How can I be sure I have a new heart in Christ?

Answered in 1 source

A new heart is evidenced by a desire for repentance and to pursue a life that honors God.

The assurance of having a new heart in Christ comes from a marked change in desires and actions, as illustrated by the transformation of the Prodigal Son. When a person receives a new heart, they no longer find satisfaction in what once pleased them—the 'husk' of worldly living becomes unfulfilling. Instead, their heart yearns for communion with the Father, seeking to honor Him and live righteously. This change is not self-produced but is the result of the Holy Spirit's work within. In Philippians 2:13, we see, 'For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure,' affirming that the new heart manifests in a genuine commitment to follow Christ. As believers continuously seek God and express a brokenness over their sin, they can have confidence in the new identity they have received through Christ.
