How can affliction be beneficial for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Affliction can lead Christians to deeper faith, humility, and reliance on God’s grace.

Affliction, though often painful, serves a spiritual purpose for believers, as seen through the experience of Zachariah who learned invaluable lessons during his time of muteness. He emerged from this challenge with a greater understanding of his faith and God's promises. As noted in Job 5:7, 'man is born to trouble'; thus, facing affliction is an inevitable part of the Christian journey. Yet, when faced rightly, these trials can be transformative. They humiliate us, draw us nearer to God, and teach us valuable lessons. Such 'sanctified afflictions' are indeed spiritual promotions that allow us to recognize our dependence on God’s mercy.
