Can Christians today cast out demons?

Answered in 1 source

Christians do not possess the authority to cast out demons as Jesus did; that was unique to Him and the apostles.

Casting out demons was a unique authority given to Jesus and the apostles as part of their ministry to demonstrate His power over the kingdom of darkness. This purpose was fulfilled during Christ's earthly ministry and confirmed the authenticity of the apostles as His representatives. After the apostolic age, there is no biblical instruction or precedent for Christians today to exercise such powers. Instead, believers are called to resist the devil and rely on the truth of the gospel as their weapon against spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:10-18). Thus, the focus of a Christian's spiritual warfare is not on chasing after demons but on proclaiming the truth of God’s Word to break the strongholds of falsehood.
