How can we be sure that God will forgive our sins?

Answered in 1 source

We can be assured of God’s forgiveness because of His righteousness and the accomplished work of Christ.

God's forgiveness is rooted in His righteous nature, which both demands justice and offers mercy through Christ. When believers come to God in faith, they rely not on their worthiness but on the righteousness of Christ, which is credited to them. In 1 John 1:9, we are promised that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. This faithfulness is anchored in the righteousness of God, who cannot go back on His word. Thus, for believers, forgiveness is a guarantee through the completed work of the Savior, leading to a restored relationship with the righteous Father.
