How can sinners be declared righteous before God?

Answered in 1 source

Sinners are declared righteous through faith in Christ, who fulfilled the law's demands on their behalf.

Sinners are justified before God not by their works but through faith in Christ, who has accomplished perfect obedience to the law for them. Romans 5 illustrates this by stating that through Adam’s disobedience all were made sinners, but through Christ's obedience many will be made righteous. This imputation of righteousness occurs when a person is regenerated by the Holy Spirit and comes to trust wholly in the atoning work of Christ, thereby receiving His righteousness and being seen as blameless before God.
