John 14:4-6
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
What does the Bible say about Jesus being the way, the truth, and the life?

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation, embodying truth and life itself (John 14:6).

In John 14:6, Jesus explicitly states, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life.' This profound declaration emphasizes that He alone is the means by which we can approach God and find reconciliation. In the context of salvation, Christ is portrayed not merely as a guide, but as the very embodiment of truth and life. As the way, He is the only path that leads to eternal life, circumventing every other method that leads to destruction. The truth He speaks sets us free from the bondage of sin, while the life He offers is both abundant and eternal, signifying that He is essential to our very existence in communion with God.

John 14:6, John 3:36, Romans 5:1-2, Ephesians 2:18

How do we know that Christ is the only way to salvation?

Christ's declaration in John 14:6 affirms His unique role as the sole means of salvation.

The assurance that Christ is the only way to salvation stems from His authoritative claim in John 14:6. He states that no one comes to the Father except through Him, indicating that all other avenues of seeking God are void. This assertion underscores the singular nature of His redemptive work; through His life, death, and resurrection, He secured a perfect atonement for sin, fulfilling the demands of God's justice while extending grace to those who believe. Furthermore, as noted in Acts 4:12, there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, reinforcing Christ's unique role as the mediator between God and humanity.

John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Romans 5:1-2

Why is it important for Christians to understand Jesus as the truth?

Recognizing Jesus as the truth is vital for discerning falsehood and embracing the fullness of the gospel.

Understanding Jesus as the truth is crucial for Christians because it establishes the foundation of their faith. In John 8:32, Jesus affirms that knowing the truth sets us free, which highlights the liberating power of His gospel. By identifying Jesus as the truth, believers are pointed away from the lies of this world and towards the ultimate reality of God's revelation through Him. This truth also equips Christians to recognize and reject counterfeit teachings that can lead them astray. As Jesus teaches, no lie is of the truth (1 John 2:21); thus, understanding His nature enables us to discern God's will and align our lives accordingly.

John 8:32, 1 John 2:21

How does Jesus provide life to believers?

Jesus offers eternal life and spiritual nourishment to those who believe in Him (John 11:25).

In the gospel, Jesus is depicted as the giver of life, both earthly and eternal. In John 10:10, He states, 'I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.' This abundant life transcends mere physical existence, encompassing spiritual vitality granted to believers through faith in Him. As the resurrection and the life (John 11:25), Jesus assures His followers that even though they may physically die, they shall live eternally if they believe in Him. This promise solidifies the Christian hope, affirming that life in Christ is both a present reality and a future assurance of eternal communion with God.

Now we're turning in our Bible
again to John chapter 14, and I'm taking the title for the
message from what is said in verse 6. This is probably one
of the most well-known scriptures, certainly in the book of John.
Maybe in all the scripture this is one of the most familiar Scriptures
in all the Word of God. Most people in religion can quote
this verse. The Lord said, I am the way,
the truth, the life. I am. I am. The one who speaks
this is the same one who declared unto Moses, I am that I am. The Lord Jesus Christ declares
unto us in these words all the counsel of God in regards to
salvation. Now listen to me. All the counsel
of God in regard to salvation is all summed up in these three
statements. I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life. Glorious, glorious statement. We see in this statement that
in the Lord Jesus Christ, Christ is all and in all in salvation. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
sum of the gospel. He is the substance of the gospel. He is the subject matter of the
gospel. Without Him, Without the Lord
Jesus Christ, His person, without Him and Him Christ crucified,
we have no good news. Because without Him, we have
no salvation. Without Him, we have no righteousness. I don't care what else you have. If you don't have Christ, you
don't have salvation. We read in 1 John 5, He that
hath the Son hath life. He that hath not the Son shall
not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him. We get an indication that salvation
is in a person when Simeon picked up that eight-day-old infant
when they brought The Lord Jesus, just eight days old, when Mary
and Joseph brought Him to the temple to be circumcised and
to be officially named as Jesus, the Savior, called His name,
the angel said, Jesus, He shall save His people from their sin. He is what He's called. He is
the Savior. And Simeon picked Him up in his
arms and said, Lord, I'm ready to die. I have seen thy salvation."
In that person. In that person, though eight
days old. I tell you, you talk about a
look of faith. I have to look of faith. He,
the Lord, remember the Holy Ghost came and revealed to him that
he would not die until he'd seen the Savior. And when he beholds
him, he declares, I have seen thy salvation. I have seen the
Savior. Now the Lord Jesus Christ here
in John 14 had just declared unto the apostle that he was
going away to accomplish their salvation. As we learned last
week, In verses two and three, he was talking about going to
Calvary, going to put away their sin by the sacrifice of himself,
going to bring in an everlasting righteousness for his covenant
people and all those for whom the father had given to him in
that covenant of grace. He acts as a representative man
entering into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption
for us. as we studied in Hebrews chapter
9 this morning in our Bible study. Now look at verse 4. The Lord
having declared that unto them, that I'm going away, and I'll
come again, and I'll receive you to myself, that where I am,
there you may be also. And the Lord said in verse 4,
whether I go, where I go you know. And he says, in the way
you know. You know where I go, and you
know the way that I go. The Lord had told them on more
than one occasion that he must die as their substitute, that
he must lay down his life, that he might take it again. The Lord
on more than one occasion told him that he must die, that he
must be resurrected, and that they would follow him at some
point in resurrection glory, but yet they were so slow to
grasp, so slow to understand. You remember back in Matthew
16? If you want to turn there, you
can. If not, just listen and I'll read it to you. In Matthew
16, 21, from that time forth, began Jesus to show unto his
disciples how that he must go to Jerusalem. This is not optional.
I must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and
the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and be raised again. Now he said this on more than
one occasion. I must, I must, I must die in
your stead, in your room. If I don't, you have no salvation. Then Peter took him and began
to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord, this shall
not be. And the Lord said to him, Peter, get out of my way. You're an ally of Satan. Thou
art a phantom to me. Thou savest not the things that
be of God. but those that be of men." The
Lord Jesus Christ dies at the determined time by the determinate
counsel and foreknowledge of God. These men, having been with
the Lord for three years in His public ministry, should have
understood these things. But they didn't, at this time,
grasp it. Because look at verse 5. Thomas
said unto him, Lord, We know not whether thou goest, and we
know not how can we know the way. We do not know where you're
going. We do not know the way. We see
the dullness of their understanding, don't we? Really, we're sitting
back and we're looking back at that situation and we think,
well, man, those guys are really dumb. I mean, the Lord told them
that I'm going to go, I'm going to die for you, and it's the
only way that your sin is going to be put away. It's the only
way that you can be justified by my blood. And yet they say,
Lord, we don't know. We don't know where you're going.
We don't know the way. We see the dullness of our understanding.
and also of our own, of our own ignorance. Thomas makes this
amazing statement, and I think every honest person can identify
with what Thomas says. Because of our own sinful nature,
because of our own darkness of our own unbelieving heart, and
the ignorance of our own mind, we don't know the way of salvation
left to ourselves, do we? No, sir. We don't. Left to ourselves,
we do not know how salvation is accomplished. Left to ourselves,
we don't know who accomplished salvation. You see, the natural
man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, neither
can he know them, because they must be spiritually revealed,
spiritually discerned. The natural man loves darkness,
not light. By nature, we're just like Thomas. We don't know the way, how sin
is put away, who puts sin away, or how righteousness and salvation
is accomplished. The Apostle Paul said this in
Ephesians 4, having the understanding darkened, and this is us by nature,
because of the blindness of our heart. In Proverbs 14, these
words are found. There is a way, a way that seemeth
right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Now what is the way that appeals
unto the flesh? Works, morality, personal goodness,
bring the best you can, do the best you can, everything will
be alright. That's the way that seems right under this fallen,
sinful, ignorant flesh. That is the way of certain judgment,
condemnation, and everlasting punishment. Don't go that way.
I mean, naturally left to ourselves, now that's the way we're going.
Don't go that way, the ways of death. But our Lord here in verse
6, John 14 verse 6, our Lord here in such compassion, and
such long suffering, the Lord could have rebuked him severely.
I mean, he could have just jumped all over him like we probably
would have done. Thomas, you big dummy. But he did. In compassion, as a master teacher,
I'm so glad the Lord gives us these words because it helps
me so much. The Lord said to him, and he
says to us, I am the way. I am the way. I am the truth. I am life and salvation. You see, it's always pointing
back to himself. I am. I am. I am. And then he says this, no man.
Does that include you? It includes everybody. No man comes unto the Father,
that is, into this spiritual kingdom, into my Father's house,
but by me. By the way, the truth, the line,
by me. Now, I love the powerful and
gracious and truthful answer the Lord gives to Thomas and
to all that will hear it. You remember back in chapter
7 when they came to arrest the Lord Jesus Christ, and they came
back without him, and the officers said unto those who were sent,
why didn't you bring him? And they said, well, never a
man spoke like that man. We couldn't touch him. His words
were with power and glory. In Matthew chapter 7, when he
ends, when he ends, don't turn, let me just read it to you, when
he ends that great sermon on the mount, And the people were
amazed. It says in Matthew 7, 28, it
came to pass when Jesus had ended these saying, the people were
astonished at his doctrine for he taught them as one having
authority and not as described. He speaks with all authority
because he is God. He is God. He can be trusted. He can be believed. And again,
never man spake like that man. Over here in Luke chapter 4 verse
32. Let me read this to you. when
the Lord went to Nazareth, His hometown, and read the Scripture
from Isaiah 61, and said, This day is this Scripture fulfilled
in your ears. And you remember they got angry
at Him, and they picked up stones to stone Him. And they all were
filled with wrath. And here's what some of them
said. They were astonished at His doctrine, for His Word was
with power. No man ever spake like that man. Everything he speaks is absolute
truth. In this verse is one of the most
comprehensive, wide-ranging promises of the gospel. In salvation,
the Lord Jesus Christ is not something, He's everything, He's
all of salvation. Christ is all and in all, Colossians
3 verse 11. The Lord is always encouraging
sinners to come to Him, Look to Him, rest in Him, trust Him,
believe Him, find in Him all spiritual blessings. He said,
Come unto Me, all you who are heavy laboring and heavy laden,
I will give you rest. Rest is found in Christ. Oh, for grace to trust Him more
now and always. John 7 we read these words if
any man thirst our Lord said let him come come unto me and
drink in John chapter 6 He said I'm the bread of life he that
cometh to me shall never hunger. He's always directing sinners
back unto himself in Isaiah 45 he said I am God the only just
God and Savior there is none beside me then he said look unto
me and Don't go here, don't go there, look to Christ, salvation
in Him. Now let's take a closer look
at these words here found in John 14 verse 6. Recorded here for our profit,
recorded here for our benefit, recorded here for our pleasure. And I want us to take a good
look at these three things. And I would pray that God the
Holy Spirit would take the things of Christ and show them unto
us right now. Three important things that every
one of us here need to understand about salvation. The Lord Jesus
Christ says here plainly, He is the way, the way, not a way,
not some way, definite article, the way. The Lord Jesus Christ
also says that He is the truth, not some truth, He's all true. He is truth personified. The Lord Jesus Christ, He is
the life. He's not some of salvation. He's
all of salvation. He is the Savior. You know what
that really saves? He is the Redeemer who really
redeemed. I don't need a Savior who can't save, do you? I don't
need a Redeemer that tried to save, that tried to redeem and
couldn't. I need a Redeemer who really paid the ransom and set
me free by His grace. The way, the truth, the life.
Now think about this. What did Adam lose in the garden
when he sinned against God? You know what he lost? He lost
the way. He was alienated from the paradise
of God. You remember God threw him out
of the garden. Alienated from the paradise of God and from
fellowship with God by his sin, he lost the way. Secondly, he
lost the truth, that is, Adam did. He embraced Satan's lie,
refused to believe God. Having embraced that lie, having
a fallen sinful nature because of embracing that lie, he no
longer had the capability of believing and loving the truth. The carnal mind is yet enmity
against God. Adam lost not only the way, didn't
he? He lost the truth, didn't he? Adam also lost life. Life. God said to Adam in that
day that you eat, it'll be okay. No, God said to Adam in that
day that you rebel against me and that you do not obey me.
He said that in the day that you eat, you will die. You know,
he sinned before he ate. Think about it. He sinned before
he ate. He sinned in his heart before
he ate. He sinned and he ate and he died. Spiritually, at
that moment, he died, was separated from God, spiritually dead, and
physically, death entered into his body and he died when he,
I believe he was 930 years old, and he died. Now what happened
to Adam? Adam was a representative man.
What happened to Adam happened to you. And when you come forth
into this life born of a woman, you come forth in that sinful
state of which Adam plunged all of us into. Therefore we do not
know the way, the truth, or the life. Because we're born of Adam
in ignorance, darkness, blindness, unbelief, and death. In Adam
all died. Wherefore by one man sin entered
in, and death by sin. For all in Adam all have sinned."
You say, well, I don't like that arrangement. Too bad? That's
just the way it is. Adam was a representative man.
What he did, you did. When he stood, you stood. When
he fell, you fell. When he sinned, you did. Now, unless you descended from
a monkey, you got a problem, because you're a descendant of
Adam, and you're guilty. You're guilty before God. The
Lord Jesus Christ came to undo what Adam did. That's why he
came. He came to bring in and to restore
what Adam lost. Where sin abounded, we read in
Romans, where sin abounded, grace does much more abound. In Christ,
the way, the truth, and the life. There's no way back into the
Father's presence. There's no way back into the
Father's house but by and through the Lord Jesus Christ. Matter
of fact, he says, Jerry, no man. No man. Now, I used to tell my
little boys when they were little, when I would say, no, no, no,
don't do that, no, don't do that. And I finally, in frustration,
would say, what part of no don't you understand? No man comes unto the Father
but by the Lord Jesus Christ. So let's look at these three
things now. The Lord Jesus Christ is the way. The way. Now, point A, point
B. You remember those lessons in
geometry? What's the shortest distance between point A and
point B? A straight line. That's the way,
isn't it? From point A to point B is a
straight line. That's the way. The Lord Jesus
Christ is that straight line. From Adam's ruin and darkness
into the Father's house, He is the way. He is the straight line. There is no other way. No other
way. The only way to the Father's
house, into the spiritual kingdom we call salvation, is through
the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. By nature, we're
lost. By nature, we're dead in sin.
By nature, we don't know the way to the Father's house. All we like sheep have gone astray,
Isaiah 53, and we've turned everyone to his own way. The Lord Jesus Christ, I would
have you turn to this one. Let's turn to Matthew chapter
7. The Lord Jesus Christ is called the straight and narrow way.
He's the straight and narrow way that leads to eternal life
in Matthew chapter 7. Matthew chapter 7 verse 13, enter
ye in at the straight gate. It's the straight gate, it's
the straight line. For wide is the gate, and broad
is the way that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in
thereat, because straight is the gate, narrow is the way which
leadeth unto eternal life, and few there be that find it. Now, there's a broad road to
destruction, and then there is a narrow way and a straight gate
that leads to life. Christ is that gate. Christ is
that door. Christ is that way. The broad
way. Now, which would you rather have?
Just with a natural illustration, I think maybe would help us understand
this. If they were going to build a
bridge across the Ohio River, from one side to the other, and
they built a broad bridge that extended halfway out, what good
would that be? I mean, it's broad, it's six
lanes across. I mean, you could just drive
zoom. But wait a minute, it only goes
halfway. You plunge into the Ohio River,
you got trouble. Or would you rather have, as
you drive up through the country here, one of those little one-lane things. They call them,
what, a swinging bridge or something? But that one-lane bridge, it
would go all the way across the Ohio River and get you to the
other side. Now, which would you rather have?
The straight gate in the narrow way. that leads to the other
side. The Lord Jesus Christ is that
straight and narrow way. He's not the broad way. He's
the narrow way. He's the only way. This excludes,
does it not, all other and any, it excludes all and any other
ways men may invent a way that depends upon the sinner To accomplish
something is a false way and it will end in eternal ruin. A way that depends on you. In
other words, God has done all he can do, now the rest is up
to you. That's the way that leads to
destruction. A way that depends upon a sinner
is a false way. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
way from ruin in Adam to righteousness in Christ. By one man's disobedience
many were made sinners, so by the obedience of another shall
many be made righteous in Christ Jesus. The Lord Jesus Christ
is the way from ruin to righteousness. The Lord Jesus Christ is away
from death unto life. The wages of sin is death. The
gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. He is the way. The Lord Jesus
Christ is away from darkness to light. He delivered us from
the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of God's
dear Son. The Lord Jesus Christ is away
from guilt and condemnation to peace and reconciliation being
justified by faith. We have peace with God through
our Lord Jesus Christ. There is therefore now no condemnation
to those who are in the Lord Jesus Christ. You see, He's the
way. Have you got that? There is no
other way. He's the way. This way of salvation
in and through the Lord Jesus Christ, I like this part of it. It's free. It's not a toll road. Did you
ever get to a toll booth and not have any money? It's pretty
embarrassing. It's right embarrassing. I've
had that happen to me more than one time. You get to a toll booth
and the guy says, okay, money. Wait a minute! You dummy! The
Lord Jesus Christ is the free way, the free way of salvation,
being justified freely by His grace through the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus. This way of salvation is not
only a free way, it's a complete way. Complete way. "...in Him dwells all the fulness
of the Godhead bodily, and in Christ you stand..." Think about
it. Complete. completely justified,
completely sanctified, completely redeemed in His sight. This is the way. This way of
salvation in Christ is a free way, a complete way, and it's
a permanent way. A permanent way. This way doesn't
change. It doesn't vacillate. It never changes. He said, I'm the Lord, I change
not. It's a permanent way. I'm the same yesterday, today,
forever. He gives eternal life. And this way of salvation in
Christ the only way neither is there salvation in any other
for there's no other name under heaven given among men whereby
we must be saved now look at this part right here in verse
6 the Lord said I am the way and then he said no man no man
no sinner comes unto the father and to the Father's house. You're
not getting into the Father's house, but by Christ. You see, He's the door into the
sheepfold, but by me. So that's point number one. Here's
point number two, the Lord Jesus Christ is the truth. I am the
truth. Now, every religion of man proclaims
they have the truth, don't they? Every religion of man, they proclaim
they have the truth. The Muslims, well, if you don't
believe the truth, they'll kill you. Won't they? The Muslims,
they think they've got a corner on the truth, don't they? The
Hindus, they believe the same thing. We have the truth. What
about the Buddhists? They believe the same thing.
We have the truth. The religion of man, all proclaim they have
the truth. The Buddhists, the Hindus, the
Muslims, the Jews say they are the true people of God. We have
the truth. They all say their way is the only way. They all
say they have the truth, don't they? None of them stand up and
say, well, I'm going to tell you a lie. No, they all stand
up and say, I have the truth. The Mormons, they say they have
the truth. The JW crowd, the Jehovah Witness
people, they say they have the truth. The Church of Scientology,
they say that we have the truth. They all say they have the truth. They all say we teach the truth.
But do they? No. Our Lord said in 1 John 2.21,
No lie is of the truth. Now how much Do you have to,
when you have a statement, and you're trying to determine whether
it's true or not, it's either absolutely true or it's not.
No lie is of the truth. If you enter in any kind of lie
into that statement, it no longer becomes truth, it becomes, it
affects the whole thing, becomes a lie, doesn't it? The gospel of the Lord Jesus
Christ is the absolute truth, because He is the truth. Everything He speaks is absolute
truth. The truth of the gospel is not
a mere philosophy, a system of doctrine, but rather the truth
of the gospel is a living person, and that is the whole difference,
is it not? The whole difference is a person. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself. He is the truth. The truth. He is the true God and Savior. Now turn just a couple pages
to John 17. John 17 verse 3. John 17 verse 3. This is eternal life, that they
might know thee the only true God. Jesus Christ, whom thou
hast sent, the Lord Jesus Christ, He is the true God. He has the truth of salvation. He is the truth of salvation. We studied in John 1.14 that
our Lord Jesus Christ, the Word was made flesh and dwelt among
us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten
of the Father, full of grace and truth. In John 117, grace
and truth came by the Lord Jesus Christ. When God saves us in
Christ by the Word of Truth, by the Word of God, which is
the Word of Truth, He shows us that every other way is false.
You see, it is the truth that sets us free. And when He reveals
the truth unto us, we can easily distinguish what is a lie. And what is truth? Now turn to
John 8. You know, does it really matter
if I know the truth or if I believe the truth? Absolutely! And here's the reason. Look at
John 8, 31. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on
him, He said, If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples
indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set
you free. Stand fast in the liberty wherewith
Christ has set us free. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
true prophet, son of God. He teaches us the truth about
ourselves. What is the truth about ourselves?
Well, I've already mentioned this several times. The truth
about ourselves is the truth about ourselves is this, that
there is none righteous, no not one. There is none good, no not
one. The truth is we're all sinners. And when the Lord Jesus Christ
takes the word of truth and reveals unto us the truth of who we are,
We see that we need the Lord Jesus Christ as our God and as
our Savior. As the true prophet sin of God,
he teaches us the truth about ourselves that we're sinners,
and then he teaches us the truth about who he is. holy, righteous,
just, and eternal. And then he reveals unto us the
way of salvation is in Christ Jesus alone. As our priest of
God, as the priest of God, as the true priest of God, the Lord
Jesus Christ teaches us the truth about how sin is put away. Don't you want to know how sin
is put away? You know, it's a difficult thing to put sin away. The blood
of bulls and goats cannot take away sin, cannot put away sin.
You figure, think of all the blood that flowed on Jewish altars. Thousands and thousands of rams
and bullocks and sheep and lambs and goats never made one atonement
for sin. Our great High Priest, the Lord
Jesus Christ, teaches us the truth about how our sin is put
away. With the sacrifice of Himself. He put our sin away by the sacrifice
of Himself. That's the truth that sets us
free. No longer going about to establish the righteousness of
our own, but resting in Christ who is our true High Priest,
our true Prophet. As our true King, the Lord Jesus
Christ teaches us the truth about His sovereignty and salvation.
His sovereignty and salvation. We have it here real close in
the neighborhood. Turn to the neighborhood of John 17, verse
2. John 17, verse 2, where it says,
Thou hast given Him, the Son of Man, power over all flesh,
as the God-man mediator, that He should give eternal life to
as many as Thou hast given Him. He has the right to give life
to whom He will. And He has the right to have
mercy on whom He will. He is sovereign in salvation.
As the King, He teaches us, if He condemned me and sent me to
hell, He'd be doing right. That's what I deserve. Now, I
don't want that. I beg for mercy, but if God did
condemn me, He'd be giving me exactly what I deserve, justice. I don't deserve mercy. You see, He's the truth of how
God can be just and justify the ungodly. He's the truth of how
God can be a just God and Savior. And then again, I repeat what
He says here in the last part of verse 6. No man comes to the
Father but by Me. No man comes to the knowledge
of the truth apart from the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
No man comes to the Father's house but by Christ. No man. No man, but by Christ
alone. Thirdly, the Lord says here,
I am the way. The Lord said, I am the truth. The Lord said, I am the, the
life, the life. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
author of life. He's the giver of life, both
natural and spiritual, and especially eternal life. He gives life to
whom He will. He is the way of life. He is
the new and living way that we read about in the book of Hebrews,
chapter 10, verse 20. Now we've seen on several occasions,
and I want to take time to go through this. Look at John chapter
3. The Lord said, I am the life. We've seen this repeated over
and over and over again. The Lord keeps saying this same
message unto us. In John 3, 36. He that believeth
on the Son has everlasting life. He is life. He that believeth
not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on
him. Turn one page, John chapter 4.
Verse 14. Excuse me. Verse 14. Whosoever drinketh
of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the
water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water, springing
up unto everlasting life. He is life. Turn to John 5.24. Over and over and over again,
he says, I'm life. I'm the life. I'm the life that
you need. I'm the Savior that you need.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, John 5, 24. He that heareth my
word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life,
shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto
life. John 6, 35. You see, this is
no obscure doctrine. It's everywhere through the Word
of God. The Lord Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, the life. I am the bread of life. John
6, 35. He that cometh to me shall never hunger. He that believeth
on me shall never thirst. John 8, verse 12. John 8 verse 12, our Lord said,
I am the light of the world. He that followeth me shall not
walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Kind of get the idea? He is life. He is salvation. But there's
more. Look at John 10 verse 10. It says in verse 9,
I am the door, by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved,
and go in and out, out of death into life and find plenty verse
10 John 10 10 the thief cometh not but for to steal to kill
to destroy I am come that they might have life that they might
have it more abundantly abundant life abundant life in John 28
John 10 verse 28 rather I give unto them eternal life and they
shall never perish either should any man pluck them out of my
hand John 11, I know this is a redundant exercise, but I'm
trying to make a point here. The Lord Jesus Christ is life,
salvation, eternal and spiritual life. John 11, 25, I am the resurrection
and the life. He that believeth in me, though
he were dead, yet shall he live, and whosoever liveth and believeth
in me shall never die. This is life that never dies.
You see, He gives eternal life. He gives unto us spiritual life. Salvation is in the Lord Jesus
Christ. Oh, that we may win Christ and
be found in Him. Now, back to John chapter 14,
verse 6. The Lord said to Thomas, I am
the way, the truth, the life, no man comes unto the Father
but by me, by me. Christ is the only way of access
unto the Father's spiritual kingdom. There is no coming to God as
an absolute God apart from the Lord Jesus Christ. Not upon the
ground of your works, it won't do. Not upon the ground of your
morality, it won't do. There's no coming to God Almighty
without a proper suitable high priest, the great high priest,
without His atonement, without His blood being shed, without
the Lord Jesus Christ obtaining eternal redemption and righteousness
for us, there's no coming to Him apart from the Mediator,
and that one Mediator between God and men is the God-Man, the
Lord Jesus Christ. He's able to save to the uttermost
all that come to God by Him, The Lord said, I am the door,
by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved. Romans 5 it says, in whom? In Christ. Also we have access
by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in the hope
of the glory of God. In Ephesians 2 it says, through
Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. And in
Ephesians 3 it says, in whom we have boldness and accessed
with confidence by the faith of Him. Come boldly unto the
throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, find grace to help
in our time of need. Now may God be pleased this very
hour, this very day, to show us our great need of the Lord
Jesus Christ, that He is my way. He is the way, and by His grace
I can say with David, He's my way, He's my Savior. He is the
truth, and I can say by the grace of God, He is the truth that
set this sinner free. And I can say, By the grace of
God, the Lord Jesus Christ is my life. He is the life, but
He's my life. To me, He's my life. He's my
Savior. He's my God. I trust that God
will give us all eyes to see Him and look at Him and find
in Him, as Simeon did, let me die in peace. I've seen thy salvation.
