How can someone be close to the kingdom of God but not enter it?

Answered in 1 source

Being close to the kingdom means having an understanding or acknowledgment of the truth about God, but lacking true faith and submission to Christ (Mark 12:34).

As illustrated in Mark 12:34, one can be near the kingdom of God by recognizing truth, showing respect for God's commands, and possessing an ethical understanding of Scripture without fully committing to faith in Christ. This presents a somber reality where knowledge does not equate to salvation. In the case of the scribe who conversed with Jesus, he displayed familiarity with God's Word yet did not take the final step into discipleship and belief in Christ as his Savior. Therefore, it's essential for individuals to not only know about God but to actively surrender their hearts to Him, embracing the gospel and participating in the life of faith.
