How can one discern true faith from mere profession?

Answered in 1 source

True faith produces evidence of salvation, while mere profession lacks the transformative power of grace.

Discerning true faith involves observing the fruits of the Spirit in one's life, as scripture indicates that a genuine relationship with Christ results in transformation. Many claim to be Christians, yet their lives do not reflect the character of Christ nor the evidence of the Holy Spirit's work. As noted in 1 John 2:19, those who leave the fellowship may not have truly belonged to it. Believers exhibit growth in grace, a desire for God's Word, and a commitment to worship, distinguishing them from those who only possess a mental assent to faith that does not manifest in life changes.
