the first
month, on the 14th day of the month at evening time, you shall
eat unleavened bread until the 1 and 20th day of the month at
evening. Seven days shall there be no
leaven found in your houses. For whosoever eateth that which
is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation
of Israel, whether he be a stranger or born in the land. You shall
eat nothing leavened. In all your habitations shall
you eat unleavened bread. Then Moses called for all the
elders of Israel and said unto them, draw out and take you a
lamb. Each of you take a lamb according
to your families. and kill the Passover with your
own hands, kill the Passover, and you shall take a bunch of
hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin and strike
the lentil and the two side posts with the blood that is in the
basin. And none of you shall go out
at the door of his house until the morning, for the Lord will
pass through to smite the Egyptians And when he seeeth the blood
upon the lintel and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass
over the door and will not suffer the destroyer to come in into
your houses to smite you. And ye shall observe this thing
for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons forever. And it shall
come to pass when ye be come to the land, which the Lord will
give you according as he hath promised. You shall keep this
service, and it shall come to pass when at last you come to
the land of Canaan, when your children shall say unto you,
what mean ye by this service? Your children will, Daddy, why
are we doing this? Why do we go up to Jerusalem
every year? Every year, watch that high priest take the paschal
lamb, slit its throat, catch its blood, and go inside the
tabernacle or into the temple. Why do we do this every year?
What mean ye by this service? In our day, you who yet believe
not, young people and older as well, what's the meaning of this? It shall, you shall say it is
the sacrifice of the Lord's Passover who passed over the houses of
the children of Israel in Egypt. This is how God redeemed us.
This is how God saved us. When he smoked the Egyptians
and delivered our houses and the people bowed the head and
worshiped. And the children of Israel went
away and did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. So did they. Now, let me give
you a few delightful highlights, which are obvious to anyone who
reads these verses with spiritual understanding. As this was the
beginning of much to the Jews, the changing of their calendar,
so the experience of redemption, The experience of grace. The
experience of salvation. And I emphasize the word experience. Because you know nothing of redemption
until it's experienced. You know nothing of grace until
it's experienced. You know nothing of God's salvation
until it's experienced. I didn't say those things depend
on the experience. They do not. We were redeemed
by Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, before the world began.
Never was a time when we were not one with him. Brother Ron
and I were talking about that back in the office a little bit
ago. Never was a time. when God dealt with his elect
outside Christ, outside redemption, outside grace. But we didn't
know anything about it. We were redeemed by the precious
blood of Christ at Calvary. He put our sins away once and
for all with finality when he died upon the cursed tree. But
we knew nothing about it until we came to experience it. The atonement was finished when
he said it's finished. But we didn't know anything about
it until we received the atonement by faith in Christ. The experience
of grace is the beginning of all things new for every saved
sinner. If any man be in Christ, he's
a new creature. A new creature. Old things are
passed away. Behold, all things are become
new. Now, imaginary theologians like
to banter about scripture, right? And the older I get, the more
I despise their bantering. Well, is that talking about reconciliation? Is that talking about redemption?
Is that talking about the new birth? Is that talking about
the new nature? Is that talking about a new record?
Yes. Yes. It's never wrong. It is never wrong to take the
declarations of God's grace and run just as far with them as
you can run. Now that's a safe rule of interpretive
scripture. Whenever God declares something,
declares some work of grace, declares some wonder of mercy,
just stretch that just as far as you can. And you hadn't got
close to stretching it far enough yet. This is the beginning of
life for us when God opens our hearts and drops His grace into
our souls, planting Christ in us. That's not hard for any of
you to grasp, is it? I never knew what life was before.
All I knew was death and misery, but now life and God has made
me glad through His work. Every man in Israel, every man
in Israel had to have a lamb of sacrifice. The father of each household
had to seize a lamb and kill it for his family with his own
hands. Even so, we must have a lamb
of sacrifice. And that lamb is Jesus Christ,
the Lamb of God. This 12th chapter of Exodus,
It's one of those chapters I have no hope of expanding it with
any clarity or fullness. It is just bursting with meaning.
It's one of those chapters you don't even have to look for Christ,
you have to close your eyes to miss it. The Lamb was selected
and provided and slaughtered by the Father of the house. Even
so, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, was selected and
provided and slaughtered by his father's own hand, who cried,
awake, O sword, against the man that is my fellow, smite, enslave
the shepherd. The lamb had to be a male in
the first year, in the prime and full vigor of life. And so
our Lord Jesus laid down his life as a man in the prime and
full vigor of his life, having established perfect righteousness
for us. The Lamb must be without spot and without blemish. Spotless
Lamb of God is our Savior, holy, unblameable, and unreprovable.
The Lamb had to be slain, not just killed, but slaughtered. It had to die a violent death. It had to be slaughtered by the
father of the house. And so our Lord Jesus Christ
was by the hand of his father and our father, the father of
his house, delivered to the hands of wicked men and crucified and
slain for us. Here's the third thing. The blood
had to be applied. And I get back to this thing
of experience again. Redemption accomplished will
do no one any good until redemption is applied. Let it sink in and
sink in good. Redemption accomplished will
profit you nothing until it is applied. And this is where most
of the commentators and most of the comments men make about
this passage run astray. They say, yes, the blood was
shed, but the blood must be applied. You've got to apply the blood.
Hold on. Read the chapter again. Who was
it who applied the blood? The same fellow who killed the
lamb applied the blood. And so it is in the gracious
operations of our God. He who selected and provided
and slaughtered and accepted the lamb is the same one who
sprinkles the blood on the hearts of his people and effectually
applies the blood to his own. God the Holy Spirit comes and
sprinkles the hearts of chosen redeemed sinners speaking peace
to the conscience, declaring, this has purged away your sins. Now, fourth, the lamb had to
be eaten. Turn to John chapter 6 for a
moment. Let's look at this again. This eating of the lamb is a
picture of faith in Jesus Christ. It is eating Christ our Passover
who is sacrificed for us. John 6 verse 53. Then Jesus said
unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, except you eat the
flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in
you. Now don't confuse that with eating
and drinking the Lord's Supper. That's not what he's talking
about. Our Lord Jesus is talking about faith in him. The Lord's
Supper had not yet been instituted. He says, except you eat the flesh
of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. What on earth is he talking about? By his obedience in this world. Walking in this world in human
flesh, in our nature, the Son of God fulfilled all righteousness
as our representative, as our covenant head and our surety,
and brought in everlasting righteousness by his obedience unto death.
And there was more that was required for him to bring in righteousness.
He had to die. He poured out His life's blood,
and by the sacrifice of Himself, He satisfied divine justice,
obtained eternal redemption for us, and made us the very righteousness
of God in Himself. Now, this is what faith does.
Faith takes His righteousness. Faith takes His blood and eats
it with delight. As a matter of fact, I was visiting
with some friends recently. A young man asked me about one
of the songs that was singing. I said, well, this implies we
have to choose him. You do. You do. Well, this implies that sinners
have to actually take Christ. You do. You do. Well, this implies,
Brother Don, the way you're talking now, you talk as though sinners
must actually, deliberately, willingly believe Christ. Yeah. Yeah. You must. Who ever heard
tell somebody not believing willingly? Who ever heard tell somebody
not receiving willingly? You don't receive something unwilling.
You receive it willingly. Now, you may receive something
passively and not know you got it. But if you reach out and
take it, you reach out and take it because you want to. And those
two words are used throughout scripture. It was illustrated
and I don't know better. This glass received some water
just a little while ago. Well, what did it do to receive
it? Not a frazzling thing. It was poured into the glass.
It was just a receptacle. And that's how grace comes into
our hearts. We receive Christ by the Spirit
of God sovereignly invading our hearts, giving us life by Christ
establishing his kingdom in us. And now watch this. I'm a little
thirsty. I'm fixing to receive some water.
Ah, that's good. Do you know why I drank that
water? Because I wanted it. I was perfectly willing to have
it. There was a thirst inside me that said, drink a little
water, I'll be able to do it again. Now this is what the book says, to
as many as received him, to as many as reached out and took
him by faith, that's the word, to them gave he power, the authority,
the right, the privilege to be called or to be the sons of God. Just as soon as he by his grace
makes you willing In the day of His power, and you receive
Him, you have the right to become the sons of God. You have the
right to say, God is my Father. You mean, if a man wants Christ,
takes Him, receives Him, believes Him for himself, he's God's? You got it. Do you want Him? Do you want His righteousness?
Do you want His atonement? Do you want His blood? Do you
want His salvation? Reach out and take Him. God says, lay hold on eternal
life. Receive the Son of God. Now,
the most important aspect of this whole affair was the blood. The precious, precious lifeblood
of the Paschal Lamb. Look at verse 22. Back up to
verse 13. The blood shall be to you for
a token upon the houses where you are. And when I see the blood,
I will pass over you. And the plague shall not be upon
you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt. Verse 22.
And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood
that is in the basin, and strike the lentil in the two side posts
with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall
go out at the door of his house until the morning, for the Lord
will pass through to smite the Egyptians. And when he seeth
the blood upon the lentil and on the two side posts, the Lord
will pass over the door and will not suffer the destroyer to come
in into your houses to smite you. The blood shall be to you
for a token. When God the Holy Spirit comes
and sprinkles the blood on your conscience, giving you faith
in Jesus Christ. The blood is a token of righteousness
established, justice satisfied, sins forgiven, a covenant fulfilled,
love, infinite, eternal, unchanging, the love of God for you. And
the Lord God says, when I see the blood, I will pass over you. And this is an ordinance, God
said, for Israel to keep forever, to be kept perpetually throughout
their generations in remembrance and in celebration of redemption
and for the deliverance of their souls out of Egypt. It was a
memorial feast and a hopeful feast of anticipation. It was
a covenant feast, a feast for a covenant people. Look at verse
40 of chapter 12. Now the sojourning of the children
of Israel who dwelt in Egypt was 430 years. And it came to
pass at the end of 430 years, even the self same day, it came
to pass that all the host of the Lord went out from the land
of Egypt. And it is a night to be much
observed unto the Lord for bringing them out from the land of Egypt.
This is that night of the Lord to be observed of all the children
of Israel throughout their generations. It was a covenant feast. of a
Sabbath, a time of great rest, a covenant feast for a single
family, for the children of Israel. There shall no stranger eat thereof. All the congregation of Israel
shall keep it. Then in verse 26, we read this,
and it shall come to pass when your children shall say unto
you, what mean ye by this service? You tell them. You tell them.
Now, let me tell you what we mean by the observance of the
Lord's Supper, which sprang from this Passover observance, which
was given for the very same reason, as a celebration of redemption
in remembrance of the Redeemer as a family feast for his people. In spiritual worship, knowledge
is essential. I spend a good bit of time, I
spend my life studying, seeking to understand this book, seeking
a message from God for you. And I make no apology for declaring
to you the doctrine of Holy Scripture. A man who doesn't preach doctrine
doesn't preach. A man who doesn't preach that
which is taught in the word of God. That's what the word doctrine
means. It's teaching. Man who doesn't teach that which
is taught in the Word of God is not a pastor, and he doesn't
preach. He's got no business standing
in the pulpit anywhere. I preach to you the doctrine
of Scripture, the doctrine of Jesus Christ crucified, because
you cannot worship God spiritually except you worship God with understanding. So many times, I haven't been
around any of these things in a long time, but I've heard People
talk about little children. Some con artist gets to make
a profession of faith and they're going to be baptized and they
don't have a clue why. They don't have the slightest
clue why. Well, we've got to baptize them so that they can
confess Christ. You can't confess what you don't
know. And if you don't understand the meaning of baptism, don't
do it. Don't do it. Don't understand what it signifies,
don't do it. So it is with the Lord's Supper. We eat the bread
and drink the wine of the Lord's Supper for a specific purpose,
for divinely given reasons in Holy Scripture. Natural men,
unbelieving men, are content with rituals. And we all naturally
gravitate toward ritualism and the idolatry of mere ritualism.
And we ought to avoid that. Because if we come here in a
Just observe the Lord's Supper, observe baptism, read the scriptures,
pray, preach, or listen to preaching. Sing our songs or hear others
sing. Without understanding, it's utterly
meaningless. Read the first chapter of Isaiah.
God speaks of it as the work of sodomites. He said, who required
this from you? Who asked you to come pray, to
spread your courts in my house? Who asked you to worship me?
He said, you men of Sodom. That is to say, the act of worship,
a mere form of godliness, is nothing but idolatry. Let us
come to the house of God and pray for grace to worship our
God with understanding in spirit and in truth. In order to truly
worship him, In the observance of the Lord's Supper, we must
understand its significance. So let me make just a few statements,
just plain statements concerning this. The Lord's Supper is not
a sacrament, number one. I suggest, I know that some of
you have jotten them down, I suggest you jot down these eight or nine
statements and keep them where you can look at them often. The
Lord's Supper is not a sacrament. The word sacrament means a visible
sign of inward grace. That means if you take this bread
and wine, it's a sign that grace is inside you. The word sacrament
means a means of grace. This is that by which grace is
conferred to you. The word sacrament means that
by which grace is conveyed to people. Several years ago, I
went down to preach to churches in Mexico, as I'm going to in
just a couple of weeks, and Brother Cody asked me to address the
preacher school and gave me three hours to deal with the ordinances
of the gospel. He said, it's very important
that you deal with these things, and Dad and I would like you
to deal with them. He said, the folks who translated Brother
Mahan's commentaries, when they translated the word ordinance,
Everywhere they translated it. They translated it not ordinitsia,
but sacramenta. Everywhere. And there was, it
was obviously deliberate. It was obviously deliberate.
And he said it's caused considerable discussion among the preachers.
And this is a matter of importance. The papist observed sacraments. And the daughters of Rome. observe sacraments. They take
the bread and the wine of the Lord's Supper, they take the
waters of baptism, if they ever get enough water to even call
it anything like baptism, and they call this a sacrament. This
is the means by which sinners can have grace conveyed to them. And the reason they call them
sacraments is because that's what they really believe. They
believe somehow You know, like the Lord's Supper, this is all the solemn, serious, and
it is, but not dreadful and fearful. They tell us this is a means
of grace by which sinners are elevated spiritually. by which
they draw nearer to God, and by which grace somehow is conveyed
by eating bread and drinking wine. No more so than if you
ate a piece of bread and drank wine at the local restaurant.
No more so. It is not a sacrament. It is
an ordinance. What's the difference? It's something
the master requires. It is an act of obedience to
him. You say, well, boy, that's not much. Why don't you ask your
daddy about that? What's the best way for a child
to show reverence to his parents? Do what they say. Just do what
they say. The reason they bust your bottom
when you don't is because it shows irreverence for them. It
shows rebellion in you. And first and foremost, we learn
to obey God our Savior. and we observe his ordinances.
The same is true with regard to baptism. But grace is a convert
in these things. Grace is not conveyed in these
things. And grace is not somehow, these
ordinances are not somehow visible signs of inward grace. In fact,
the Lord's Supper and baptism Both of these ordinances have
nothing to do with inward grace. Now somebody's going to hear
that and they're going to jump and I'll get telephone calls and
I'll get, what do you mean got nothing to do with inward grace?
Read the scriptures. Both of them refer to something
totally outside ourselves. The baptism is the confession
of how redemption was accomplished by Jesus Christ, death, burial,
and resurrection as our substitute. It's not a confession of the
seal of the spirit of grace or regeneration or anything of the
kind. It's a confession of redemption by Christ. The Lord's Supper
is the remembrance and celebration of redemption by Christ. Both
of them refer to him and his work. not to the inward experience
of grace. Number two, eating and drinking
the bread and wine of the Lord's table is an act of worshipful
obedience. In First Corinthians 11, just
listen, you don't need to turn there. When he had given thanks,
he'd break the bread and said, take, eat, this is my body, which
is broken for you. This do, this do in remembrance
of me. After the same manner also he
took the cup, and when he had sucked, saying, this cup is the
New Testament in my blood, this do you, as oft as you drink it
in remembrance of me. It is an ordinance then to be
observed by all believers. The Lord does not give the option. If you want to be baptized, be
baptized. If you don't, that's all right.
Churches give that option. Preachers give that option. God
doesn't. He commands baptism. He doesn't give the option. If
you want to keep the Lord's table, that'd be all right. But if you
choose not to, that's all right. He says this. Do you? Do you? Now, I know churches, Baptist
churches, other churches, they fence the table. Oh, no, you've
got to be this. You've got to do that. If you've
got any unconfessed sin in your life, you can't you can't do
this. Mother Claus Peterson. If you ever get the notion you
don't have any unconfessed sin in your life, you're fooled. There's a whole bunch of unconfessed
sin in your life and in mine, let alone what we know about.
There's a lot we don't even know about. What's he talking about
then? He that eateth and drinketh unworthily.
To eat and drink unworthily is to eat the bread and drink the
wine without faith in Christ. not discerning the Lord's body. Our worthiness before God is
Christ. Oh, God, teach us that. You may say, well, I don't feel
worthy to eat the Lord's supper. Me either. Do you feel worthy
to come to heaven? Do you feel worthy to pray? Do
you feel worthy to preach? Do you feel worthy to give? Do
you feel worthy to sing praise? If you do, you're deluded. No,
not. I'm not worthy to call God's
name, but I do. And I am because Christ is the
name by which I draw near to God. And there is life and salvation
in his name. I discern my need of a substitute
and discerning my need of Christ as my savior. I draw near to
God and worship him. Here's the third thing. The Lord's
Supper is a memorial feast. In memory of the Savior's love,
we keep the sacred feast, where every humble contrite heart is
made a welcome guest. Sometimes we have folks come
in in the evenings, and I sit here, I try my best. I have as
little to do with the ordinates, passing out the bread and wine,
and so forth as I possibly can, because I don't want it to ever
appear that somehow there's something magical about me or any other
preacher giving you the bread and wine. As a matter of fact,
I never, deliberately, I never look up to see if Josh is taking
the bread and wine. And I urge you not to. It's none
of your business. It's none of your business. Well,
I wonder why Josh is not taking Lord's Supper. I wonder what
bake he robbed. That's not your business. That's
not your business. And then people, hey, is it all
right for me to do this? Take this bread and this wine?
If you believe on Christ, this is the Lord's table. It's spread
for his children. And you're welcome. You're welcome.
Here's the fourth thing. The Lord's supper is an exhibition
of his death. Why do y'all use bread and wine,
unleavened bread and wine? Why not soda crackers and grape
juice? Because the Lord used unleavened bread and wine. That's
good enough reason, isn't it? That's good enough reason. That's
what he did. Oh, but the religious world, the religious world's
going to hell. Do you want to join them? But
people don't approve. I don't approve of them. Do you?
I'm so tired of folks Oh, he doesn't like that. I don't like
anything about him. Nothing. And I don't care whether
they like what we do or don't. I don't care if he defends or
doesn't defend. I'm concerned only about honoring my God and
serving his people. The Lord used unleavened bread
and wine at the Lord's table, and we ain't going to use anything
else. And we don't for these reasons. It shows forth his death. He whose body was sacrificed
in our stead is the holy, immaculate Lamb of God. There's no leaven
of evil in Him. The blood He shed was untainted
with the corruption of Adam's nature. He is of the seed of
woman, not the seed of man. And the blood separated from
the body. The wine here The bread there,
the blood separated from the body is a declaration of death. Most certain Jesus Christ, the
son of God died as our substitute. Fifth, I want you to look at
this first Corinthians 10. The Lord's table is a table of
communion, communion, co union. Oscar Bailey and Don Fortner live in union with Christ. That means we live in co-union
with one another. It's a table of communion. Look
at 1 Corinthians 10 verse 16. The cup of blessing which we
bless, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? The bread
which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ,
the wine, the blood of Christ, and the bread, the body of Christ?
Verse 17, for we being many are one bread and one body, for we
are all partakers of that one bread. Did you see that, Larry?
We're all partakers. of that God man who is our Savior
and we come together here at the Lord's table and we eat this
bread and drink this wine and we say, God, thank you for this
blessed family, one in Jesus Christ, one with Jesus Christ. Number six, the Lord's supper
is token of a covenant. The Lord Jesus said, This cup
is my blood in the New Testament, the new covenant, which is shed
for many for the remission of sins. I try deliberately every
time I take the bread and wine to think about the covenant. Oh, the wondrous covenant. And
all there is in that covenant is conveyed to us through the
blood. shed for us at Calvary. Number
seven, this is a feast of Thanksgiving. You can read it at your leisure
in Luke 22. Our Lord Jesus took the cup and gave thanks and gave
it to his disciples. And he said, I will not drink
of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God shall come.
And he took the bread and gave thanks and broke it and gave
it to them. It says, this is my body which is given for you,
this do in remembrance of me. And the cup likewise. And he
said, this cup is the New Testament in my blood, which is shed for
you. As you take that bread in your
mouth and eat it, and you drink this wine, lift your heart with
praise and thanksgiving to God. For Christ has redeemed you. Number eight, I've already hinted
at this. This is a picture of faith in
Christ. Some of you are yet without faith. Don't eat this bread. Don't drink this wine. If God
hasn't given you faith in Christ, don't confess Him in baptism.
Don't join the church. To do so is to eat and drink
damnation to yourself. You'll convince yourself you're
saved when you're lost as anybody in hell. But watch carefully. And listen, this is how sinners
are saved. I pray right now, God will give
you this faith. And if he gives you this faith,
when the deacons and men come pass out the Lord's table, you
eat and drink in remembrance of our Redeemer. Otherwise, just
watch. We take his bread, this bread,
which represents his body and eat it. He would take the wine,
representing His blood, and drink it. If you would live forever,
if you would go home tonight, an heir of eternal life, take
Christ for your own. Brother Dodd, is it alright for
me to do that? If you will, it's perfectly alright. If you can, perfectly all right. If you do, it's perfectly all
right. Take him. Take him. Lay hold
on eternal life. Receive the Son of God by faith. And the Lord's Supper is a symbol
of hope. Do this in remembrance of me
until I come again. Eat this bread, drink this wine
as the children of Israel did the Paschal Lamb. with your shoes
on your feet, and your coat on your back, and your staff in
your hand, ready to leave here. Assume. Assume! Redemption shall be finished
in glory. Amen.
