Can anyone call themselves a child of God?

Answered in 1 source

Not everyone can rightly claim to be a child of God; only those who have faith in Christ are considered true children.

While many claim to be children of God through various means—heritage, good deeds, or personal beliefs—scripture draws a clear distinction. Jesus himself taught that not everyone who says 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of the Father (Matthew 7:21). This underscores the reality that merely identifying as a believer or affiliated with Christian practices does not equate to being a genuine child of God. True sonship comes through faith in Jesus Christ and acknowledging Him as Savior and Lord.
