How can a Christian know if their heart is broken before God?

Answered in 1 source

A broken heart is evident through genuine prayer, repentance, and a deep sense of need for God's mercy.

In Job 42, we see the marks of a broken heart manifest in Job's response to God. A broken heart pours out its soul in prayer directly to God, acknowledging its inability and need for divine grace. Prayer becomes as natural as breathing, as seen in Job's humility and sincere request for understanding. Additionally, a heart that is truly broken will confess ignorance and idolatry, realizing that human understanding falls short of God's wisdom. Finally, it is marked by a loathing of self in light of God’s holiness, prompting a sincere desire to seek mercy through Christ. As in Ezekiel 36:31, this recognition leads to self-loathing for iniquities and a cry for help from God.
