How can I forgive someone who hasn't asked for forgiveness?

Answered in 1 source

Forgiveness can be offered freely even if the offender has not asked, as modeled by Christ.

Forgiveness does not hinge on the offender's request for forgiveness. Jesus exemplified this when He prayed for those who crucified Him, asking the Father to forgive them, still emphasizing that they knew not what they did. Just like Joseph forgave his brothers before they sought his forgiveness, we are called to extend grace and forgave freely, without waiting for others to acknowledge their wrongdoing. The essence of forgiveness lies not in the act of the offender but in the grace of the forgiver. When we choose to forgive, we align ourselves with God's gracious nature, offering forgiveness out of love rather than obligation.
