Ready to Glow

Track fourteen turns from how we fight to how we actually believe. Ready to Glow opens with Philippians 4:7 - the peace of God, which passeth all understanding - and then makes a claim I want to stand behind carefully. There is no head-and-heart divide in real faith. One believes with the mind, but the whole self comes alive. Paul used the word heart nearly as often as mind, because belief is not a thought you file away. It shakes the soul.

So the chorus draws a hard line. If the Gospel's real, your heart's gonna show. And the harder line, the one that ought to make a man check himself - if your heart never changes, you don't get it at all. I spent a long time as the cold-orthodoxy man the second verse describes, still clingin' to conditions I thought qualified me, all the right doctrine and none of the fire. That is not a higher, more disciplined faith. The song says it is no faith yet.

The bridge is the sober part, and it is true. I've seen many men depart from the faith they once claimed. They went out from us, but they were not of us. Bold words and an unchanged heart can travel together for years. But this is not a song built to make you anxious. It is a song built on a promise - if He's changed your mind, He's gonna change your soul. Real grace does not stop at the intellect. It reaches all the way down and lights the man up.
