How can Christians effectively mortify their sin?

Answered in 1 source

Christians can effectively mortify sin by relying on the Holy Spirit and keeping their focus on Christ.

Mortifying sin is not merely a matter of willpower or legalistic adherence to rules; rather, it involves understanding our identity in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit working within us. As Paul encourages in Hebrews 12:1-2, we are to lay aside every weight and look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. This focus on Christ enables us to resist the temptations of sin. Moreover, Romans 8:13 tells us that if we, through the Spirit, put to death the deeds of the body, we will live. Therefore, consistent prayer, meditation on Scripture, and reliance on the Spirit's empowerment are essential to overcoming sin and growing in holiness.
