What does the Bible say about the church being purchased with Christ's blood?

The Bible teaches that the church is bought with the precious blood of Christ, symbolizing redemption and ownership.

The Apostle Paul, in Acts 20:28, emphasizes that the church of God was purchased with Christ's own blood. This profound truth reflects the significant cost Jesus paid for our salvation. The church, as His body, is a called-out assembly of believers whom Christ loves and cherishes. his purchase signifies not only ownership but also a deep commitment, demonstrating the lengths to which God went to redeem His people. It underscores the value God places on His church, viewing it as worthy of His sacrifice.

Acts 20:28, Ephesians 5:25, Colossians 1:18

Why is the blood of Christ significant for salvation?

The blood of Christ is central to salvation because it provides atonement, purification, and reconciliation with God.

The significance of Christ's blood in salvation cannot be overstated. It serves as the means by which believers are redeemed from their sins and reconciled to God. In Ephesians 1:7, it states, 'In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.' This atonement restores our relationship with God, overcoming the barrier of sin. Furthermore, Hebrews 9:22 reminds us that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin, highlighting the necessity of Christ's sacrifice for our salvation. His blood not only purifies but also secures eternal life for those who believe.

Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 9:22, Romans 5:9

How do we know Christ's atonement is effective?

Christ's atonement is effective as it was ordained by God and fulfilled through His sacrificial death for His chosen people.

The effectiveness of Christ's atonement is grounded in His divine purpose and fulfillment of prophecy. Scripture attests that He died for His church, affirming that His atonement is not an indiscriminate offering but rather a specific and powerful act intended for His chosen people. As noted in John 10:11, He declares, 'I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.' This intentional sacrifice secures not only forgiveness but also guarantees that none of His elect will be lost. In Revelation 1:5, it states, 'He loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood,' affirming that His sacrifice was sufficient and wholly effective for the redemption of His people.

John 10:11, Revelation 1:5, Acts 20:28

Why is it important for Christians to understand the concept of redemption?

Understanding redemption is crucial for Christians as it highlights the grace of God and the cost of our salvation in Christ.

Redemption is central to the Christian faith, emphasizing God's grace and the sacrificial love of Christ. It reveals the extent of God’s mercy in saving sinners who are undeserving. Through His blood, believers find forgiveness and freedom from sin, which is foundational to a believer's identity in Christ. Ephesians 1:7 states, 'In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses,' framing our relationship with God in the context of His grace. This understanding cultivates gratitude and a sense of responsibility in living according to His will, thereby affecting how Christians interact with God and others.

Now, if you'll find in your Bible,
again, the book of Acts, chapter 20, and I do not make
any apology whatsoever for preaching so many times from this one chapter. It really doesn't matter. It
is God's Word. It is God's truth. Acts, chapter
20, verse 25, And now behold, I know that you are among whom
I have gone preaching, gone preaching the Kingdom of God." What is
this Kingdom of God that he is preaching? Christ and Him crucified. Preaching salvation of God. Kingdom is salvation that is
of God. Salvation is of the Lord. And
his departing word to them, these believers here love Paul, As
He departs, they fell on one another's neck, they embraced
one another, they prayed together, they loved one another, and He
tells them, you're going to see Me no more. No more. Not in this life. He said, therefore, verse 26,
I take you to record. Now here's the record, here's
the fact. I hold this before you this day, that I am clean,"
is the word there, from the blood of all that he preached to. He said, I've not shunned to
declare unto you all the counsel of God. Now I told you a place
there in Acts chapter 18. What's he saying here? He's saying
that every time God opened the door, and gave him opportunity
to preach the gospel, he stood firm and declared salvation in
none other than Jesus Christ crucified, and salvation by the
grace of God alone in Christ Jesus. In Acts chapter 18, when
he first came to Corinth, down in verse 5, and when Silas and
Timothy were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the Spirit
and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. You see
that? And when they opposed themselves
and blasphemed, he shook his raiment and said unto them, Your
blood be on your own head. See the word there, I am clean?
It's the same word over in chapter 20 that's rendered there, pure. I'm clean. Your condemnation
lies upon your own head. He's saying, I've told you the
truth. From henceforth, I'll go to the
Gentiles. I'm going to find somebody who
is sinful, somebody who is wicked, somebody who is ungodly. If I
can find that person, I've got good news. Christ died for sinners. He said, verse 27, back in our
text, I've not shunned. to declare unto you." Now, he
didn't say, I've explained unto you all the counsel of God. As my pastor used to say, I'm
not in the explaining business. I'm in the proclaiming business. I'm not shown to declare unto
you All the counsel of God." Now what is this, all the counsel
of God, that he says, I did not hold back. I didn't hedge, I
didn't compromise, but I declared unto you all the counsel of God. Now I know this, he's not talking
about all the secret decrees of God. Well how can any mere
creature know anything of all the eternal secret decrees of
God? But he is saying this, I did
not hold back concerning God's will in the matter of salvation. He said, I've told you everything
in the matter of how God saves sinners in such a way that's
honoring to God Himself. All the counsel of God. What
is this concerning salvation? Here it is. Turn to John chapter
6. John chapter 6. It is the revealed will of God
concerning salvation. Concerning my salvation in Christ
Jesus. All the counsel of God. Here
it is, John chapter 6, verse 37. All that the Father giveth
me shall come to me, and him that cometh to me I will in no
wise cast out. For I came down from heaven not
to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. Now here's
his will. And this is the Father's will, which hath sent me, that
all which He hath given me I'll lose not one sheet." Nothing. But, "...raise it up again at
the last day." This is the will of Him that sent me, that everyone
which seeth the Son and believeth on Him may have everlasting life,
and I'll raise Him up at the last day. This is a faithful
saying. Turn to Ephesians chapter 3. This is a faithful saying and
worthy of all acceptation. I want you to find Ephesians
chapter 3, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save...
What does it say? He came to save sinners. Can you find your place there?
Is that a good description of you? Sinful before God? all the counsel of God, all the
will of God concerning salvation in Christ Jesus, Ephesians chapter
3. Notice this, verse 7, Wherefore
I was made a minister, Ephesians 3, 7, made a minister according
to the gift of the grace of God, given unto me by the effectual
working of His power unto me, who am less than the least of
all saints. Grace is given that I should preach among the Gentiles
the unsearchable riches of Christ. to make all men see what is the
fellowship of the mystery which from the beginning of the world
had been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ, to
the intent that now unto principalities and powers in heavenly places
might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God according
to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus the
Lord, God from all eternity, purpose to save a people, to
elect a people, choose a people, to save them by the blood sacrifice
of Jesus Christ. We read in Scripture, He is the
Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Now turn back to
the book of Acts, the revealed way of salvation through Jesus
Christ alone. This is all the counsel of God
concerning salvation is in Jesus Christ alone. Now let's see if
we can make good on that. We've studied this all through
the book of Acts. Turn to Acts chapter 4. Acts chapter 4. Now I want you to use your Bible
and look at these scriptures. It will help you. The revealed
will of salvation in Jesus Christ alone. Christ alone. Now notice what it says here
in Acts chapter 4 verse 12. Neither is there salvation in
any other. For there is no other name under
heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. What is all
the counsel of God, the revealed will of God in salvation? It's
all in the Lord Jesus Christ. In Him dwells all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily, and in Him we are complete in Christ
Jesus. So it's a way of Christ alone.
It's a way of faith alone, not works, faith alone. Now we've
seen this, haven't we? Turn to Acts chapter 13. Acts
chapter 13. I think this is one of the key
verses in all of the book of Acts here. Paul, his first sermon
that he preaches in Acts 13.38, he declares salvation in Christ
alone through faith alone. This is all the revealed counsel
of God concerning salvation. Look what it says in Acts 13.38,
Be it known unto you, therefore, men and brethren, that through
this man, Christ alone is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins.
You get a hold of that. The forgiveness of sins. And
by Him all that believe are justified from all things, cleared of all
guilt, from which you could not be cleared, you could not be
justified by the law of Moses. revealed will of God concerning
salvation in Christ alone, faith alone, from the Word of God alone,
turn to Acts chapter 18. We've seen this. When they came
preaching, they took the Word of God and preached unto them
Christ, Christ His person, Christ His work, Christ in Him crucified. In Acts chapter 18, verse 28.
Speaking of Apollos, he mildly convinced the Jews, and that
publicly, showing by the Scriptures, by the Scriptures, that Jesus
is the Christ. The Word of God alone. Christ
alone. Faith alone. The Word of God
alone. Grace alone. Grace alone. Acts chapter 15. You who are students of church
history know that this is the theme of the Reformation. these
things. Martin Luther, Calvin, those
fellows, stood for these things, turned the world upside down
with these things. Acts 15, grace alone, faith alone,
the word of God alone, Christ alone, Acts 15, 11. We believe,
and we do, that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall
be saved. Grace alone. Grace alone. Grace alone. One other scripture
on that. Turn back to chapter 18, verse
27. Acts 18, 27. And when He was
disposed to pass through Achaia, disposed to pass through Achaia,
or compelled to pass through Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting
the disciples to receive Him, who when He was come helped them
which had believed through How did they believe? By the grace
of God, we do believe the Gospel. Faith alone, Christ alone, the
Word of God alone, grace alone, to the glory of God alone. Acts
chapter 11, turn over there. When Peter came back from the
house of the Gentile Cornelius, having preached the gospel of
God's sovereign saving grace in Christ Jesus, and God granted
them repentance, God granted them life, and they magnified
the Lord, and said that Christ is all of our salvation. When
Peter came back and rehearsed all that God had done, in Acts
chapter 11, verse 16, then remember, then remembered I the word of
the Lord, how that he said, the Lord said, John indeed baptized
with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
For as much then as God gave them the like gift as He did
to us who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, what was I that
I could withstand God? And when they heard this, they
held their peace and they glorified God, saying, Then hath God also
to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. God forbid we should
glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, turn
back to the text. Look at verse 28 of Acts 20. A strong warning he gives here.
Verse 28, 29, and verse 30. A strong warning to these elders
for whom he says, I'm going to see you no more. Here's his last
words to them. Take heed. Now you take heed. Take heed therefore unto yourselves.
You take care of all the flock of God, the sheep of Christ,
over which the Holy Spirit, God Himself, hath made you the shepherd,
the under-shepherd, the overseer, to feed the church of God which
He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, after I am gone,
wolves are going to enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
And your own selves shall men arise up. speaking perverse things
to draw disciples after them, therefore watch." Take heed and
watch. And remember that by the space
of three years, I've ceased not to warn everyone night and day
with tears. Now you take heed. Take heed
to the ministry that's been entrusted to you. Now turn to 1 Timothy
4.16. Take heed to what God has given
us here. God has blessed us here. I want
you to take this personal. Let us take heed to what God
has given us here, and let's protect it. Let's hedge it about. Let's pray about it. Let's attend
to the ministry that God has given us here. Look at 1 Timothy
4, verse 15, "...meditate upon these things, give thyself wholly
to them." that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed
unto thyself, unto the doctrine, and continue in them. For in
doing this, thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear you."
Take heed to what God hath given us. Now I take this very personal.
Don't turn, but let me just read this to you. In Hebrews chapter
13, verse 17, it says, "...to obey them that have the rule
over you, and submit yourselves, for they watch for your souls."
as they may give account that they may do it with joy and not
with grief, for that would be impossible for you. I stand accountable,
not only to you, but to God Almighty for what God hath given us."
Now you take heed. Look back at the text again.
Take heed to the ministry that God entrusted us. Take heed to
watch over the Lord's sheep. And it says there to make sure
that you take care of the sheep. to feed them a loving parent. A loving parent. Would he neglect
and withhold any food from a child whom he loves, for whom he cares?
Well, not at all. And we are instructed to feed
those sheep that God has given to us. Feed them with the bread
of life. The Word of life. I want you
to find John chapter 21. Feed the church of God which
He bought with His own blood. I'm instructed to feed you with
sheep food, to lead you in green pastures of His Word, by the
waters of life of the Lord Jesus. And we're to do this because
of love. John 21. John chapter 21. And this is a resurrected Lord.
coming and meeting and eating with His disciples. Verse 15, so when they had dined,
Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me
more than these? They've been out fishing. They
were fishermen. He's saying, he's looking at
those boats and those fish, Peter, do you love these boats and these
fishes or do you really love Me? And he said unto him, Yea,
Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. And he said unto them,
You feed my lambs. You feed my little ones. He said
to him again a second time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you really love
me? And he said to him, Yea, Lord,
thou knowest that I love thee. And he said to them, You feed
my sheep. He said unto him the third time, and Simon, Simon
son of Jonah, do you loveest thou me? And Peter was grieved,
and he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou
knowest all things. You know that I love thee. And
the Lord said to him, Feed my sheep. That's the charge God
has given to us. Now back to the text. Feed the
church of God. And the strong reason why we
are to oversee the church of God to take care of the Church
of God. We're to feed the Church of God.
And the strong, valid reason to care and watch and feed the
Lord's people is found in verse 28. He bought them. They belong to Him. He bought
them with His own blood. We are bought with a price. We
are to take care, very special care, of what the Lord purchased.
He bought us. with His own blood, body, soul,
and spirit. We are the Lord's. Now, I want to work on this phrase
here, this church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
Now, if you want to write these down, I believe they are worth
writing down, if you want to write these down to help yourself
remember these four things. four strong, powerful truths
concerning the blood atonement of Jesus Christ. The Church of
God which He purchased with His own blood. Number one, we see
who died. We see who the Lord died for. Who the Lord died for. It says here that He died for
The Church of God. Now, who is this Church of God?
Who are these people? This Church of God. Well, let's
see if we can take the Word and find out. Who are these people? Turn to Colossians chapter 1.
Colossians chapter 1. Now again, I would encourage
you to find these scriptures, and I'll try to go slow if I
can. We see who the Lord died for. Colossians chapter 1. He
died for His Church. The Church of God. Who are these
people that make up the church of God? Look what it says here.
In Colossians chapter 1, it says in verse 17, that He is before
all things, speaking of the Lord Jesus, and by Him all things
consist, by Him all things are held together. He is the head,
He is the Lord, He is the sovereign of the body, the church. That word means those who are
called out. He is the head of His called
out. They are His body, who is the beginning, the firstborn
from the dead, that in all things He might have the preeminence. Who are these who make up the
church of God? They are the called of God, of
which He is Lord and Sovereign over. Now turn to Ephesians chapter
5. Back to Ephesians chapter 5.
Ephesians chapter 5. I read this yesterday in the
wedding we had here yesterday afternoon. I always try to read
this scripture. Ephesians chapter 5, look at
verse 25. Husband loved your church, husband
loved your wives, even as Christ also loved the church. Whom did
he die for? His church, the called of God.
Husband loved your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,
gave himself for it. Who did the Lord Jesus Christ
die for? He died for His church, His people,
the called out of God. Whom did He die for? Turn to
John chapter 10. John chapter 10. Look at verse 11. I am the Good
Shepherd. John 10, 11. I am the Good Shepherd. The Good
Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep. So he died for his
church, the called of God. He died for his sheep. Verse
15 of John 10, As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the
Father. I lay down my life for the sheep. So he dies for his church. He
dies for his sheep. He dies for his people. His people. Turn to Matthew chapter 1. They are called his people. Matthew
chapter 1. His people. Matthew 1.21, And she shall bring
forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Saviour, for he shall
save his people from their sin. For whom did he die? The church,
his sheep, he died for his people who are called, turn back to
Hebrews 2. The message. Hebrews chapter
2. They're His people and they are called THE people of God. Hebrews 2, 17. Wherefore in all
things it behooved Him to be made like unto His brethren,
that He might be a merciful, faithful, high preaching thing
pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of THE people. His people. I want you to find
another scripture on that. They're called my people. Isaiah
53. Turn over there. Isaiah 53. You see, the Lord Jesus Christ
did not shed His blood in vain. His atonement wasn't a shotgun
atonement. That is just scattered. It's
out there and then whoever wants it can make it effectual. That's
not the atonement of the Lord Jesus. He died at the appointed
time for the appointed people and the appointed death to secure
and put away their sin and to secure everlasting salvation
for His people, the people, and He calls them here in Isaiah
53 verse 8. He was taken from prison from
judgment who shall declare His generation for He was cut off
out of the land of the living for the transgression of My people
was He stricken. They are called His church, His
sheep, His people. They are the many people. There's
many of them. Turn to Matthew chapter 20. There's
many of these people. Out of every kindred, tribe,
nation, and tongue, and people under heaven. They are called
the many. Matthew 20 verse 28. Matthew
20 verse 28. Even the Son of Man came not
to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give His life
a ransom for many." Who are these many? Turn to John chapter 17. Who are these many? John 17, verse 2. We're talking about, for whom
did the Lord Jesus Christ die? John 17 verse 2, "...as Thou
hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal
life to as many as Thou hast given Him." Turn back to Hebrews
9. Hebrews 9. Now get your fingers
ready because we're not done. Hebrews 9, look at verse 28.
The many, His church, the sheep, His people, my people, the people,
the many given to Him. Verse 28, Hebrews 9, So Christ
was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that
look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto
salvation. So the first point is this, for
whom did the Lord Jesus Christ die? He died for His bride, His
chosen, His church. Secondly, and most importantly,
we see who died to accomplish atonement for these people. Look
back at the text again. In Acts chapter 20, verse 28. The church of God which He purchased. Now who is this one who dies
on Calvary Street? Is He just a mere mortal man? If He's just a mere mortal man,
we have no salvation. We see who died to accomplish
our salvation. My friend, the Lord Jesus Christ
is God over all, blessed forever. He is the eternal God. He is
God our Savior. Turn to Hebrew chapter 1. He
is both God and man. And He had to be both. Eternal holy God and perfect
man and one blessed person to put away our sin by the sacrifice
of Himself. It's who He is that makes valid
what He did. That gives power to what He did. Hebrews chapter 1. Look at this
here. Here we see His eternality. His deity. Hebrews 1, 3, "...who
being in the brightness of His glory, the express image of His
person, upholding all things by the word of His power, when
He by Himself purged our sin, He set down the right hand of
the Majesty on high." Now, same chapter, look at verse 8. Hebrews
1, verse 8, "...but unto the Son He saith, Thy throne, O God,
Who is the Lord Jesus Christ? He is God manifest in the flesh. Under the sun He saith, Thy throne,
O God, is for ever and ever. A scepter of righteousness is
a scepter of Thy kingdom. It is who He is that gives power
to what He accomplished. Who is the Lord Jesus Christ?
He is God. He is fully and totally man,
and yet He is fully and totally God. He is the God-man in one
blessed person. Now listen to this, and I found
this by an old preacher by the name of Matthew Poole. He said,
if Christ had not been man, He could have no blood to shed,
right? He had to be a man, had to be
the Lamb. Had He not been God, the blood
He shed could not have been sufficient price of redemption. And that
is true. It is the God-man mediator that
puts away all our sin. In Hebrews 2, did you notice
verse 14? For as much sin as his children are partakers of
flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same. He is God, he is man, and one
blessed person. That's the first two points.
For whom did he die? Secondly, who died to accomplish atonement
and to put away our sin. Thirdly, we see what he accomplished. What did he accomplish? Well,
look back at the text. Here's what he accomplished.
Notice this, if you will, in verse 28. Take heed, therefore,
unto yourselves and all the flock over which the Holy Spirit hath
made you overseers, to feed the church of God which he purchased
with his own blood. So what did He accomplish by
the sacrifice of Himself? He bought us. He bought us. He purchased us with His own
blood. He paid all our sin debt. That is, He redeemed us. I want
you to find Ephesians chapter 1. Ephesians chapter 1. Ephesians chapter 1. He redeemed
us. Redeemed with what? Redeemed
with His blood. He bought us. He redeemed us. He delivered us. Ephesians chapter
1, verse 7. In whom we have redemption. We
have redemption. Not someday. We have redemption. Through His blood. The forgiveness
of sins according to the riches of His grace. We have redemption
through His blood. What did He accomplish? Redemption.
He redeemed us. What did He accomplish? He ransomed
us. He ransomed us. Turn to 1 Timothy. 1 Timothy chapter 1. He ransomed
us. 1 Timothy chapter 1. 1 Timothy chapter 2 is what I want. 1 Timothy chapter 2. He redeemed
us and then He ransomed us. A ransom is a price paid. for
a debt. He ransomed us. He paid the price.
This is 1 Timothy chapter 2, look at verse 2. For kings, he
said, pray and make supplication for all, all men, for kings,
for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and
peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good,
acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who will have all
men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth, that
is all sorts of men, young, old, bond-free, black, white. There
is one God, one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave Himself a ransom for all His people to be testified
in due time. We see what He accomplished at
Calvary's tree. He redeemed us. He ransomed us. We have complete remission from
all our sin. Turn to Hebrews chapter 10. Hebrews
chapter 10. We have remission from all sin. Hebrews 10. Look at this here.
He said, their sin, their iniquity, will I remember no more. Now, Hebrews chapter 10, let
me tell you a story while you're looking this up. There is a talk
radio show that's real popular right now, and I've been listening
to it some when I work outside during the day. It's a financial
success. It's called success, being successful
financially or something like that. But anyhow, on every Friday
they have what they call a day called debt free. It's debt free
day. And all the people call this
radio host and they all tell him their successful story how
they are debt free. Debt free from all their bills. Debt free. And he has them come
together on this particular day and they come on the radio and
they yell together, I'm debt free! And they just get so taken
up with having all their bills paid, and they brag about how
they sacrificed and did all this thing. They're not dead free. If they're not redeemed with
the blood of Christ, they're under bondage to the debt of
their sin. The believer in the Lord Jesus
Christ is the only one that can say, I'm dead free! Remission from all sin. Look
what he says here in Hebrews 10. Verse 14, for by the one
offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified. Wherefore
the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us. For after that he said
before, this is a covenant, verse 16, Hebrews 10, that I will make
with them after those days, saith the Lord. I'll put my laws into
their hearts and their minds will I write them, and their
sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission
of these is, No more offering for sin. Having therefore, brethren,
boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new
and living way which he consecrated for us through the veil that
is to say, his flesh. Having a high priest over the
house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance. Having our hearts sprinkled from
an evil content and our bodies washed with the water of the
gospel. We are debt free. What did he
purchase for us? He redeemed us, He ransomed us,
we have remission of sin, and we have reconciliation unto God. Turn to Hebrews, rather Romans
chapter 5. You see, He bought us with His
own blood. Romans chapter 5, look at this.
Romans 5, though He redeemed us, ransomed us, we have remission
of sin, we are debt free, and we have reconciliation. No longer
estrangement. At one time our sins separated
us from God, now we have no longer separation, we have reconciliation. Hebrews 5 verse 6, For when we
were yet without strength in due time, Christ died for the
ungodly. For scarcely for righteous man
would one die, yet for adventure for a good man some might dare
to die. But God commended His love toward
us. in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us. Much more than being now justified
by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if,
when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death
of His Son, much more being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Not only so, but we also joy
in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received
And the word there is reconciliation. You see what he's saying here
in this verse in our text? Feed the church of God which
He purchased with His own blood. We see who the Lord died for.
We see who died to accomplish atonement. We see what He accomplished. He bought us. And then lastly,
number four, we see the cost. We see the cost of this atonement. What is the cost of this atonement?
His own blood. His own blood. His life blood. He died for His people. Terrible cost. Tremendous cost. He freely gave it. Find 1 Peter. 1 Peter chapter 1. A tremendous price. Salvation
is free! Oh, how costly to the Lord Jesus. He said, no man takes my life
from me. I have power to lay it down. I have power to take it again.
We see the cost of our salvation, His life, His blood. 1 Peter
chapter 1 verse 18, For as much as you know, here's what we know,
you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver, gold, vain conversation,
tradition, the fathers. We were not redeemed with these
corruptible things, but, but, the precious blood of Christ,
as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, who was verily,
truly foreordained before the foundation of the world, but
was manifest in these last times for you, but God, but God. What was the price? His blood. Precious blood. Now in closing,
turn to this scripture here. We were bought with His blood. Redeemed with His blood. He obtained
for us, turn to Revelation 1, He obtained for us eternal redemption
with His own blood. Revelation 1. That's why we preach
about the blood, sing about the blood. It's God Himself. who shed His blood, the God-man. That's why we sing in Revelation
1, verse 5, unto Him that loved us and washed us from our sin
in His own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God,
His Father. To Him be glory and dominion
forever and ever. Revelation 5, turn over there,
verse 9, they sung a new song. It's the song of redemption.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain. Did you ever notice all through
the Revelation he's talked about 20 or 21 times, he is described
in his sacrificial character as the Lamb of God? We sing,
Worthy is the Lamb, look at verse 9. They sung a new song saying,
Thou art worthy, Revelation 5, 9, to take the book, to open
the seals thereof, for Thou was slain, and hast redeemed us to
God by Thy blood. out of every kindred, tongue,
people, nation, and has made us under our God kings and priests,
and we shall reign with Him." Revelation 7, turn over there. Verse 14, And I said unto him,
Sir, thou knowest. He said in verse 13 the question,
One of the elders answered and said, saying unto me, What are
these which are arrayed in white ropes? And where did they come
from? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to
me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and
have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood
of the Lamb. The blood of Jesus Christ, His
Son, cleanses us from all sin." You see what he's saying there?
The tremendous message, is it not? He bought us with His own
blood, redeemed us. And we do have remission of sin
through our blessed Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
