Does God control evil and suffering?

God's sovereignty encompasses His authority over all events, including evil and suffering. However, it is vital to understand that while God allows these to occur, He is not the originator of evil, as He is wholly good. Deuteronomy 32:39 affirms that God can wound and heal, and Isaiah 45:7 states, 'I form the light and create darkness; I make peace and create evil.' This does not imply that God actively performs evil but that He permits it within His sovereign plan, allowing for His ultimate purposes to be achieved. For believers, this brings comfort knowing that even through suffering, God is working for our good and His glory, as Romans 8:28 illustrates.
