Are people who believe differently but claim Christ still Christians?

Answered in 1 source

True Christianity is defined by adherence to the essentials of the gospel.

While individuals may claim to be Christians, genuine faith is defined by adherence to essential doctrines of the faith. For instance, a Roman Catholic devoted to Christ may personally believe in Christ's lordship; however, if they adhere to teachings that distort the gospel, they cannot be considered part of the true church. Similarly, Arminians who may affirm Christ but reject His sovereignty over salvation do so by misunderstanding crucial aspects of biblical truth. The essence of being a Christian is rooted in embracing the true nature of the gospel, which includes foundational truths about Jesus Christ, His work, and the sovereignty of God in salvation. Unless people are aligned with these core doctrines, their claims to faith can be viewed skeptically.
