How can faith be a response to God's calling?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is our response to God's initiative in calling us to Himself.

Sovereign grace teaches that faith is a response to the divine call of God on our lives. As Henry Mahan illustrates, it is God who initiates the relationship; we do not seek Him first (Romans 3:10-11). The biblical narrative demonstrates this clearly, as seen in instances where God sent specific individuals to communicate the gospel to His chosen ones, such as Peter to Cornelius and Philip to the Ethiopian eunuch. God actively seeks us, and it is through His calling that we come to believe. This aligns with 2 Corinthians 4:6, which reminds us that God is the one who commanded light to shine in our hearts, giving us the knowledge of His glory in Christ. Therefore, faith is fully dependent on God's grace and initiative.
