How can God be just and forgive sinners?

Answered in 1 source

God can be just and forgive sinners by satisfying His justice through Jesus Christ's sacrifice.

The question of how God can be both just and forgiving is central to the Christian faith. God’s justice requires that sin must be punished; however, through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who bore the penalty for our sins, God's justice is satisfied. When Christ declared 'It is finished' on the cross, He fulfilled the law's demands and took upon Himself the punishment that we deserved. This propitiation allows God to remain just while also being the justifier of those who have faith in Christ, ensuring that He does not demand two payments for the same sin.
